Title: Booking online through French website?
Post by: littlebitofpixiedust on October 16, 2015, 03:14:37 PM
Hi, the current offer on the French website is better value than UK one. Includes free kids under 12 instead if free under 7s.

Has anyone booked with their UK debit card and had any problems? Am I able to do so? Thanks in advance! It's a saving of £100 per room if we go so £200 in total as need 2 rooms so worth doing if it is possible  ;D

I read somewhere on here that you could also book through the phone and ask for a different countries offer?  I don't think I'm imagining it!  :-[

I've done this; no problems at all. You have to put in a French address but they don't actually post anything as it's all emailed. I in fact put in my UK address with UK after the town. No issues at all.

Do bear in mind most UK banks will charge you around 3% for making purchases in foreign currency unless you are with one of the better ones such as Metro Bank or have a card allowing free foreign purchases such as Halifax's Clarity card.

New to the forum, currently planning my trip for early Jan, and getting wildly different deals looking at different countries' sites.

It's worth shopping around, as not only the French website but many other European ones have different offers, depending on when you're travelling. The Dutch site has the same Winter deal as the UK at the moment, but 25% off + 1/2 Board, rather than only up to 20% off, saving me £100 on my trip. Spain has up to 2 days + nights free in January. France has up to 35% off in Feb. Belgium had 40% off at one point! And from what others have said, these EU-country offers should all be available to UK-based fans as well.

Would be good to have the different offers collated somewhere for easy comparison!

Hi there  :D considering your new your clued up on the offers by the sounds of it, Thankyou.

I havnt booked anything as of yet as already booked and paid for February 2016 but I've been playing around with the different websites and comparing offers. Not really sure why DLP has different offers for different country's? Especially if part of Europe I'd be interested to know the answer  ???

I'm going to book through the Dutch site for our Christmas break as the exchange rate is also in our favour, it brings the price down to affordable for the 'cheapie'  getaway we're doing.  Thanks for t he tips - I'm going to just fill the form in with my UK address after having read these posts!!!

:-)

Thanks! Actually bit of a DLP regular, just new to the forum!

Don't quite know either why they have so many different deals, but I imagine it helps drive up business if they have a 'new' offer on every month, and having each deal expire in a month forces you to get on with booking!

Mintcar's point about a favourable exchange rate is also very true.

The EU is investigating the practice DLP is using. So it might change in the future.

QuoteThis goes against Europe's 'single market' rules that aim to ensure all customers across the European Union can access the same deals and prices for goods and services

I've just booked on the Dutch site and followed Stifles instructions re: the address.  Worked for me and I got an instant confirmation.  Haven't had an email confirmation just yet, but I only did it 2 minutes ago!!!

With the favourable exchange rate we've also upgraded from the Santa Fe to the Newport  ;D

I guess their argument would be that technically all customers across the EU can access all these deals, even if it's not advertised as such. Equally, different markets have different needs; French daytrippers will want different deals to British families going for a week.

I booked with the French website - if the worst happens you can still sue in the English Courts (I'm a lawyer if you hadn't guessed  ;D )

Doing my research, clicking the change region at the top of the DLP homepage, I found a lot of countries, even within the EU, simply take you to the global international site. Mostly the North + Western EU countries that seem to have their own, with their own different offers.

I mean, it's not entirely surprising the Vatican State doesn't have it's own DLP site....  ;D

Stumbled upon this FAQ on the official DLP site:

QuoteQ. Can I benefit from offers available for other countries?
A. Yes, you can benefit from offers adapted for other countries. Please visit our other country websites or call our advisers at 08448 008 898.
Calls cost 5p per min from BT landline, other networks may vary.

Seems official then, and it doesn't actually state only offers from other EU countries are available.

Indeed. They just have to make the offers from other countries available – they don't need to shout from the rooftops about them.

When I was booking last year I chatted with the online support and she said it is OK to book another country's offer, add my own address in term of town, street, etc and leave the country as it is (it could not be changed). I found a better offer on the UK site! (2 nights free offer) I'm living in an Eastern European country and we have the worst offers.

I've booked through the French site several times. Just booked the NBC for next year, under 12's free and it's cost half the price of the English site. The confirmation took about five minutes to come through. Never had any problems. I was worried the first time, but everything worked out fine.

Hi, as you've recently done this can you tell me if it costs any extra using a UK bank card? I've found it's a lot cheaper also  ;D so it's worth doing aslong as I'm not charged hefty amounts ect. The overall saving vs the English website is £200 so think its worth it!

Although the English site has half board with it but we like to eat in the places the vouchers would not cover

Most UK bank cards will charge you an extra 3% or so for transactions not in your native currency. You usually still make a saving, but to squeeze out every last pound, get/use a card such as Halifax Clarity, Lloyds Bank Avios Rewards, or Metro Bank which have no charges or fees for use abroad.

Yep, we booked with Visa and were charged about £50 for the privilege of paying in Euros on the Dutch website.  However, with the 25% off, along with free half board, we still saved around £250 on the UK prices so was worth doing for us personally as it meant we could go for an hotel with half board plus options.

I only paid a small amount to my credit card for using a different currency. Not more than ten pounds. But we are saving over £300 compared to the British site.

Well it's worth doing then I don't know if similar but I used my card in the DLP mc Donald's and when I got home I was charged like £3 or something like that it's a lot quicker to use your card in there so think it was worth it

Although having HB meal plan is tempting it's an extra £100 so I don't think it's quite worth it for me as my son is very fussy and it limits where we eat plus I can't see us spending more than that on 3 nights dinner we usually have mc ds once inventions (but not this trip) planet Hollywood/king Ludwig I know those two aren't included. So think I will book the French offer  :D
