Post by: fly_with_me_dumbo on July 04, 2010, 03:21:19 PM
hi my collection is starting to grow and i was just gonna keep buying lanyards for my pins but i was jsut wondering has anyonever made their own pin bag to store them in? because they are ever so pricey :S. or does anyone store them any other ways?
and how much are lanyards in the park roughly, seen as we can get them here for £3 in the DS
any help would be good :D

I've just come back from Florida pin trading bags were $40 over there I'm not sure of the price in DLP I think they're around 50ish Euros (hopefully someone will correct that with the right info)

I would say they're worth, I picked one up in Florida I've invested a lot of time and effort in my pin collection especially the hidden mickey's I've ran all arond searching for so they deserve somewhere nice to live.

The other invention that I came up with was getting a A4 binder and using coin collecting wallets but that didn't really work out, as the pins don't really sit right in them.

I keep mine on a cork board so I can see them all the time, I only have about 120-ish pins so can easily display them on a cork board I will get a pin bag when it is needed for extra pins or for my trading pins.

I doubt I would keep pins I wanted inside a bag where I have to open up everytime I want to see them lol but I guess each to there own :)

I've been collecting pins for 10 years.  I have 5 made up cork boards, and I've ran out of space.  Pin bags are nice as you get to look at the pins in detail and appreciate them in a way that I don't tend to when they're up on a wall but its a personal thing.

I will probably invest in a pin bag before I go to DLRP as will need something to carry around my LE pins in especially if Im going to the PTN as cant have them all plonked in a tin XD

DS.com sell a pin bag or book I think small $25 and Large is $40

Does anyone know how many pins you can fit in the pin bag you can get in DLRP? I'm looking to get one in October when we go as i have 2 cork boards full now and i can't fit anymore in.

Hi All,

Have tried various ways of storing my pins but now we have around 1700 in our personal collection the only safe place to keep them is in bags.
I have around 100 ish stitch pins in one bag and still have some room left but not much. The bag weighs a ton though
Taking a pin trading bag with you to DLP is a good idea in theory but I must warn you it can get extremely weighty.
Instead I take the plastic sleeves used for trading cards/business cards and bind them with metal binding rings. Its a lot lighter and the pins fit perfectly on their backs or you can get two pins per pocket.
Our friend Stuart got us into that. He uses it when he goes to the trading nights.

Guys just a little heads up

One thing that has happened to us a couple of times when going through customs etc. A few years back we took a bag of pins to paris but the pins set of the metal detector and we had to go through a search of our luggage which took ages, and ended with us having to wait whislt they looked at every page in the bag( we think they just liked the pins)

So to speed this process up we now take our pins in a seperate bag and yes it still sets of the detectors and they want to look at the pins but at least we haven't had to wait whilst they empty our entire suitcase .

Hope this helps

I always pack my pins in a clear plastic sealed box inside my suitcase so that they're nice and seperate.  I wouldn't take them hand luggage if I was flying.  I usually put them right at the top of my suitcase so that I can get them as soon as I get out at the other side so I can quickily make up a lanyard and get trading in the parks before going back later in the day to collect our cases and and go and check in properly.

You can buy them for like £11 online :) It has another page in it and a huge clear wallet at the back which you can put plaenty of pins on a piece of card there, but im jsut using it to store my lanyards with pins on for trade. Aswell as a big storage pocket with a zip on the back and a velcro pocket at the front
great find i think :D :minnie:

i love that pin bag, i am looking for the same sort of thing, i think its best to keep the unwanted ones on the lanyard and sort out your collections in a bag :)

I find it much easier to have the pins on a corkbaord. Ive got the pin solely for trader pins so Im not fumbling through a bag of LE pins or having to stick LE pins on the lanyards.

I got an email with the image if off my partner looks so nice :)

Wow that craft bag was a really good buy, I  bought 2 of the pin trading bags like the pic Danny posted in WDW.  I feel like I was ripped off now!!! Did it come with the Mickey parts on it or did you buy them seperate?  Also where is it online I think I'd quite like to order one for myself.  (I've not organised the two I've bought yet - But I'm sure they'll fill up sooner or later)

The mickey pieces are actually pins :D they're rubber and i got them back in 1996 when I first went to Disney :D And I can fit about 100 pins I'd say in this bag. I cant find the piece of card that came with the craftbag so i cant remeber the make of it. It's around somewhere and when I find it i'll let you know :D
I'm wanting to get another one but not off the net. So I've been looking round shops that sell craft stuff, and looking at their craft bags. I did find another craft bag but instead of zips it had press studs, i'm keeping it for now as it cost £5 again, but hope to find another one of the purple bags. Boyses do the same make of the purple bag, so I'm hoping to go find one of the ones I already have there, thing is this make has been discontinued, but their still on the net. But it's worth looking at craftstores or shops that sell a few craft pieces, becasue you might find a great buy like i did  :D I think my craftbag is better then a pin bag, as it stores 100 pins and was super cheap :D and you can always decorarte it a little like I did with my pins :D

Thanks for telling me the details I'm gonig to look out for something like that, and I really like the pins that you've got on the cover of the bag.  I'm going to search for them on pinpics and add them to my 'wants' list.  I'll decorate the one that I buy when I find one with a few of my own pins thats a good idea.

I just bought the new comic strip Mickey A4 ring binder from the Disney store the other day, as I bought the A4 ring binder pin slot things (they're like A4 wallets only made of like a velvety card) in Florida.  Thought that I'd put some Mickey pins in there.  I really do need to spend a full day just organising my pins they're just everywhere and a bit of a mess.

Still can't wait to go to Paris in Oct and come back with more!

I like having my pins in this bag as its all zipped up, I would lose them out of a binder unless it was a zipped one! I'm going on the look for another pin bag today :D well craft bag :D. Those pins are so old, but they are really nice :D.
glad i could help :D this way you have more money to spend on pins and not on a pin bag :D

the craft bag is a brilliant idea :) . i've seen them in craft shops but it never occurred to me that they would work. if the disney stores in the uk did one of their own i would buy one. at the moment we have ours on felt squares in a shoe box which works quite well-at least until we get a bag.
