Title: Trip reports October 21st-26th 2007
Post by: tubbsy on October 30, 2007, 07:36:05 AM
The Tubbs mob are back. We had a wonderful time. In the park very early, left the parks very late!

Before we had even left Disney we were planning our return trip for 2008!

We'll do a trip report (somewhere) once we get confirmation where to post photos.

Glad to had a great time in DLRP Tubbsy :D

You missed that disaster of a Liverpool match in Turkey on 24th, if you didn't hear about, put it this way, we didn't play like we did in Istanbul in 2005 and now we have to win all our Champions League matches to get out of the group

We were getting messages on our mobiles.  :(  Wish we hadnt bothered.

maji-Next October half term and we're hoping to stay at the New York.  [-o<

O.K so here goes.
Day 1 Saturday morning we left good old fareham and drove up to Essex to go see the in laws. It was gerat to see them and a nice break in the journey. We then drove down and stayed at a Holiday Inn just outside Canterbury. Lovely- Put up wit Mark screaming at the rugby   Australian fourth ref and all that!

Day 2 Sunday morning-up at 6:00am down for breakfast (they serve breakfast as early as 4:30 if you want! V impressed!) Then drove down to Dover and on the 8:30 crossing to Calais. The ferry was really empty. We're thinking we'll do this crossing again next year.
Smooth drive down to Paris and then up to Sequoia. When we pulled into the car park, the place was packed. We struggled to park! Then we got into the hotel, and booked in. As we walked away from booking in Pluto came around the corner! My kids had a quick cuddle (cameras and autograph books were still in the car at this point) then we turned around and I bumped into... Eeyore! :D/  So I had a long cuddle   then we grabbed our bags, went up to our room and go our stuff together to go to the park.

Into Disneyland Park and we were met by the train-with Eeyore on again. (This was to be my week for Eeyore!) and up to Discovery land to do Star Tours. I dont know if anyone else noticed it this week, but considering it was half term and the park was also full of rugby fans the first couple of days, we didnt queue too long (30 mins) for anything apart from Peter Pan, Buzz (at times) and Crushes Coaster.

Then we went to Buzz, PeterPan (30 minutes, not bad) Dumbo and Its a Small World. Then back to Sequoia for dinner booked at 6:00.

This is one of the reasons why we're not staying at the Sequoia again. Our table was booked for 6:00 but the doors didnt open til 6:20 and this also happened in the mornings. 7:00am sitting and the doors not opening til 7:15. It really put us off eating there. You're stood in the foyer with loads of other fed up guests, not exactly Disney. And yes we I have e mailed and complained about it-dont think it will do much good tho'.

The food was great and the half board meal vouchers were easy to use (We're using them again next year) . We then wrapped the kids up nice n warm and headed back into the park.

We have never been into the park at night. All I can say is "WOW" it was beautiful. We headed up to Fantasyland and rode Dumbo and the Carousel and tea Cups in the dark and then onto Pirates. Hot chocolates and cookies on the way back to the hotel. Into bed for an early night-ready for the next day.

Thanks everyone. Just dont expect any reports about RNRC, Indiana or Space Mountain!

I forgot to mention that we also managed to catch OUADP on our first day too. Beautiful.

Day 2 GMFL. Into the park at 8:00 and up to Fantasyland for breakfast. V nice, but I can see why its being faded out. We could have eaten in the hotel, then spent the whole of EMH's going on rides, rather than making sure the kids were fed. We then rode pretty much everything that was open for EMH and were waiting by the rope to go on Pirates. Then down to BTM and Phantom Manor.....

O.K, O.K, I admit it. I screamed like the most pathetic thing on earth when riding BTM. Please remember, roller coasters are not my thing and we were in the very last carriage! So Rob (aged 5) had his hands in the air and thought it was the best thing and Mark and Steph thought it was brilliant. Dumbo is about my limit! And even then, if riding with Steph and she messes around bumping Dumbo up and down, it can be too much for me!

Lunch was booked at the Steakhouse in the village with Half Board plus. It was fantastic. We'll be going there again. It helped that we'd booked early, so that we were one of only three families in the restaurant at that time. Our waiter, Patrick, had time to spend with the kids  and the food was amazing.

We then went back to the hotel to recover for an hour or so as we were so full, we couldnt face doing rides! We then pottered back into the park and enjoyed more rides that Rob fancied and Pirates and Star Tours for Steph.

It was then a dash down to Caseys Corner for hot dogs before Mark headed back to teh room with a v coldand tired Rob and Steph and I got our pitch for Candleabration.

We were all set up and ready to film and take photos when a man walked in front of us and put his daughter on his shoulder... not a problem. We moved. The show started.... it happened again! So we moved.... and it happened again!    So we gave up! Cameras were put away and we just watched the bits we could see around people. We were really miffed cos the idea was that we would only watch it once so we could be doing rides when everyone else watched the Candleabration. I think this is my one regret of teh holiday as we stuck by our decision and didnt try to watch it again.

Anyway, grump over, we went off and rode Pirates three times as there was no queue and then Star Tours twice as there was no queue. There wsa a CM on Pirates who really was loving his job! Spooky pirate voices and terrorising the guests. Very funny. Then we headed back to the hotel, looking at the beautiful castle as we went and then down Main Street and back to our room.

You've not commented on the parade yet, and I know you were talking about seeing it more than once. When did you get around to seeing that?
Title:
Post by: tubbsy on October 31, 2007, 08:56:16 AM
We caught the parade on our first afternoon. We did plan to catch it at other times, but Rob has aspergers-a mild form of autism and he found the music from the parade too loud to bare. So unfortunately we didnt see it again. When we saw it on the first afternoon, Rob sat tucked up tight on Marks lap and with his hands over his ears, but he still didnt like it too much. We did go on to see the Disney Villain Show and Lion King, but once rob had got it into his head that OUDP was so loud, we couldnt persuade him to see it again.

Anyway, back to the parade. Where we managed to get positioned, was unfortunately in between floats so we didnt see any stops. There didnt seem to be as many characters as I've seen from other peoples photos and videos. But the parade was still fantastic to see. I hadnt mentioned to the family about the different smells, but Steph picked up on it pretty much straight away. Of course I loved Tigger and Rob actually said his favourite was Pinnochio. Amazing really!

I videoed the parade and Steph was armed with the camera. I need to sort out some of her lovely photos to put on here. I just tried n I hadnt reduced the size! Oops! What really surprised me was that Steph loves Belle and she didnt get a photo of her! (Here's Princes excuse to post a lovely piccy for Steph! LOL!)

After the parade we walked up through Fantasyland to go on Its a Small World and were met by two grown men dancing around singing "Just Like We Dreamed It!" at the top of their voices. It really made me grin. Mark just looked at me and said "So you're not the only ones who know all the words then?" LOL

Title:
Post by: tubbsy on October 31, 2007, 03:56:01 PM
Prince. Thank-you Steph will love those. Yes Mark saw Jasmine, but she was covered up!

minnielover-I have no idea which room we were in! We walked past the buffet and were in the circle room on the right there. Where were you sat? We loved it so much we're going back there next year and doing the kids birthdays. To be met by Eeyore at the door and then meet Mickey by the buffet was amazing.

smurfy. Nope, but Mark and the kids did. The kids loved it. Mark is not a fan.

Day three. Cafe Mickey for breakfast. Last year when we went for breakfast at 7:30 there were only a few families. This year it was full.

(I do wish that when people sat down at their table, there was an etiquete card explaining to parents that characters would come to the tables and not let their kids rush up and get in other peoples photos. Goofy was very good and refused to sign childrens books who came to him and went to each table to see all the kids.)

Anyway we saw Eeyore (AGAIN Yay me!) Mickey, Goofy, Chip and Dale, Pluto and Prince John. Breakfast was lovely. pastries, sausages, bacon scrambled egg. Loads of food.

Back to the room to pick up essentials and then we went round to Studios.

Into Studios by 9:30 where the queue for Crush was ridiculous, but it had to be done. Not by me tho'! I did manage to get a video clip of them in the shell as they came zipping by! Mark was not impressed by the ride, but the kids loved it!

TOT looks amazing and Steph cannot wait to go on it next year. I think Mark was getting a bit fed up with me pointing out what was happening and what was opening next year!

Cars ride next, which was brilliant. In fact, we went on everything in Studios apart from RNRC!

Robert fell in love with Animagique and we saw it twice. We did see people trying to video Animagique, but the CM's flashed torches at them!

Rendez Vous Des Stars for lunch-Where we sat and watched the parade in the warmth. Again we used the half board vouchers. V easy to use and the food was great.

Then back out into the parks for more rides and the kids got a quick cuddle in with Sully!. Then we headed out of the park and back to the hotel before going to Cafe Mickey again for tea.

Again I wish it was explained to parents the characters will come to the tables. There was actually a bit of an arguement between two families over Stitch!

The kids had their birthday cake here. It was brilliant. After we had finished our tea and waiting for ice cream, the music started and CM's and characters came around the table. Steph was especially pleased that Stitch came back to the table as he is one of her favourites, along with Belle. Oh and Rob called Hook a codfish!

Then it was a slow walk back to the hotel and a fairly early night!

Did your son go on the Crush ride?  I am taking my twin girls who will be nearly 5 and they really want to go on the ride but I was unsure if it would be too scary, what do you think?

Your trip report and photos are great, it is really enjoyable to read and reminds me of our visit there in June. :D

Great report and photos tubbsy :D

Did you use the safety deposit box at any time in  Sequoia Lodge?  If yes, how long did you wait until someone would come and put the stuff in/out of the safe?  The longest time for us was between 20-30 minutes i think it was :x  That's reason why we won't be staying there next year.

No we didnt but we found the CM's very, well, no care attitiude. In fact, when we booked out friday morning the CM was down right rude!  We have received an apology. But we're staying at New York next year.

Julie-Rob loved the ride, but Mark was not impressed as parts were so dark he couldnt see his hand, let alone check on rob. I saw 13 year olds coming off it sobbing, but rob bounced off!

minnielover. How did we miss each other? I'll post a couple of photos o me n the kids in Inventions later, see if we did see each other and didnt realise!

Day 4
Breakfast (15 minutes late opening   ) then into the parks for EMH.
Usal rides then round to Pirates for 10:00. After Pirates Steph suggested going to Critter Corale where Rob n Steph met Woody!

BTM and PM before going to Lucky Nugget for lunch. The place was packed but the atmosphere was brilliant. Mickey and Donald knicked each others bow ties and threw them across the restaurant and the brass band was brilliant. Gepetto spent loads of time with Rob. And the food was really good. I'd read some not so good reports on Lucky Nugget, but we found the selection good and really tasty. Saying that, we dont have to cater for a vegetarian. I can imagine the menu would be very limited then.

Then off to watch Lion King. Which was absolutley amazing. I cant believe we never manged to catch it before. I especially loved Pumba!

A couple of more rides before pack to the hotel for a quick rest and then down to Buffalo Bills. Brilliant show. Rob loved joining in with the shouting and Steph, who is absolutley horse mad, loved seeing the horses.
Yes, it was expensive, but well worth it.

Then a little shopping on the way back to the hotel

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

Julie-I've asked Marks opinion of Crush. He said that BTM was Dumbo comapred to Crush!

Big breath! Last day!

Poor old Mark wasnt well during the night. So we left him tucked up in bed for the day. We headed in Disneyland Park for EMH again and ran around doing our usual rides. We also managed to fit in a luckilly timed visit in with Winnie the Pooh.

Lunch time we headed into Disney Village for a quick McDonalds  and started our shopping. We then popped back to see how mark was (now sitting up, but decided, sensibly, to stay in bed as we had the long drive back the next day) The kids then dragged me back into Studios to do Animagique (AGAIN!) Cars and Tram Tours. I refused to do Crushes coaster, much to the childrens disgust and we headed over to the Disney Hotel for dinner at Inventions.

This is a priority for next year because we enjoyed it so much and poor old mark missed out. I had suggested we ate at the Hunters Grill again, but he said that it was a highlight of the holiday and we should go. :( It was amazing seeing Eeyore in the entrance and Mickey by the buffet. We had quick cuddles before taking our seats. The food, setting and view were amazing and it was great to see a couple of characters we hadnt seen before. Watching the castle as the sun set was beautiful I wish we'd been nearer a window. It was fantastic.

(//http://tubbsfamily.co.uk/DSCN3250.JPG) (//http://tubbsfamily.co.uk/DSCN3251.JPG)
(//http://tubbsfamily.co.uk/DSCN3252.JPG) (//http://tubbsfamily.co.uk/DSCN3254.JPG)

minnielover-were you sat behind us? There was a birthday just behind us and Eeyore was dancing at that table for ages lucky things :D

After dinner we went back into the park for a last look at the beautiful sight and also - at Marks insistence - to buy myself a crystal Eeyore.

We walked back to the hotel to find Mark up and about and he had done our packing and had a drink and a couple of biscuits, so things were looking good.

And thats it. We were up early on Friday morning. Had a stroppy woman book us out. Which left us with a sour taste in our mouths after such a great holiday even after Mark being ill. We then had a good jouney home, where we planned our return trip for October next year.

So only 300 and something days to go!

Great report once again Tubbsy  I hope Mark was okay - I would be so disappointed if I was ill at DLRP.

So close to another magic forum member and we didnt realise! Ah well.
I cant imagine what it must have been like with toothache. It makes your whole head hurt. I feel for you. At least Mark only missed one day and (just between you and me!) it was quite convenient he was ill cos I wouldnt have spent so much in the shops! I am joking. Poor man. Hunters Grill food was fantastic. Pastas, rice, roast, and pizza, nugget and chips for those who cant go without. Our only problem with Hunters Grill was opening 15 minutes late. Otherwise it was good.

Enjoy! :D

Nope, pizza nuggets n chips are for everyone. Yes there are desserts, but not that much. It was a nice selection of fruit and cheeses, a couple of cheese cakes, jelly, ice lollies and yogurts, but that was about it.

did you see how much of the 15th birthday stuff they were still selling while you were in the shops without mark  :P
Title:
Post by: tubbsy on November 02, 2007, 09:14:52 PM
There was absolutely loads. Cups, glasses, wine ,pens, plush, pins, wine, cookies, autograph books, autograph/photo books, photo album. In fact, I was going to do a leather photo album from Kodak, but ended up getting a faux leather photo album in brown with a small roundn shaped brass 15th Birthday celebration coin on it.

I think that there might have been a reduction in 15th birthday stuff as Christmas stuff started to appear, but there still seems to have been loads.

Mtt - they mixed up our times for breakfast when we checked in and they gave as a card which has noted in the back VIP - so that meant we could go for breakfast anytime.  It was great, we bypassed the massive queues and were treated like royalty! :P   Maybe you had the same card?!

I get the feeling from everyone on here we were just unlucky with the restaurants. Nobody else seems to have problems, so fingers crossed for you... oh and is there space in your suitcase?

mmh.. space in my suitcase.. I need to bring cheese cookies and chocolate with me.. but well... I have a rather large suitcase... so I might have some space left... but not in my bed... grinz... looking forward to see Disney again (and longer this time) in christmas mood... although it still seems so unreal to me....
and for the restaurant.. I can wait 15 minutes before I can get my food... makes me more hungry though.. but well... that would not be a problem with a buffet I think...
Are you having Disney blues already??

We're hoping to go in October next year, (got a quote n everything for when we want to go) but we are waiting to hear where Mark could be.... hopefully we'll know by the end of this month where he will be, hopefully with us. Its just a bit frustrating, putting family life on hold again. M'be I should be brave and go without him.... :-k  I would rather go with him tho'.

We could all be moving wth him-just somewhere else in the U.K or Germany. He's not due to go anywhere on his own til 2009, but the job he does... well, you never know. We are hoping to stay here for a few more years as both the kids are settled in school. I dont mind what we do, as long as I know soon and I can sort our lives out for a few more years! .... and that does mean another visit to Disney!  :D
