Title: TRON: Legacy (2010)
Post by: Anthony on July 31, 2008, 06:01:59 PM
If you've heard any of the news from Comic Con, you won't have missed that Disney's Summer 2010 (or 2011, depending who you believe) release will be...

(That's Tron 2.0, a sequel to the cult 1982 sci-fi)

At Comic Con, exclusive new test footage was shown of an updated, modern futuristic version of the famous lightcycle chase. Watch it below (poor quality, all the good ones have been caught by Disney legal), complete with the usual whoops of delight from the audience:

http://tron-2-trailer.blogspot.com/2008 ... ailer.html (http://tron-2-trailer.blogspot.com/2008/07/tron-2-bootleg-trailer.html)

Read about how John Lasseter is actually behind the revival, and that the original creator's script for the sequel looks unlikely to be used:

http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... ector.aspx (http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2008/07/31/toon-thursday-game-over-for-tron-s-first-director.aspx)

Exciting, eh? It seems every good idea at Disney is attributable to Lasseter these days...

Thanks for the links Ant, it does seem to look very good so far. Lets just hope that they make a good enough script and that they market it in the right way. And of course, a Tron 2 video game is probably almost certain isn't it

They've already done one!

And a few other games too I think. Apparently they were very popular, showing there's enough of an interest there from the original film's fans.

Seeing the new updated footage test, I think they'll win over a whole load of new moviegoers too...

according to wikipedia Lost writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are slated to write the film!!

the slated director Joseph Kosinski also has directed commercials for Gears of War, Halo 3 and Apple Computers......

all sounding good so far!

Think Disney's still gonna make a Tr2n videogame, or it will be called Tron 2: The Official Game of the Movie. It would definitly make more money since it's attatched to a movie instead of a standalone game.

*News from Empire Magazine*

Disney is pulling out all the stops to roll back the years for Jeff Bridges in Tron 2.0, after they reportedly flew him to Canada for digitization. It is nearly 27 years since the original film, and they are keen to de-age the actor for scenes that show the aged Flynn interacting with his younger self.

This clone plotline was demonstrated by preview test footage shown at 2008's Comic-Con, which had a beardy and true-age Bridges watching over his younger self racing.

The process will involve plaster casting Bridges to form a 3D model. This will then be used to form a youthful visage to be superimposed onto a body double in post production.  It's a similar process to that used in X-Men: The Last Stand on Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen to de-age them by 20 years.

Tron 2.0 co-stars Tron original Bruce Boxleitner, as well as John Hurt, Karl Urban and relative newcomers Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund. The film begins shooting in spring this year for a 2011 release.

One year on, and I'd almost forgotten this was happening. It's due to be previewed properly at this year's Comic Con:

TRON (title not final) (In Disney Digital 3D™)

TRON is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that's unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin's loyal confidant (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

The online viral campaign for Tron 2 has begun

As well as these 2 coins being sent to different online film sites, each recieved a flash pen-drive with a single different animated gif on each. Will post the gifs when I manage to track them all down

Right here goes. If you take these 4 images and overlay them on top of each other, you get the basic structure of an HTML page but with most of the text in code. I'm not going to go into the cypher, but its basically A=$, b= *£" etc.
What you end up with is a block of text and some co-ordinates. The first number is the rows down, and the second the columns. Therefore 2,4=F.

Y E A I H
O C S F T
I N V O L
L A R D M
B S H N B

2,4   3,5   1,1   5,4   3,2   4,1   1,4   3,3   1,2   5,2
F      L       Y     N      N     L      I       V     E      S

Darn tooting. If there is one film that needs a good viral internet campaign then its TR2N. Its a perfect fit of source and material.
Roll on Comic-Con on Thursday and the end of the countdown!!

P.S. I want one of those Flynn's Arcade coins, and I want it NOW !!!!!!
P.P.S. At the bottom of www.flynnlives.com (http://www.flynnlives.com) is a Terms of Use link, and at the bottom of that is a handy contact email address. Have just sent them an email asking how I can get my hands on one of those coins. Fingers crossed.

Whilst we're on "I wants", I want a "Flynn's Arcade" building somewhere in Walt Disney Studios, maybe part of some Backlot street sets, that doubles up as the entrance to a high-tech Tron dark ride of some description...

I'm sure WDI are watching this one closely for future Tomorrowland source material anyway, and hoping the movie people don't pull another Atlantis/Treasure Planet.

There's seems to be a lot of buzz that there will be a Flynn's Arcade opening very close to the Comic-Con convention centre. The coins came in envelopes with a mailing address 1/2 away from C-Con !!

But as for DLP.....yes I was a Tron themed ride. I want to be sitting at an arcade box, and suddenly have my seat flung backwards (with me attached) and into a MCP themed rollercoaster. I'm thinking RnRC, facing backwards like Indy use to be.

Oh,oh,oh. Or a Tron Disc style game where parents can take naughty children and tie them up and throw plastic discs at them

Anyway, great pictures, bad title. Sorry, but I dont like it. It reminds be of the 4th Bourne book that was written after Robert Ludlum died, strangely enough called the Bourne Legacy.

Top marks for the light cycles, things are looking good.

I am so excited about this movie, I have been a TRON nerd since the very beginning, and I used to get so excited in the Light Cycle section of the People Mover at Disneyland, and when the programmes would march as a part of the Electrical Parade - it was such an exciting time, and made me want to learn so much more about comp sci!

Well, according to http://www.cinemablend.com (http://www.cinemablend.com), the recent Tron viral campaign led to a recreaction of Flynn's arcade pretty close to the Comic Con Convention.
As well as the classic arcade machines, there was apparently a secret room which had lots of concept artwork and other stuff.
But the icing on the cake was, well, watch the video and see. Be prepared for a lot of overexcited and amazed (and down right lucky :( ) people screaming at the end

Quick update from Comic-Con:
1) I didn't get into the Disney 3D panel where Tron was shown, simply because of scheduling issues. Those issues being that Disney was scheduled before Twilight, so all the Twilight fans got to the line stupidly early.
2) Nonetheless, I managed to hit up the event that evening, get a Flynn's Arcade coin and see the lightcycle. Awesome stuff.
3) Hi-res version of the new trailer at http://www.flynnlives.com/derez/ (http://www.flynnlives.com/derez/)

Scum ! Scum,scum,scum,scum,scum.............I hate you

 :P

EDIT: Ok, just watched the trailer. Now I know its the one they showed last year, and is basically test-footage. But the only time I've seen it is a dodgy cam off of Youtube from last year convention.
Seeing it now in glorious HD..........I think I just wet myself. Yes I was over-excited about a new Tron film before, but it's just reached a whole new level. The world looks awesome (if a little washed-out of colour. Crank the Saturation up a bit please, especially the blues), the Lightcycles are awesome, the de-aging of Jeff Bridges ( the most underrated and underappreciated actor in Hollywood, Fact) looks awesome.

In summary, AWESOME !!!!!!! Have to go now and change.

Whoaaa! Seeing that in HD wrapped up in the "Walt Disney Pictures" logo is fantastic. I'm still not completely sold on the name (it fits the story, just not sure it will bring new audiences in), but the new logo is beautiful. And the Lightcycle! Everything really glistens, it feels real. Mix it with the wonderful 80s-ness of Flynn's Arcade... awesome. It's looking like a fantastic update on the original.

And yes, I'm a little jealous, didn't know you were actually going to Comic Con.

I've just watched the trailer too, and I'm very impressed by the look of this film; it's so in depth, and I imagine it'll be incredible to watch it in 3D 8)

It's also worth mentioning that this trailer is actually the footage that Disney created and used to get the project green-lit. An interesting choice for a teaser trailer isn't it

Not really, it covers all the basic element that need to be covered
The deisgn of the world, the lightcycles, the Disc, and the de-aging of Mr. Bridges. Plus the most vivid memories I have from watching the original as a kid (in the cinema, oh Yeah !!!!) was the lightcycle battle/escape, so it stands to reason that a similar scene would need to be recreated to show the Bigwigs were and how their money was gonna be spent.
And I might not be correct, but I think that a similar scene was done for the first film in order to show the bosses what they were investing in: The bit at the start where Clu is driving one of the tank programs.

I'm guessing he's a bad guy. He's a bit too old to be a sidekick to Sam Flynn, so that doesn't really leave too many possibilities. Something similar to David Warner's character in the original, except more charming and less blatently ruthless.

P.S. Still no word from flynnlives.com about an arcade token. Worst case scenario - one will come with the Blu Ray release (but I cant wait that long !!!!!!)

Actually he's already been confirmed as the villian, though not really a person they say, so might be maybe the system fighting maybe or something, can't wait for the movie, the sound of it is already awesome, let alone the movie itself :D
QuoteWalt Disney Pictures confirmed the rumors today on Twitter that Michael Sheen will have a role in director Joseph Kosinski's Tron Legacy, targeted for a November or December, 2010 release. Sheen will reportedly play the villain, who, he himself tweeted, is "in fact not a person at all."

In the 3D adventure, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. This movie poster for TRON Legacy is not an official release from Walt Disney Pictures. The poster was designed by artist James White, who has worked for such clients as Toyota, Armada Skis, VH1 Latin America and MTV. Still, I think its pretty cool, not too sure about the tagline ("It's no longer a game" sounds more menacing, but the graphics work.

I'll second that. I'd love to pull up to work in one. Hey, if they can get Audi to make that car for I Robot, surely Harley Davidson, Aprillia,Yamaha or Suzuki etc. could be persuaded into doing something similar. What great PR !!

Quote from: "MTV"Director Joseph Kosinski went on the record about a number of different elements in the film, there was a new poster and a possible leak of some of Daft Punk's score. All this with nearly a year to go before release.
Here are a few bullet points and thoughts on the info Kosinski revealed in an interview with MTV:

IMAX: Because the film was shot in digital 3D, no native IMAX footage was shot. But Kosinksi says "What I am considering doing now is finishing four or five sections of the film in a tall format — not letterbox — and in an IMAX theater, the black bars at the top and bottom of the frame will disappear and it will become a full-screen sequence."

On the character(s) played by Jeff Bridges: The actor will be both Kevin Flynn and a version of Clu, the in-computer character Flynn once created for himself. Kosinski says of the latter, ""I'd say he's Clu 2. There was a Clu in the first film who looked like Jeff but was very simple in terms of his abilities. He's very stiff. Clu 2 is a second incarnation of Kevin's avatar. He doesn't only look like Jeff, but he can think like him too. So it's a whole new level of artificial intelligence."
Finally, on the subject of Daft Punk and the score: "...the more we talked, we realized that creatively, we were totally synced up. I've been working on it with them for over a year and a half. I don't know of a movie where you're working on the soundtrack months before you start filming. The level of integration between the music and the film is incredibly strong."

And here's a link for a HQ version on the poster above

The original is a classic, but you have to bear in mind than some visuals will have aged slightly. As a kid it blew me away, now as an adult I cant wait to see the sequal. Flynn Lives !!!

Me again. Well, since we've had a blue and now the yellow lightcycle, I decided to make the trilogy complete with a Red one. It's basically the same as the yellow one, except I've airbrushed out the writing, added a reflection, and some motion blur.

Generally I don't like 3D but it really adds to this movie.

I really loved what I saw, I'll definitely go see it.
Then again, I loved the original Tron too when I saw it back in the 80ties so no surprise that I'm enthoused about this one :)

It's hard to believe Disney is making this. It looks truly huge. Of course they've done Pirates, etc, but this just looks beyond anything. I can't wait for the Daft Punk soundtrack in particular, there's a big feature on the film in this month's Empire magazine (with a very cool cover) and they seemed impressed. Synth and strings, awesome!

Nice trailer, it actually doesn't look that bad.  I've never actually saw the first Tron (keeping my eyes open for a copy though!) but I think I've got the jist of the plot, Flynn I'm guessing was the main character from the first movie yes?

Also a little off topic but what is it with 80s movies making a comeback recently?  In the past 4 or 5 years we've seen a new Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Rambo, Terminator, Predator and now Tron.  Is the late noughties/early oneies (that's what I'm calling them, the oneies) the new 80s?

I was going to point you to a copy, but it seems to have been swiftly discontinued. I'm interested to know how Disney will make this film mean something to people who don't know the original. It's a bit more high-concept than those 80s films you mention.

Anyone spot the not-very-hidden Black Hole poster in the trailer? :)

I dont think watching the original will be a problem. Even from the scarce dialogue at the beginning of the new trailer they packed in alot of background info - who, when, what etc. So I'm guessing they've planned for this. Afterall the majority of the cinema goers won't have been born when Tron first came out.

Oh, and the new trailer. Sweet :-)

Walt Disney Pictures has announced an event they are calling "Tron Night." On October 28th, Disney will be holding events in IMAX 3D theatres around the world, which will feature 20+ minutes from Tron: Legacy.

Sounds very like the whole Avatar Day stunt 20th Century Fox pulled last year. I'm guessing Disney would like something similar in box-office returns (wouldn't we all. That reminds me, must check the Euromillions !!)

Oh yeah, they're definitely hoping for Tron to be "this year's Avatar" aren't they? And I hope it is!

Has anyone got tickets for one of the Tron Night previews? I'm not sure if it's worth it just for 23 minutes, although it is still a long time before the release of the film.

Thanks Anthony for the linkage and code. I got an email in French from the annual pass team saying that the cinema in the Village is showing it on their IMAX screen which frustrated me as I am there 2 days later lol. To now know it's a Worldwide thing is awesome. I went to the London IMAX screen of the Avatar day and that was cool so I'm now uber excited about this, oh, and I've booked my tickets for the best cinema in London so all is good in my World :D

I love the attention Disney are giving this film, it's going to be such a huge release that (hopefully) it'll put Avatar to shame.

I don't think that TRON will reach Avatar's box office receipts. You are right that it doesn't need a lot to be a better movie story wise than Avatar.

Just came back from TRON NIGHT,23 minutes, and they were amazing.I  can't wait to see the friggin' full movie!
For the ones who want to know what they showed:
[spoiler:njn6uk7n]-Text intro by Joseph Kosinski, saying the scenes set in reality are in 2D, and the TRON world scenes in 3D. Both can be watched with glasses on as it was designed to do so.

-Sam's House. Sam has a conversation with Alan, saying some stuff about his dad's company and stuff. And tells him about the page he got from his father, then he hands him the keys to Flynn's arcade.
-Flynn's Arcade. Sam arrives with his motorcycle and walks in. He looks around and turns on the power. All the games and lights turn on, aswell as the speakers that start playing Journey(don't know which song from them, but it was Journey i think, followed by Sweat Dreams Are Made of These by Eurithmics later on. Sam sees the TRON machine and walks towards it. He sees some gameplay on screen and decides to put a quarter in the machine. The quarter falls to the ground and when he picks it up he sees a few marks on the floor. He moves the machine from it's place and discovers a hidden door. He steps through it and as he closes the door the machine returns to it's original position. Downstairs he finds Flynn's old office and an old computer. He sits down and types some commands and manages to log in and enters a few command prompts. The computer states it's readying laser control and Sam assumes everything is fine. As he enters the final prompt and presses yes the laser is seen rising behind him and the screen fades to black.

-Sam being captured by the recognizer, guards drag him onto it and capture him along with other programs. As they fly Sam asks the others what's going on and doesn't get much response. The recognizer arrives at what i guess is either command or an arena and the programs and Sam without recognizer disks are either chosen for repair or sent to the games. Sam and one other are chosen for the games, the other runs off an edge screaming delete me and is de-rezzed. After this we see sirens readying Sam for the disc wars by giving him his suit, which is basically a main base and then plates of armor around it. It looked quite fantastic now i've seen them in more detail. Sam is brought up for his first game but doesn't immediately understand what to do and barely wins from the other captured program.

-Escape from the lightcycle grid. Quorra saves Sam from the lightcycle grid with the lightcar(don't know the real name. And exits the grid, the other programs can't follow her because the lightcycles can't function off the grid. Quorra reveals her identity during the ride to her safehouse and tells Sam that all his questions will be answered soon. He and Quorra enter the safehouse and as they walk in we see Kevin Flynn siting on the floor, Quorra walks towards him and tells they have a visitor, he tells her that he dreamt of TRON again for the first time in a long while. He refers to her as his apprentice and turns around after a small talk amazed that he is seeing his son after all these years, they have a small talk and Flynn tells him that they will talk later on, and walks out of the room looking towards the main grid.(Presumably feeling something big is going to happen soon.

-The finally starts with the Daft Punk cameo and then shows a montage of footage(not the same as the music video, and showing old and new footage.[/spoiler:njn6uk7n]
Sorry if it's not entirely clear, did my best had to write quickly.

What I found weird is that we in Belgium didn't see the intro from Joseph, it just started. Oh, and the scenes from the real world were also 3D like you said, but we couldn't watch those scenes without glasses, as the subtitles were 'coming out of the screen' so when you watched without glasses, it was a mish mash of lettres.

I received my copy of TRON Betrayal yesterday, very cool Graphic Novel. The Prologue is Dumont telling the story of Tron. The main story is about the time period between TRON and TRON Legacy (the rise of CLU, the death of Flynn's wife etc.), and the epilogue is an into to TRON Legacy. Although exhausted after working 14 hours, driving 170 miles and haveing a blow out to change the wheel on the motorway at 0 degree temps, I had to read it last night.

Just received Another parcel from Arcade Aid. This time is was a giant poster of the competition image. I had to stand on a chair so that I could get it all in one Photo. Also came with a note saying I was the 233rd person to finish the game . Only 999 of us got this poster. Sweet. This really would have been the highlight of my week, but the university student fund just gave me a big fat check.

The London premiere will be on Sunday. You can watch it online at the UK & Ireland Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/TronUK.IRE?v=ap ... 3270223206 (http://www.facebook.com/TronUK.IRE?v=app_164823270223206%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Here's a review of the soundtrack, out next week: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/de ... acy-review (http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/dec/02/daft-punk-tron-legacy-review%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

And the Hollywood Reporter suggests the film will open below expectations: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/t ... arly-54937 (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tron-legacy-tourist-weak-early-54937%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;) http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wir ... d=12281839 (http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=12281839%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

QuoteThe 3D film has been marketed heavily for months en route to its December 17 release. But at this point, tracking suggests "Tron: Legacy" could earn as little as $35 million during its first three days.

An opening well north of $50 million would seem necessary to put the $200 million picture on a path to profitability.

An executive at a rival studio said it would be wrong to sell "Tron: Legacy" short just yet. Tracking surveys are not always on the money, as Disney happily found out this past weekend. Its new cartoon "Tangled" earned $69 million during its first five days, up from forecasts of a $40 million start.

I really hope that is not going to happen and that Tron Legacy is going to make more money than Avatar. Although I doubt it, but Avatar shoudln't be the most successful movie.

Ok, well I managed to get into a very special screening of the film on Saturday in London. The day before the UK Premiere. It was introduced by the director and I don't think I've been so excited in a film screening before.

The film is fantastic, the soundtrack is superb, the visuals are just gorgeous and the acting is top notch.  For me, it was so worth the epic wait. I'm definitely going to be seeing it a few more times once it's actually released. :D

Well after 18 months since it was first announced at Comic Con, Tron Legacy is nearly upon us. Now I may have gotten caught up in the hype but I don't care, as I'm not getting carried away with my expectations for the film. I'm hoping it will be good, but I'm not expecting Oscar worthy dialogue (at least better than Avatar would be a good benchmark).

So I was wondering what everyone else is expecting, assuming you are going to watch it. What I expect from Legacy is:

1) Average Big Blockbuster style script - nothing too taxing on  brain power
2) Awesome special effects and big set-pieces i.e. disc fights
3) Dodgy looking CLU CGI
4) Parts where clunky dialogue takes centre stage in order to forward to plot
5) Some touching father-son moments
6) Daft Punk !!!
7) Jeff !!!

I have never seen the first Tron movie, but I will definately see Tron Legacy. I just expect a blockbuster with amazing 3D effects and I just hope that it will be better than Avatar. I had high expectations of Avatar and then I was so disappointed. Hopefully this will not happen with Tron and so I try not to expect anything from it. I don't know why I compare these two movies, maybe because of the 3D effects.

So has anyone here seen Tron Legacy in 3D yet? I definitely want to see the film, but I'm interested to know, is it worth seeing in 3D or 2D? Does the 3D add anything to the film? Does the 3D have a lot of depth, or is it a very flat looking 3D effect (like Toy Story 1 was)?
Title: Re: TRON: Legacy (2010)

I saw the film last week as I had tickets from Sky.I would recommend you watch it in 3D.The first 20 minutes or so are in 2D but when Sam goes into the computer it changes to 3D. I would say the 3D Effect is very subtle and does not have too much of the 'things coming out at you ' all the time. It just enhances your viewing.I preferred this 3D to others I have watched.I don't really know what you mean by 'flat looking' but there is so much action taking place and the soundtrack works so well with that action that I found I was totally immersed in the film and was sat on the edge of my seat throughout the film.
I loved the original but haven't seen it for a long time.I missed it on Sky Movies so I may watch it on Sky Player. You do not need to have seen the original to follow this one though.
I loved the Soundtrack so much I downloaded it from Amazon onto my iPhone.

I just got back from the 11:30 am showing. It took 2.5 hours to get home (30 mile journey) thanks to the blizzard, but it was still worth it.

There were about 30 people in the theatre, which surprised me, but it was prime Christmas shopping time. My fujitsu friend, Mikey (7.5 years old, a year younger than I was when I saw the original) and I LOVED it. It was so awesome.

the Wizard of Oz pastiche, the design, the philosophy, the 80's and Star Wars references, I LOVED it all. I have not been this stoked about a Disney film since perhaps Tarzan. I loved it and cannot wait to see it again. It even made me shed a little tear.

Two thumbs way up, but I am sure it will be a love it or hate it film with very little in between. And it was great to see how Disney can still do masculine, even if it is rare these days. Also loved the look of the Narnia trailer and Gullivers Travels. PotC looks ok.

But the real wooooaaa for us was the Disney TRON castle in 3D, beautiful.

and Alan, it is totally worth the 3D for the light cycle and flight sequences - awesome!

Glad to hear some good reviews coming in about the new TRON.  I'm hoping to see it sometime during the week in 3D (weather, homework and christmas shopping permitting of course!), the idea of the real world being in 2D and the "TRON world" in 3D interests me, did they pull it off well?  I've never saw the original TRON, although I do know the basics of the plot so in theory I shouldn't be kept too much in the dark.

Oh and Daft Punk doing the soundtrack, that's why I'm most looking forward to 8)

I think they pulled it off very well. Though they warn you at the beginning...lol

Some of my love of this movie might be the fact I was obsessed with the original!

Would you believe me if I said I hadn't seen it yet. No babysitter :-(
Having read a lot of mixed reviews plus the whole 18months of hype I've been trying to be pessimestic about how good Tron will be. 'Dont get your hope up' kinds thing. But having read how much you enjoyed it davewasbaloo I'm biting my fingernails again and looking even harder for that elusive babysitter. Where are the grandparents when you need them ?

Lol my friend, I know what you mean. I was given a special pass to go from the Mrs (though it helps my son is a TRON fan and wanted to see it). I hope I haven't hyped it too much, but I tried to lower my expectations and I loved it.

I know what you mean about the baby sitter, we are lucky to go to 1 film a year. Look forward to your view once you get to see it.

Just back from Tron Legacy and I'm a very happy boy, I mean man, errrr.......
The style is amazing, really loved all the design aspects. I lost count the amount of times I said 'nice' out loud (the loudest when a security guard got shot leaving a massive whole in the centre of his head) .Daft Punk's score is Oscar Worthy without a shadow of a doubt.
But I can see why it has gotten such negative reviews. All the action is crammed into the first 45mins. After Sam meets Kevin 'The Dude' Flynn it all slows down and becomes more a of Zen-creationist-meaning of life kinda vibe. It was around this point my wife lost interest. But the power of nostalgia kept me going right up to the end. And there might have been a little tear in my eye when Sam lifted up his disc into the portal at the end, very Tron 1.0.

All in all, not as good as I'd hoped for (never gonna be that good) but better than expected. Better story wise and dialogue wise than Avatar. Then again, sometimes with films I enjoy the ride more than the destination and this film definitely fell into that category.

With all that said, I'll give it 7.8/10.

P.S. Loved the Tron-Disney-Castle !!

NICE!!!! That said, I love the Jedi story more than the action as an adult in the Star Wars trilogy, hence enjoying this movie more than the original. I can understand why some are not keen, but I love it, and cannot wait to see it again.

Just got back from seeing it in IMAX 3D. Wow, loved every second of it. Im with Davewasbaloo, the mythogy and "jedi" overlay worked so well. Ive been listening to the soundtrack no stop in the car for the last few weeks, so got goosebumps as soon as it started.

Ive made excuses to have to go back to see it in IMAX before I head back to work on the 4th, and hope that it was sucessfull enough to warrent the trilogy as originally planned. Did you see the cameo of Cillian Murphy in the Emcon board room, surely that leads to a different plot in a sequel?

Only thing I would say, is what made The Matrix so special was the Matrix itself, so part one for me was great, no so good when they went to Zion. In the same way if they do make a sequel, keep it on the grid, that was jaw dropping ....

Went to see this last night at the late showing.  Only saw it in 2D mind because me and my cousin didn't feel like coughing up an extra £4 on top of the £6.30 (seriously, £6.30, my cousin is home from Uni in Newcastle for Christmas and he was telling me that it's only £2.90 over there for a film, that's 2 films for the price of one here!)

A lot better than I expected.  The story wasn't incredible stuff but still pretty enjoyable, as someone whose never saw the original TRON I loved the whole concept of the Grid.  The special effects and CGI were stunning, I even thought CLU wasn't that bad - I mean there were one or two times I could tell it was fake (namely the end) but for the most part it was still decent.  The action was great too, but like others have said after about 45 minutes it was as if the movie just waved its hands, went "ta daa!" and gave up.  Oh and who can forget the Daft Punk soundtrack, I plan to put one of them songs from it as my ringtone  8)

One query I have though about the end, I'm hoping one of the TRON-boffins among us can help me out.
[spoiler:280nou09]How did Kevin Flynn manage to go all Jedi on us at the end as he grabbed CLU back thus saving Sam?  Also did he destroy all traces of the Grid in the process?  I thought that would have put the nail in the coffin for a sequel but I'm probably wrong, being as the fate of TRON and some other dude making a cameo hints towards future projects. :-k[/spoiler:280nou09]

So overall a good movie, worth seeing purely for the action and effects (and the music!) but I can't comment on the 3D, doesn't bother me though because as things are going 3D will be dead and gone in five years time.  Will be picking this up on Blu-ray once it hits stores!

[spoiler:1thq5uh5]He is the creator, the God of the Grid. But even more simply he is a User. If you watch the original Tron, there is a scene where Flynn stumbles across a destroyed Recogniser( the big flying things that picks Sam up at the beginning ). The thing is lying in pieces like giant lego blocks. Flynn discovers that he can rebuild and hold the Recogniser together by holding out his hands ala The Force[/spoiler:1thq5uh5]

TRON: Legacy. Amazing film, I thought. However, I am now certain that 3-D is a gimmick and doesn't really add much to the experience. Having seen TRON: Legacy in 3-D, I know I would've enjoyed it even more in 2-D. Unfortunately, it's actually quite hard to find anywhere showing it in 2-D.

With Tron Legacy reaching $150m in the states and roughly about the same worldwide, the money from merchandise plus the added cash from DVD and Bluray receipts, it's being reported that Tron may be getting close to Disney's benchmark for a sequel. Aintitcool.com says

QuoteAs kids around the country pulled out wall crawling light trail leaving Tron LIGHT CYCLES from under their Christmas trees, Disney has been counting the receipts – and I'm told...  it's about to hit the tipping point. Now the real question is...  Where does TRON go from here?  There is a plan, but it is being closely guarded.

Fingers croseed !

My understanding from a friend at WD PIctures is that the film cost $300m for production and marketing. They are very disappointed with the box office performance. My understanding is $500m is the threshold in which they were considering a sequel and WDI attractions in the parks.

It will be interesting to see how they do with DVD/Blueray releases.
Title: Re: TRON: Legacy (2010)
Post by: penfold12 on January 14, 2011, 01:48:20 PM
I have a friend that works for WD Pictures UK, and they put a slightly different spin on the performance Dave.

They put the marketing at $100, meaning $250 for marketing and production. They said that the box office had been strong and steady but not stellar. The likened it to Batman Begins, in the way that it was potentially a niche market that hadn't fully transferred over to the Star Wars league that they had hoped, but was a strong reason to think that if a sequel was produced it would build on the foundation set up by Legacy. Not that they were expecting Dark Knight level of returns if a sequel was produced, but that they would hope to see a strong uplift in box office results from a sequel.

They also pointed out that there is a certain sector of Disney produced movies that are more than their box office results. LIfe on DVD/Blu Ray can be stronger than average follow on, but also merchandise. Apparently merchandise sales have been strong, and in addition ElecTRONica at DCA has been extended through April now on the back of its popularity and more importantly merchandise sales.

Whilst, im not sure how much of my friends comments are tainted with fanboy longing for another film, the comments sort of make sense. I could see the logic in a second movie, the TV series is apparently still on the cards. In addition, as the majority of the actors were not huge names, and could of been signed to multi film deals without breaking the bank, there is an argument to say that the production cost on a sequel could be kept in line or reduced as the grid is already designed and fleshed out to a point. The same apparently applies to the Avatar sequels.

Looking on box office mojo, they predict that the films final gross will be in the region of $350 to $400 million, which would be significantly under the $500 quoted by you Dave.

Its a strange one if im honest, as I loved the film, loved the soundtrack, but more importantly I responded well to the marketing. I thought that marketing was extremely well done, and for me made it a must see film. However my nephew, a 12 yr old boy, wasn't struck on the film from the trailers, and said he would prefer to go see the latest Narnia film!!! How ever, after seeing Tron in IMAX, he hasn't stopped raving about it, has gone mad for the merchandise and would love it to move into a franchise. I asked why it didn't appeal to him in the first place, and he said it looked dark and depressing (not his words, but the meaning).

Something didn't connect based on returns, but I thought the marketing was really strong. I personally really hope we get to go back to the grid again

My longing isn't tainted. I went down to B&Q and got a 10 litre tin of Electric Tron Blue Dulux One Coat Matt Emulsion and painted my longing for another film. Then gave it a second coat (even though the tin said one coat was enough).  8)

Worldwide gross is today at $325,697,550. If all that Disney is waiting on is bluray sales, then I'm pre-ordering a.s.a.p. !!

Story wise there were little pieces that I picked up the second time I watched it that I had missed the first time. Id go as far as saying that the story is actually great haha!

I now just cant wait to watch the film in shiny Blu Ray HD in April.

Surely the box office is now enough to greenlight a sequel......

Quote from: "slashFilm"For the last few weeks there has been a persistent rumor going around that the Tron Legacy DVD and Blu-ray release would feature a teaser for Tron 3. We haven't run much because we couldn't confirm it 100%, but someone else got some pretty detailed information that suggests the rumor was true. The info, which is obviously spoilerish if you don't want to know anything at all, is after the break.
AICN got the scoop from someone reportedly on set for the shoot. He says there will be at least three scenes. One has Bruce Boxleitner playing Alan and Dan Shor playing Ram. Another scene shows Olivia Wilde as Quorra arriving at the ENCOM building, where she is mobbed by press as she claims to have just spoken to Kevin Flynn. Finally there were tests shot for some interaction between Ed Dillinger (played by David Warner in Tron) and his son (played by Cillian Murphy in a Tron Legacy cameo) "stating that everything is going as planned." Harry said this "involved text screens," so we may not see the actors, or even hear them.

But it's that last bit that got me interested. Tron Legacy did a pretty good job of shutting down any interest I had in the series, but I know there are many who don't feel the same way. And if there is a third film and David Warner is involved, especially with he and Cillian Murphy plotting some villainy, I'll have to pay attention.

An April 11 release is reportedly scheduled for the UK version of Tron Legacy on DVD and Blu-ray, and there is no confirmed US release at this point. We'll report more when info becomes available.

So does this mean Tron 3 is really happening? As Harry says in his piece, this stuff was shot last year before Tron Legacy was released — it's not something done in the wake of the film's reception. That's important.

Good to hear!!  I don't know if it was just me, but their seem to be more detailed plot nuances the second time I watched it, things I missed the first time around.

And from what the articles floating around are saying about storyline for a Tron 3 should it get lit, then the story and back stories, appear to be getting stronger and stronger!

Well I didn't notice the subtleties between JEM and the bald guy before, and lots of other little things. It was soooo much fun.

But my sources are telling me not to hold our breathes for a TRON3. Iger would like TRON to become a new franchise, but it has not recouped expenses in the US market and the merchandise is not selling well (not that we have much in the UK to choose). They will see how the DVD/Blueray release does.

Davewasbaloo, Petes Dragon, between us we seem not only to be keeping this thread going, but the Tron franchise in the UK! The Steel Book blurry has also been announced, and the makIng of book is released in June.

I was driving around all day Tuesday with the soundtrack up high. It's amazing how when it's dark on the motorway you can drift away to imagining your onthe grid. Wow I need help!

Anyway as a result we ended up gong to see the film for the third time on IMAX yesterday before it goes.... It's been years since I have seen te same film multiple times at the cinema

It was great! I know im in danger of loosing any credibility that im clinging onto here, but I just seemed to get better and better.

As a child, I remember having an audio copy of Star Wars (showing my ages videos & DVD's weren't about to buy for home use then!!), so I knew every work of the script and how it was said. I still do to this day when the films are shown. That connection with a film I don't seem to get any longer....

Well I started to get that feeling with Tron this time round haha! Added to that the gorgeous visuals in IMAX 3d, but most importantly, the soundtrack that you could literally feel vibrating through the floor and chairs, made me feel like a kid again. I was sat there beaming from ear to ear humming along in my head, wanting to duck and sway from side to side as if I was in a light cycle at times. Infact, just like when I have been on Star Tours!

I may be over selling it a little for some, but for me, this really is what a great pop corn movie should be about!

Sounds like we are kindred spirits (I remember playing the whole of the Star Wars movies out with the action figures). Though I am lucky, we had our first VHS in 1979 with a copy of Star Wars!

But agreed, the first time we saw it, my friend Mark and I said it was the first film leaving us like we felt the first time we saw Star Wars!

love it!  But yes, I fear I have oversold it too. And the "flaws" people see in it are actually some of the things I love about it:

These days, movies and TV are too real for my liking. I don't watch people's lives on reality tv, I live my own life. When I see films, I want to escape the everyday world (seems not as popular anymore). I don't want my films to be too prescriptive. I also like happy endings, which many films fail to give.

this one did (all bar a few things on the grid of course). But I do love it!
Title: Re: TRON: Legacy (2010)

100% agree! Its the escapism that I love, and there are so many "cool" moments in this film that are fleeting, but make up the whole feel for the world and tone of film.

A few people have criticised  the Star Wars homage aspects with the gun turrets etc, but for me "boys with toys" feel wins out! The mythos created through hinting at a much larger back story and the Isos is what I love.

As for how this lives on, ive always been an advocate that in the parks, the best attractions were original immersive stories. "Ride the Movies" was the tag line for Universal back in the day, and thats what separated Disney from them. Universal for film tie ins, Disney for new immersive worlds. Thats got lost along the way with the excuse that slapping a character/film overlay on an off the shelf ride system with suffice, and sell more merchandise.

However..... Tron is one film tie in that I would love to see in the parks. Done well, with the right budget, it could be as groundbreaking as Star Tour or Indy in Disneyland. HIgh speed, dark lit but drenched in neon, with that soundtrack reverberating loudly.....

Oh ya, we are totally on the same page with all of that. I remember as a kid, when the original TRON came out, the People Mover was given an upgrade where we entered the Grid and raced along light cycles (though we kept going slow, the optical illusion made it seem fast). also the Main Street Electrical Parade included programs.

I think my biggest bug bear, especially at DLP, is it seems Disney = toons. People seem to forget that is only a small part of what the company is/was about. The addition of RC on the Tram Tour for example is aweful IMHO.

Yesterday we finally saw "Tron: Legacy" and it was great. I really liked it and hopefully Disney will do another one. The 3D effects were great, in my opinion even better than in Avatar, but the story wasn't good. Sometimes I wonder if there was even a story, nevertheless I loved it. And thanks to Daft Punk, the soundtrack is amazing. Usually I don't like that kind of music so much, but here it fits very well.

Can someone tell me why Kevin Flynn had these super powers to defeat CLU at the end?
Title: Re: TRON: Legacy (2010)
Post by: davewasbaloo on February 10, 2011, 09:18:16 AM
Glad you liked it. As for how he defeated CLU? Well he created the system and CLU, and in some ways, he is like a god -after all, how did he create his home, or the roast pig on the table when he has dinner with Sam and Quorra? And if quorra is a program, why is she eating? Or as an Iso, does that make her more human than program? And how is it a program can live outside of the grid? If she gets hurt will she bleed or derez? And can they fix her, or is she human now?

I like to just sit back and enjoy, it was a great story. And the best stroies in my opinion are the ones that have fun with ideas and are not that real.

Good to know that there are more people who wonder about certain things. I thought maybe I should have seen the first Tron before Tron Legacy.
Maybe I'm going to watch it again.

Electronica has been extended at Disneyland and now runs throughout the summer. Let's hope this is a sign of Disneys feelings toward the film and sequel possibility.

the event is popular at DCA. Sadly, they have yet to make the cost of the movie and marketting, it is still at a loss. I am not holding my breathe sadly. A third movie is less likely to generate more crowds at the box office. Tangled has made nearly double of Tron and Alice in Wonderland has made nearly 4 times as much (they were planning on TRON to outperform Alice).

As much as I love this movie, and would love to see some park action based on it, I don't think it is going to happen sadly.

Yes, the US box office has peaked, and will not increase much now, the world wide box office is still rising by the millions this weekend, with an additional 10 million to take it to 212 overseas, 381 world wide. Its scary when you think that a film that cost 170 million, still struggles to break even on 381 world wide box office.

If im right, a real broad approach calculation is that a film as an average uses half its production cost again in marketing, and that exhibitors then take 50% of box office, with it on a sliding scale the longer it is shown, meaning the studio has to cover marketing, production and exhibitors cost before they begin to see a profit. It makes you realise why merchandising is so important these days.

Also makes you wonder how a film such as Tangled, with a reported budget of 240 million can be deemed a success to the degree it is

Well the music (!!!), colours and style of TRON where spot on and fantastic!
The 3d effects i didn't think where the best around and didn't add much tot the movie.
Also the dialogs were a little bit simple imho.

I personally would love to see a another TRON related movie, but with better 3d effects please and
a better storyline and dialog pls!
And well.....Olivia Wilde in it again plsssss   [-o<

Really looking forward to that new album.

Just wondering now - will Tron ("The Original Classic") be released on blu-ray separately, or do we have to buy this double pack to get it? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tron-Legacy-Blu ... 004IEBRSI/ (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tron-Legacy-Blu-ray-Michael-Sheen/dp/B004IEBRSI/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)  I've already pre-ordered the 3D blu-ray just for the sake of it (don't even have a 3DTV), so it'll be a bit annoying if we have to choose between "future proof" 3D or owning the original. They eventually put Fantasia 2000 out as an individual release, so hopefully they'll do the same here (there's surely more market for Tron now).

I notice in the US they're getting this perfect set: http://www.amazon.com/Tron-Original-Cla ... B004K4N64E (http://www.amazon.com/Tron-Original-Classic-Five-Disc-Blu-ray/dp/B004K4N64E%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Back again to my favourite topic :-)

Last year, before Tron Legacy was released, Disney shot some footage that didn't appear in the film, but will show up on the DVD release in April. Some of that footage became Tron: The Next Day .............

[youtube:3ac6at1z]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaodH483Ako&feature=player_embedded[/youtube:3ac6at1z]

....... sequel? Why include the last part if it isn't going to be a reality? Nice to see Dan Shor getting a little cameo

The footage is believed to possibly connect Legacy and the third movie, basicly leading the plot. It's not a teaser, but it can lead to a third movie, which at the moment is still highly possible.

It has references to the first film(such as Ram's user etc.) but it takes place after Legacy, it can be considered as both a bridge to the first film and a sequel.

Got my Tron: Reconfigured CD today.....

Not bad, takes the great originals and makes them more stand alone tunes, rather than a soundtrack. Some are brilliant, other just a little "meh"!

One thing it did do, driving in the car with it on full blast, was make me want to listen to the original soundtrack again, then realise, what is good is the length of the tunes. The only issue with the original soundtrack is the majority of the tunes are 2 minutes long....

From Deadline

QuoteTron: Legacy managed to play in theaters long enough to establish Joseph Kosinski as the highest-grossing first-time director of a live-action film in Hollywood history. The film's $399 million global gross recently eclipsed the $397.5 million gross that JJ Abrams turned in on 2006's Mission: Impossible 3.

Now, such a distinction is relative. Tron: Legacy cost between $165 million and $170 million to make and a comparable amount to market. Sam Mendes made his debut on the $15 million American Beauty, which grossed $356 million worldwide in 1999. Jan De Bont's debut on the $30 million Speed turned in a $350 million worldwide gross in 1994. Ticket prices were lower when American Beauty and Speed were released, and Tron: Legacy had the extra benefit of higher 3D pricing. American Beauty and Speed were extravagantly profitable. Disney will make some money on Tron: Legacy, but they won't need to back up the Brink's truck.

But Tron: Legacy's performance certainly gives the studio reason to think it has poured the foundation for a franchise. Disney has begun work on a sequel, which Kosinski is constructing with original writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Maybe because of Tron: Legacy's pricey launch and heightened expectations, I had the impression that the film had been a bit underwhelming, despite a $44 million opening weekend. But looks are deceiving. For one thing, despite the film's big budget, Tron: Legacy had the benefit of zero first-dollar box office gross participants. Another pic that opened around the same time, Little Fockers, was teeming with them.

Should Kosinski's crown buy a Tron: Legacy encore? Its performance certainly compares well to other 2D films that launched franchises. Tron: Legacy out-grossed the Chris Nolan-directed Batman Begins ($373 million) and the Abrams-directed Star Trek ($386 million), both of which were based on brands far more famous than the long-forgotten 1982 original Tron. For that matter, Tron: Legacy out-grossed The Bourne Identity ($214 million) and its sequel The Bourne Supremacy ($288 million). It also bested X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($373 million), National Treasure ($347 million) and The Fast and the Furious ($207 million). It out-grossed all the films in that franchise. Beyond that, the film fed other Disney divisions. The Tron: Legacy soundtrack sold 615,000 copies worldwide, and the movie spawned ElecTRONica, a featured attraction at Disney's California Adventure theme park. A Tron: Legacy rollercoaster for the new Shanghai theme park is under discussion.

Now, just because a studio makes it out alive after a big bet on a film doesn't mean it's franchise city. Said one vet: "Sometimes, you say, 'We got away with one,' and move on. From Terminator to Bourne, you can usually tell if the audience wants more."  Based on the Tron: Legacy gross and high DVD pre-sales, Disney will go for two. And Kosinski seeded the original with plot points that lend to a sequel.

When Kosinski gets to Tron: Legacy 2 is another matter. He has other projects that include a remake of Black Hole at Disney, with a script being written by Travis Beacham, writer of Guillermo del Toro's next film, Pacific Rim. Kosinski is most likely to next direct Oblivion, a film that has Tom Cruise interested. Disney gave that picture back to Kosinski recently, because its post-apocalyptic vision didn't fit the Disney family film mold, and attempts to make it PG was strangling Kosinski's vision. Kosinski's reps at Verve and Anonymous Content are shopping it, and I've heard Universal is among three suitors giving it serious consideration.

I am not sure how long Kosinski's first-time director milestone will last. Hollywood has become bolder about giving mega-budget features to first-timers. Carl Rinsch is directing Keanu Reeves in 47 Ronin at a reported $175 million budget, and Rupert Sanders is directing Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and a Huntsman to be named later after Viggo Mortensen withdrew. Either could topple Kosinski from his perch.

Also from Empire interview

QuoteLegacy played really well to people in their twenties and thirties, but it actually didn't bring in kids. So we hope Uprising will bring a new generation of fans in the same way that Clone Wars has brought a new generation to Star Wars.

In other words, Disney was counting on Tron Legacy to be a mad merchandising hit — see all the toys and other licensed stuff that was produced — and those dollars may not have materialized yet. The home video release could help, as families that didn't want to fork out for high 3D ticket prices might see the movie now, leading to kids wanting Tron stuff. If the younger generation can be brought on board, then you can bet a third film will happen quickly.

That article explains it really well and rationally. When you put it in context with the box office of other first franchise films, it looks pretty good.

I seem to be reading quite a bit about slow burning work on a sequel lately, so here's hoping!!

Part of an exclusive interview with Joseph Kosinski  by AssignmentX.com

Quote from: "AssignmentX"While chatting with TRON: LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski today regarding the TRON: LEGACY DVD and Blu-ray release arriving this Tuesday, April 5, the director spoke to ASSIGNMENT X about the status of the next sequel TRON 3 (aka TR3N).

"We're working on the story right now," Kosinski tells AX. "Once we get a script we're all really happy with, we'll take it to the powers that be and see if we can go back to the grid."

As for the storyline, Kosinski says the film will continue the adventures of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund)

"I think we will pick with where TRON: LEGACY left off with Quorra [Olivia Wilde]  in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It's that relationship between the two of them that's the next step."

Also, the son of Dillinger (who makes a brief appearance in the beginning of TRON: LEGACYand played by an uncredited Cillian Murphy) could potentially play a bigger role too.

"Dillinger [David Warner] was a really important part of the first film and felt like an easy way to continue that storyline and thread to have his son in the new movie, " says Kosinski. " That way you have people ask those questions of what the Dillinger legacy is in the world of TRON. We didn't want to ignore it completely and it leaves a really nice springboard for some intertwining development for the next film."

As for coming aboard officially as a director for TRON 3, Kosinski says he's game, but it all comes down to what project happens first for the director (he currently is scheduled to direct the Disney reboot of THE BLACK HOLE and OBLIVION which is currently shopping for a new studio).

"That's my intent," says Kosinski. "We're developing it now. It's all about getting a script and story and making sure we can get the same team back together."

One feature I thought was fantastic with the blu-ray : during the big action scenes, the screen changes from 16:9 to full-screen i.e. the black bars at the top and bottom disappear - and you're treated to as much of the Imax print as possible.

Nice. I now have to wrestle the TV back off the kids so I can try 9 codes I have for hidden easter eggs features

It's amazing! Contains, comic book, CD, Tron and Tron: Legacy on Blu-ray and some picture cards (Including one of Ms Wilde on the couch  ;) )

It was number 800 and something out of 1000. :D

Despite the boxsets epicness I'm still disappointed at the lack of extras on the Legacy blu-ray disc. Three featurettes that were basically longer versions of what they used to market the film and not a lot else apart from the short film mentioned earlier in the topic, I expected a lot more, especially with the US getting a 2 disc blu-ray edition, rather let down. :(

QuoteTron Dominates as Blu-ray Sets New Market Share Record

Blu-ray has set a new record for market share in any given week by accounting for a quarter of all packaged media sales according to Home Media Research. The top selling Blu- ray was Tron: Legacy which managed to garner a massive 68% of sales on the format outselling the DVD at a 2:1 ratio. The sales of the 3D version are rolled into the title, but no sales split has been given for 2D/3D.

Next up was last week's best selling title, Tangled, which managed 33% of sales on Blu-ray down from 41%. New entries Little Fockers, The Chronicle of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Tron: The Original Classic close out the top five with 24%, 44% and 78% sold on Blu-ray respectively.

This week saw the release of Harry Potter and the Death Hallows which should score large market share for the Blu-ray version, and should see a large increase in sales from the previous movie, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Alright!  That's the very last time I go with my gut and forget to read here!

Today I went into town with my cousin and visited my local cex and after carefully looking through out tiny Blu Rays section where I spotted the 3D/Blu Ray/Digital copy of TRON: Legacy.  Now I was hoping to find the edition with the original TRON but something told me that that didn't make it out of the US, so like an idiot I bought the thing at £18.

Fast forward 30minutes, I walked into tesco and what did I find?  The TRON edition I wanted.  Cue me doing this in the DVD and Blu Ray section of Tesco.

This week saw the release of Harry Potter and the Death Hallows which should score large market share for the Blu-ray version, and should see a large increase in sales from the previous movie, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Surely this article is the percentage of DVD to BluRay sales for each title, not market share. Wouldn't rope too much into this as far as TR3N goes.

Sorry should've explained. I was actually more talking about how the visuals had effects on everything. Personally i do think the visuals of the movie had an effect on the sales percentages, in a way i personally could imagine Disney moving further with taking on such a visually-impressive project. Though it's a weird connect-the-dots thing i'm doing in my head :P

Disney has just hired David DiGilio, whose only previous feature film credit was writing the Paul Walker dog movie Eight Below, to write the next chapter in the saga.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Disney still isn't 100% sold on another TRON movie and much rests on the shoulders of the upcoming Tron Uprising television show which will be on Disney XD in 2012. If that generates an audience, and DiGilo's script is solid, then they'll most likely gamble on a sequel to Legacy, which gross $400 million worldwide but cost so much, is only considered a minor success.

Fingers crossed

Hopefully Disney will do another Tron movie. I've already ordered the Tron and Tron: Legacy BluRay and hopefully they arrive soon.

Good news. We plumped for a 3D tv and a PS3 last week (our old Tele died). Watching TRON in 3D at home was fantastic again!  4 times now, and I still love it!

Today I got both Tron movies on BluRay. I've just watched the bonus feature "Flynn Lives". It's a fantastic extra and very well done. I really hope Disney will do a third movie.
