Hollywood Boulevard placemaking
Phase 1: Mid-May 2007, Phase 2: Late 2007
It was confirmed at a presentation to Cast Members in January 2007 that the small street leading from Disney Bros. Plaza to Studio Tram Tour is to be enhanced with the addition of several new sets and facades, creating a faux movie-set 'Hollywood Boulevard' to add to the placemaking and area development of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
Work has now begun. Phase 1 of construction will last until Mid-May 2007. Then, with the new Toon Studio area giving access to Studio Tram Tour, the rest of the street between Art of Disney Animation and the Tram Tour will close completely to allow the main works of the project to be completed.
Due for completion in November/December 2007, ready for the official opening of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in January 2008.
In the extended future, beyond the opening of Tower of Terror, it is expected Production Courtyard will become known as 'Hollywood Studio' with further placemaking enhancements. This topic is for the current Hollywood Boulevard development.

"Hollywood Studio" coming to Paris?
Peter Bell's intriguing new MiceAge article (//http://www.miceage.com/guest/gu061306a.htm) brings news not just about Toon Studios, but also the upcoming Production Courtyard makeover for the opening of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Whilst details on the exact changes and additions to the area are still sketchy, Bell does suggest one very viable rumour that the entire area could be renamed "Hollywood Studio" once the improvements are complete.
Disney has used the "Hollywood Studio" nametag recently to create a new sub-area of it's Hollywood Pictures Backlot land at Disney's California Adventure, and this new rumour about the name being transferred to Paris has quite a bit of weight behind it. With Animation Courtyard next door being renamed "Toon Studio", the new name would balance the naming of the parks lands as well as reinforce the theme and setting of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror's Hollywood Tower Hotel. It could also draw together the current attractions into a more clearly defined theme.
As for what that theme will become once the "placemaking project" is complete, Bell suggests two options. The first would simply see "Hollywood Studios" become an expansion of the Tower of Terror forecourt, with palm trees, an ornamental fountain, art deco touches and extra seating. A brand new rumour, however, is that more radical plans could see Production Courtyard "transformed into a New York street set, with building facades erected around its circumference. Guests would not be able to see the attractions immediately, but would gain access by stepping through the sets into a faux backstage area. The attraction buildings themselves would receive some extra dressing to make them appear more like working sound stages." He goes on to comment that the sets would feature "an art deco feel, liberal amounts of neon, and plenty of fine detailing. If successful, the street set could even be extended beyond the Courtyard, starting at the exit to Studio 1 and running all the way to the Tram Tour station."
It is important to remember, however, that no decision has currently been made as to the direction the Production Courtyard retheme will take. The suggestion of a "Hollywood Studio" rename, though, seems a very likely option, whatever the final design choice.
from WDS Fans (//http://www.wdsfans.com/)
I have read elsewhere, that the Cine magique building will possibly get a new frontage, maybe a paris version of Manns Chinese Theatre, or even Disney's El Capitain Theatre? Lets hope so.
Does anyone know if the placemaking for this area of the park will be done in time for the opening of the Tower, or do they intend to do it after it opens?
Phil
Quote from: "penfold12"I have read elsewhere, that the Cine magique building will possibly get a new frontage, maybe a paris version of Manns Chinese Theatre, or even Disney's El Capitain Theatre? Lets hope so.
I think we won't see a Mann's Chinese Theater frontage. That must become a huge entrance, and it will be much taller then the rest of the building. From the main entrance of the park it must look horrible. Besides that, I think it will be way to expensive. The El Captain idea sounds more realistic... we'll wait and see.
QuoteDoes anyone know if the placemaking for this area of the park will be done in time for the opening of the Tower, or do they intend to do it after it opens?
I thought this will be done in time for the opening of the Tower of Terror. I'm not sure, but at least I hope it will be ready by then. Imagine all kinds of media and celebrities at the Resort when the Tower opens (just like at the opening of Space Mountain in 1995), Disney sure wants the Studios to shine as never before... well, thats probably not to difficult as almost every addition or change is for the better.
Is the El Capitain in New York? If so that would fit wit hthe rummours of New York sets infront of existing buildings with plenty of neon!
I agree with your comment about Manns. It woul dalso be good to have something unique to DLRP
Quote from: "penfold12"Is the El Capitain in New York? If so that would fit wit hthe rummours of New York sets infront of existing buildings with plenty of neon!
No, it's in Los Angeles/Hollywood (?). But it has plenty of neon above the entrance if I remember correctly...

Looks like we definitely need to resurrect this topic! :o
From WDS Fans a few days ago:
QuoteThe Street Set, as reported a few weeks ago on WDS Fans, appears to be bigger than expected. That if we may believe "Soundtracker" on the Micechat forums:
This time, the Imagineers are going to focus on the area surrounding the Tower Of Terror, by installing a new Hollywood street set!The new set will run the length of the miniature boulevard, from the entrance of the Art of Animation building and La Terrace food court, right the way to the Studio Tram Tour station. The station will be hidden behind a large false perspective screen, a little like the one found at the end of the Hollywood Pictures Backlot street in the California Adventure park. The new street will also extend to cover the front of La Terrace, leading into the circular plaza of the Production Courtyard. If all goes well and extra funds are assigned, we might even see extra facades being erected opposite the Rendezvous Des Stars restaurant. (As detailed in one of Peter Bell's articles.)The facades should be in place for the end of next year/early 2008, and look set to totally transform the aspect of the Studios park! I for one can't wait!
As you know how it goes with rumours and the internet... we'll just have to wait and see!
And now more speculation from Soundtracker on MiceChat:
Quote from: "Soundtracker"As for the size, it won't be as impressive as the street sets in DCA or Disney/MGM Studios, although it should be a decent size in itself. Basically, as you exit Studio 1 into the main body of the Walt Disney Studios Park, you'll have the new Toon Studio entrance (already taking shape) on your right, while that whole space in front of you will be a new (relatively short) Hollywood Boulevard.
As already posted, it will cover up both the Tram Tour station, and La Terrasse in front of the Tower of Terror. I expect they will also build a new official entrance into the Production Courtyard plaza, to mirror the Toon Studio entrance across the way, although that's just speculation at this point.
Although not especially grand in scale, I've been told the facades are going to be very detailed, with nice little in-jokes, like the windows on Main Street.
This also paves the way for an extension into a full-length boulevard, should the Tram Tour station ever be moved.
I'm thrilled to see a Hollywood streetset, although it might be a bit small. As long as it can capture the "Hooray for Hollywood!"-mood from the 30s/40s, I am already glad. But what I don't really understand... everybody calls it a streetset. Does this mean that it will become a set, or is it supposed to became a "real" piece of Hollywood? I hope it means the last option because I think that would work best with the Hollywood Tower Hotel story ofcourse.
It will "just" be a set, false facades like the Les Parapluies one but on a much bigger scale. From what I've read they'll be far more detailed then the Studio 1 sets, and since Studio 1 is so good at capturing that Hollywood magic you mention, it should be good. Maybe they'll make some of them functional, like how they use the Shutterbugs set as a photo studio?
Either way, I think this is really just a stand in to make sure the ToT gives a good impression, paving the way for a full-on street set in many years to come...
Interesting news from HTH2004 on DCP:
The placemaking will start on the 9th January with the addition of lots of extra construction fences either side of the new "boulevard" and around the Studio Tram Tour station.
It will all be finished by May. Then, in October, fences will move further outwards near Armageddon, as the attraction is further integrated (plants, etc I guess).
So - much sooner than I expected, if this is true! :o
   WOW.
Let's bring it on! :)
Raptor1982 just sent me a picture message from the Studios showing that the trees between Disney Studio 1 and Studio Tram Tour have been dug out, ready to be removed! So I guess that means these rumours are absolutely true - it all begins next week!

Thanks for the pic. I am so excited to finally see some movement at that part of the park. Let's be honest; what is a studio park without a piece of Hollywood? Ofcourse we have Studio 1, which is nice, but no real streetset. I do understand that the Imagineers wanted to focus on the European history with cinema in the first place, but the Europeans are far more interested in Hollywood then the Imagineers could imagine while designing the current Walt Disney Studios park, I think. This is one of the only American themes that can't be beaten by an European take on the theme (unlike Disoceryland/Tomorrowland for example).
I Totaly agree, what we need is Hollywood!
Yeah, people want theme parks to transport them to other places, and a Hollywood street would be a perfect companion to Main Street next door.
It would also be a nice way to set up the two parks of the resort better and let them play off each other. Disneyland is Walt's creation, his big show. Walt Disney Studios is the backstage world, a look at how the magic happens, like his old Disneyland TV shows. They could say the Hollywood street set is almost how Walt found it, when he first arrived in Hollywood with "all those dreams". Now, he'll be stood at one end (the partners statue) showing Disney Studio 1 to Mickey Mouse, kinda like "look where we came from, and look what we achieved".
I'm overthinking it a lot, but then I hope that's something the Imagineers are doing themselves.
Here are more photos from the trees:
http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/p ... lacemaking (http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/production_courtyard_placemaking)
La Rouquine is reporting something about the facade at the end of the new "boulevard" featuring a tunnel to Toon Town like the one in Roger Rabbit. It seems that it will lead to both Studio Tram Tour and Toon Studio... though I'm not sure, it all seems a bit confused.
Imagineers have reportedly been measuring the distances and so on in the area around La Terrasse and the old STT fastpass area at least.
I've been thinking for a while they should build Toon Town behind the costuming building where the props boneyard is now, and have a tunnel to reach it... maybe I'll post it in Imagineering sometime.
Here's a screenshot from Who Framed Roger Rabbit:
La Rouquine also states that the tunnel is also featured on the Hollywood painting inside Studio 1. I'm going through all my photos, to see if I can find it...
Edit:
(Thanks Patrick for pointing it out)
I've never noticed that before!
I can't believe that they'd put it in the middle of the boulevard though like La Rouquine now seems to be saying, I'd think on the right side would be better, just like on that mural.
La Rouquine provides a rough map of what's going on:
1 = the (false) boutique along the length of Art of Disney Animation
2 = the two turrets and the mediterrenean building (or Pueblo Deco, like the tower?)
3 = the two "buildings" and the crossroads
4 = the "tunnel" backdrop
5 = the Hollywood Hills backdrop
http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/5347/placemakpb8.jpg (http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/5347/placemakpb8.jpg)
Now I'm thinking - could the "tunnel" actually mistakenly be something like a Hollywood Studio arch, like the one added at DCA or ones like the Paramount arch (below) ? I still think the tunnel idea is too weird for the Imagineers to do.
I hope the Blvd. buildings are connected or so, the map looks poorly to me. I also wonder how the building near the animation building will look like, it needs to be the same height as the animation building else it will definitely ruin the harmonic view seen from studio 1 ... :(
I think Baloo is right, a tunnel would be a bit strange. According to the map, i think, they have to build a hill from the tunnel entrance to the hollywood hills poster and that would make possible plans for a blvd. expansion quite questionable, i suppose
A good friend of mine saw the actual concept art during the CM Rendez-Vous yesterday and he was really impressed by it. He says that the buildings won't be like the Hollywood Blvd. at Disney-MGM, but rather like the New York Street Set (faux buildings). The buildings are supposed to evoke downtown L.A. in the '30s with lots of neons and will include "skyscrapers".
"skyscrapers"??
What do you mean by that? I know what they're, but how will they implement such a big thing there ?? :?:
Quote from: "Soap""skyscrapers"??
What do you mean by that? I know what they're, but how will they implement such a big thing there ?? :?:
That probably means forced perspective ones, or ones off in the distance behind something else - a bit like the eiffel tower at Epcot but on a smaller scale?
It's interesting they want a "downtown" style rather than the very glamorous style of MGM, DCA and Studio 1. It's something different I suppose. I love the idea of the ToT entrance being around the other side too, opposite Place des Stars. Better for guest flow and for themeing.
Your friend saw the concept-art with the buildings and the Bank of Hollywood but what we'll get is the ones he could see on the pics from the models: Sets from DCA Hollywood Pic Backlot, MGM's Sunset Bvd (we can recognize the Villain shop facade) and others sets. And the backdrop on Tram Tour with the tunnel as the entrance of the attraction.
They're getting ready - a sign for STT has been added on top of the old Fastpass one pointing the way to the temporary entrance (which seems to be via the exit?)
 http://scroogemd.site.voila.fr/jan07/placemak01.jpg (http://scroogemd.site.voila.fr/jan07/placemak01.jpg)
Photo from Scrooge, Disney Magic Interactive (//http://www.disneymagicinteractive.com/forum/templates/Disney/images/icon_minipost.gif).
So they're doing the STT end first (backdrop and tunnel), and then from Mid-May onwards when Toon Studio is open to let guests through, they'll close the middle section between Disney Bros Plaza and STT to complete the sets?
And so it begins...

 Link (//http://www.dlrp.fr/actu_placemaking_disney_studios_962.html)
Oooo I'm quite excited. :)
Do you think they'll redesign the STT queue at any point during this work? Last time I was there it was a bit of a nightmare for the CMs, because only half of it is undercover, meaning they had to separate guests between the two sides to make sure people didn't get wet. Obviously it was originally designed as 6 single queues, so it could do with a rethink.
Quote from: "Baloo"Do you think they'll redesign the STT queue at any point during this work?
I hope so, the queue is quite boring. Does anyone know if they are planning to move the queue structure? From pics it seems to be really close to the Tower of Terror building at the moment. :?
Quote from: "Maarten"I hope so, the queue is quite boring. Does anyone know if they are planning to move the queue structure? From pics it seems to be really close to the Tower of Terror building at the moment. :?
No, the structure won't be moved as far as I can tell. They'll just stick the Hollywood Hills where the current billboard is and then the tunnel entrance near the small tree.
It would be a good opportunity to sort it though, if budget allows. One funny thing I noticed at new year was that the movie posters - the only themeing other than Cruella's car - don't even fit in their display cases. Most have chopped off edges or are too small.
I wonder if Cruella's car will stay? It would make a good prop on the new boulevard, as I know someone suggested a while ago...
So...
The storefront by the AODA queue will be "Gone Hollywood" from DCA?
(//http://lostworld.pair.com/disneyland/california_adventure/hollywood/images/98_gone_hollywood-tb.JPG) (//http://lostworld.pair.com/disneyland/california_adventure/hollywood/images/98_gone_hollywood.jpg)
But what about the Mediterranean building in front of La Terrasse, with arches and an archway leading through? A new tips board will be featured in one of the arches, so could it be based on "Schmoozies"?
 http://www.laughingplace.com/files/guid ... A99-11.jpg (http://www.laughingplace.com/files/guide/dl/land/00043//big/A99-11.jpg)

And "Off the Page", that'll be used for the building on the right of the "crossroads" (nr.3 on the WDS Fans map) ?
These seem the most obvious choices to me, but maybe I'm wrong. WDI have already done two Hollywood Boulevards, so it wouldn't be like them (or kind to the budget) to go designing brand new detailed facades.
La Roquine says on DCP that construction has been delayed and will start on January 29th! Construction fences will be put on place here and there in the mean time.
Just to add to my post above, here are a couple of photos of the D-MGM Villains shop Kinoo mentioned they spotted on page 2:

I can't be sure if we'll get the movie theatre and/or the white building, but either way it looks really nice! :)
I guess this'll be on the left of the crossroads, with "Off the Page" opposite? I could just be making this all up now.

I want villians in vogue!!!!!
I like Villians In Vogue aswell. The architecture is really tastefull. For some reason I also like Gone Hollywood; the building looks quite real and the metalic details above the first level ("Gifts" etc) seem similar to the details of Tower of Terror at DCA. Hopefull, we will get some really small things like the suitcases and a billboard on top of one of the buildings aswell (at least I know they do it at the New York Streetset at Disney-MGM, so it shoud be possible here too, I think). One or two oldtimers would really give character to the place aswell (and don't forget the jazz music...) 8)
Even though our Hollywood Boulevard will be really small, and we shouldn't get our hopes to high, I cant stop Imagineering about this subject.
By the way, Schmoozies looks like one of the most ugly structures I have ever seen in a Disney themepark. The color and shape make it look cartoony, cheap and unreal. And for the first time in 51 years, the Imagineers managed to screw up the forced perspective aswell, at least it seems.

Hehe, very true. But with a slight redesign, a paint scheme similar to the Tower, lose the garish signs... I think it could work. I like the arches with seats at least, and they seem to fit in with what we heard about the tips board in an arch.
Quote from: "Maarten"Even though our Hollywood Boulevard will be really small, and we shouldn't get our hopes to high, I cant stop Imagineering about this subject.
It's got me excited too. More because the Imagineers seem to know exactly what we want and what the park needs, and they're doing a lot for DLRP's pretty non-existent budget. After the current round of construction is done, WDS might just tick off all our wishlist... for the time being.
Whoa! Just a few fences "here and there" then! :o :o
Edit: Eugh, ok, you have to go to the page: http://www.disneytheque.com/index.php?/ ... g-WDS.html (http://www.disneytheque.com/index.php?/archives/61-Projet-Placemaking-WDS.html)
Can you imagine what it'll be like when the entire street is cut off by fences? I suppose at least the Toon Studio ones should be gone by then... Hopefully they'll put a good banner for ToT there, so people in June will see a reason to return!
Well, I think it looks horrible :? , but if the results are worth it, so be it.
Wow! They should definately work fast so that the fences can be gone soon!
Is WSDP normally that busy in January? I thought it was normally dead this time of year? :?
If you go at the weekend it's almost always busy.
Maybe they were just construction wall fans, out to get photos of the new attraction?
29th january has gone und nothing new about the placemaking, so what's up? Anybody who can tell?
raptor1982 and flor are at DLRP this weekend I believe, so they might be able to tell us if anything has actually started yet. :)
The entire project isn't meant to be completed until November/December. They're installing, what, 8 sets in that time?? Seems it's going to be a slow job...
whoheeee

Things are really going to make the Filmpark more and more interesting to visit. Hopefully in few years it will be as cool and entertaining as Disney park.
GJ :)
This is just horrible. This for a whole year
I thought those photos were photoshopped at first. That's just... insane.
It should be better once the Toon Studio link is open. I really hope they work fast with this now, there's no need for it to take the better part of 10 months, surely.
oh no i thought after the huge ammounts of fencing for toon studio and TOT they might wait a while. the park is pratically coverd in it now
QuoteI thought those photos were photoshopped at first
Yeah someone has been playing a little bit too much with filters...
I dont know what to say! I cant wait for this placemaking, and yes the park needs it so much, but surely they cant operate the whole summer, potentialy the busiest summer the resort has seen, with that much fenced off???
Could they not do one side at a time to minimise the fencing? Or is it a clever plan to entice all the extra visitors to the resort this year, to return once it is all finished! lol
You have to understand this is low season, so there are a lot more fences now then there will be during next summer season (there's also the HUGE press event on the 31th of March). I believe there has been posted something on wdsfans or dlrptoday about the timeslot. I'll try to dig it up later.
Here are some more photos. They were carefully removing the trees on the side of La Terrasse (the roots were wrapped in so they can be reused on a different location).

Funny thing is, when you look at those photo's, the fences give you a feel of what it will look like! They create a defined walkway to STT, where as before it felt a little open and empty.
At least we will get something good when the fences are gone
Yeah, that's what I thought as well, but I really hope they will make the street a bit wider, as it feels very claustrophobic now.
I would imagine they would to allow a decent flow of traffic. Wow just imagine it later in the year when the nights are dark early again, all lit up! Could and should look amazing
Thanks for the pics raptor!
To be honest, this looks embarassing. This is not how people should remember a Disney-park. But well, we know what kind of reward we will get at the end of the road. Hopefully the full paying parkguests show some understanding for the situation aswell.
What are these many fences for??
I hope they'll be put away in September? ;)
Ok this isnt has ground breaking as the photos I published when they put up the big turtles poster, but still I thought it was exciting enough to see some progress with the hollywood placemaking....
What is going to happen to Terrace Perrier? Will that be knocked down to make way for the new frontages, or will that remain, but behind them?
It will remain in place. The facades to go in front of it sound like they'll have a similar theme, so it'll maybe look like it's part of the same set.
The old planters around the area are now completely gone, dug up and flattened, though the La Terrasse sign is still standing:
(source: magny-seb http://60671.aceboard.fr/ (http://60671.aceboard.fr/))
DLRP.fr has a few photos too I think. The lights they have on the fences are pretty cool. hehe
It looks like it'll be a much bigger job than just sticking the sets on the edges of the current path too, which is good. La Terrasse covers a much bigger area than you realise when you're in the park.
So the view from La terrasse will be the back of the new sets effectively?
Quote from: "penfold12"So the view from La terrasse will be the back of the new sets effectively?
Ehhm yes. But we've heard the backs won't be all bare scaffolding but clean and black, like the Parapluies one. There's meant to be extra planting too, so you won't really notice it. From the ToT area, the "real" La Terrasse will probably be all we see... it won't look fake at all. :)
I'm not sure if La Terrasse will be kept as a seating area like it is now, I suppose then it could be a problem.

This will probably sound really stupid but I just had an idea about the tunnel from Hollywood Boulevard to the Toon Studios.
How about it could be like a Liberty and Discovery Arcade sort of thing in the Disney park. Quite a long walkway stretching from one land to another and then it could maybe be a walkthrough of all the Disney films up to now, with photos all the way along for you to look at.
As I said when I started this probably sounds stupid but it is just something I thought up on the spur of the moment.
Quote from: "disneymadchris"This will probably sound really stupid but I just had an idea about the tunnel from Hollywood Boulevard to the Toon Studios.
The tunnel won't go from Hollywood Studio to Toon Studio - it will serve as the entrance to Studio Tram Tour in front of a large backdrop of the Hollywood Hills.
Whilst I like your imagination, don't forget we have a dedicated forum for it: Imagineering (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14)
Oh right. Sorry.
An interesting post from "Soundtracker" over at MiceChat.
QuoteFrom the (fairly detailed) description posted by Gradmath over on the Disney Central Plaza forum, the finished boulevard should be very impressive.
Although they will only be facades (in the same style as Hollywood Pictures Backlot in DCA) they will be extremely detailed, with windows that light up, billboards, animated neon signs, wrought iron balconies, etc. It won't just be facades, of course, but a whole street, with lamp posts, mail boxes, antique cars, and so on.
I assume they won't go the cheap way this time. This Hollywood Boulevard already sounds like a boulevard of dreams, don't you think? :)
I haven't heard about this for a while now. Any more news?
Does anyone know when the actual facades will be installed. I mean, I know the first section will be complete by May but will the facades be installed in the middle of construction or right at the end?
Get ready to be amazed...

Quote from: "WDSfans.com"Here it is! The first concept art for the Hollywood Blvd. to hit the internet! This wonderful piece of artwork by Walt Disney Imagineering shows the Hollywood Tower Hotel surrounded by a bunch of Hollywood-styled buildings.
The current Tram Tour station has been covered up by a large Hollywood Hills backdrop and La Terrasse seems to be non-existing.
But insiders insist that this won't be the actual Boulevard currently under construction. A slight different version has been thought up with similar buildings as can be found at Disney's California Adventure park. A concept art for this version exists as well (and was seen by yours truly) and looks even more impressive.

Wow! Im not easily impressed but this blows me away. I can't tell you how thrilled I am by finally seeing the concept art. Although we will apparently get a slightly different boulevard, it already breaths atmosphere when you look at the drawing. I'm not that fond of the backdrop, but I'm glad that we will get the tunnel instead. And although I would like to see all the facades on this concept art becoming reality, I think I prefer the scheduled version of La Terrasse just as much! Great stuff. :D
The Hollywood that never was is finally here.. well almost..
Just fantastic, and just what the studios neeed!! I cannot wait now, and just hope it looks as good in reality
That looks incredible! Wow, wow, wow! I love it! I'm not too keen on the backdrop but the rest of it is just
It looks great :)
looks brillant
I really like the idea of creating a hollywood city around the Tower. That makes look it much real. Can´t wait to see the actual concept and the finnished hollywood studio!
wow!! i cant believe how good it looks ,it is fantastic cant wait till it all opens soooo excited!! :ears:
are they still planning to open jan 2008 ?
yeah oh wow it is very exited to see new stuff.. i hope it will look like this, its a very good concept art!
now i cant yait to see everything is done, dont wanna wait anymore i wished dhey fix it today :D
so now i hope when everything is fixed and opened they get a lot of money and can build every year more new stuff for the studios i wanna see that the park grows!!!
I am speechless that looks so good. :D
very exiting!
have they start building it yet?
Yes, groundbreaking has started last month.

They sould hurry up a bit! I want to see something of it at my trip in July!
are there going to be any new shops ,or diners in the new hollywood theme area? :ears:
Quote from: "shell_ely"are there going to be any new shops ,or diners in the new hollywood theme area? :ears:
Maybe in the fouture but I don't think any are planned for the initial stage of work.
There should be one or two "windows" that will serve Studio Catering Co. styled food, similar to Disney California Adventure.
Quote from: "raptor1982"There should be one or two "windows" that will serve Studio Catering Co. styled food, similar to Disney California Adventure.
Not more vans, the Studio are already crowded with then. :(
Hopefully after a few years a restaurant like The Brown Derby might be added to liven it up. It has a Hollywood theme as well, so it would fit in well thre.
Who said anything about vans? I'm talking about the windows from the actual sets!
Grandmath confirmed there will be 3, all around the former La Terrasse area.
cool! whay about any shops selling gifts ,t.o.t stuff etc ? :nemo:
Is this still scheduled to open late 2007?

Im not totaly sure but i think someone posted soemthing before about there being a Tower Hotel gift shop. Theres obviously going to be a shop because its going to be one of the biggest rides in the resort and one of the most popular attractions.

Yes, there is going to be a giftshop at the exit of the attraction. The shop will be themed in the same Pueblo Deco style of the building. In the US versions of the shop you can buy your onride photo, towels with the HTH sign, HTH keys, t-shirts and so on...
cool got to get a towel :P
any new pics? its been a while since we last saw any. isnt some of this supposed to be open in may?
No, fullscale work begins in May with the entire stretch between Studio 1 and Studio Tram Tour closing. We should see more results from then onwards...
They are taking their time though. I think we'll probably see a surge in work as soon as the Toon Studio area is done. With Crush and Cars complete work suddenly picked up massively on Tower, so hopefully the same changeover will happen here.
Im going in January 2nd week. Do you think this will be open for my visit?
Yes, Yes, Yes and for the final time Yes  . It has been stated that Tower of Terror opens in January so yes the facades will be there by then.
Thanks Patmagic! Sorry to be an annoyance! :D
A large metalic structure has been installed in front of La Terrasse!
Disneytheque has a few photos here:

Wow! Ok, this is going to be pretty major. I still have visions in my head of it all being like an extended version of the Les Parapluies de Cherbourg set, but now this looks quite big! When you think from this frame they've got to build the walls, plaster, paint, decorate, etc, I can understand why it's taking so long now.
This must be first "Mediterranean tower" then, on the right "arm" of La Terrasse...

Yes it looks great and seem to be much more a real "building" than I expected from the plans.
It will be a great ambiance to sit between the tower and this mediterranean structur.
It should be the "Off the Page" façade from Disney California Adventure Park that's being constructed:

Photo by "nicoetsab" on Disney Central Plaza forum
Hard to tell the perspective, but does the frame look big enough to be the "off the page" building?
Definitely tall enough, but maybe the bit they just added is too thin at the top compared to the DCA version, unless they're going to add more frames around the side? It does start to get thinner at about the same level as DCA though, and the park map also shows a building practically identical to Off the Page.
It's weird to see ToT starting to be surrounded like this, quite cool though. I think they've answered all those people worried about the Tower's location now, especially hiding it away like this. I've not heard anyone moan "it should have been at the back of the park!" for months. :)
I hope that if we will get an Off the Page-facade, it will be slightly different. It seems like a great addition, although I prefer something thats "inspired by" if you know what I mean.
I am getting so excited. Just imagine sitting down at one of the tables at the surrounded La Terrasse area and listening to the jazzy music in the background, streetmosphere in front of the Tower and enjoying the art deco architecture... I wish it could be 2008 already! 8)
And its getting even more bigger !

Is the "Off the page" building in DCA an actual shop or just a facade, like we are getting?
it´s a real shop:

No it means we're getting a facade, just because one park has something does not mean dlrp will get it.
But that also means that it COULD be a real shop, nobody knows it officially and is guessing. Because one park already got a shop, that doens't mean DLRP won't get one also
Yes but at the moment there´s no shop in sight.
It´s a facades boulevard with some eating-counters at the La Terasse area.
Maybe one of this counters is in this building. Not more
But I don´t see a shop like at DCA in it at the moment.
We should wish it upon a star :D
Riebi is corrent, absolutely 100% just facades at this point. Though I also agree that I'd be surprised if they didn't use at least one of them for something like a Studio Catering Co counter...
Exciting news today! Raptor1982 reports a second building framework has risen!

Does anybody no if we will be getting the backdrop and if yes will it be as big as Disneys California Adventure ?

To be honest I hope we don't get the backdrop. I don't know... I just don't like it. I'd rather have a better STT station :?
About the backdrop, this has been said before. (And a quick look-up at WDSfans.com could have answered your question).
The big "poster" on the Studio Tram Tour station will be replaced by a backdrop of the Hollywood Hills!

Very impressive ;)
The backdrop is still planned, however (take it with a grain of salt) I'm told that the tunnel idea has been scrapped, because the effect would'nt have been great. This I can surely understand, as I never understood how a 50 cm long tunnel would have been realistic in a forced perspective setting, and how the Tram Tour Station visible behind it wouldn't seem out of place at the end of the boulevard.
But then again, this is unconfirmed.
Wow, i love the elevator doors on the constuction fences! :D Disney really know how to theme their fences! 8)
Does anyone have any close ups of the posters on the fences?
Although this should be talked about in the ToT topic, here is a closer taken photograph for you Charlotte :)

Great pics..It's looking great :D
This structurs of the new hollywood bvd, looks realy great and impressiv. It´s much bigger than I´ve think about it.
One of the building permit signs outside the park (near Val d'Europe) mentions that some buildings will be 19 meters tall! I guess that's the faux-store facade on the Art of Disney Animation side. The other sign mentions decors with a 7.10 meters height, as those will probably be the ones in front of the Tower.

Are they moving the entrace to the tram tour back at all, or is all this building being placed infront of where the entrance is now?
QuoteIn fact, the biggest buildings will be the two main towers at the end of the boulevard.
That was option nr. 3 and makes more sense...
What are/where these buildings in real life?
Edit: Found out that the tall building on the left is the First National Bank building, is the other one Hollywood & Vine?
QuoteAre they moving the entrace to the tram tour back at all, or is all this building being placed infront of where the entrance is now?
The passage will reopen as it was after construction finishes!
It is the Hollywood Broadway Building at Hollywood & Vine, but it is just a guessing as it looks like the same building. For the other one it is a sure thing ;)

Is it for sure that there will be only facades? Or will there be also real shops/restaurants?
there should be a counter for snacks and drinks in some buildings around the ToT but no real shops or something like in main street.
The fake Gone Hollywood store is going vertical! For the new mousketeers: it's located on the Art of Disney Animation side and will hide the AODA queue line.

Sorry to act like a nube but when you walk into the tower will you be able to see the back of the facades or do they go all the way around and are just hollow inside ?
Wow it looks so tall!
I'm so happy to see so much progress. Too bad it won't be open this summer.
I'm still wondering how the transition between the gone hollywood facade and AODA will be. I dont't like the idea of obviously beeing a facade seen from the main point of exit, the exit of studio 1 :?
Quote from: "Owain"Sorry to act like a nube but when you walk into the tower will you be able to see the back of the facades or do they go all the way around and are just hollow inside ?
At DCA and MGM they show you both sides so you can see how props are made. I would expect that to be the case.
Look how fast it goes! Even more metal bars have been put on the rest of the buildings in front of the Tower:

WOW! And look how little the humans look beside the constructions.
Are they now going to add the "real" facade?
tot is concrete because of french construction laws,
the steel structures, I dont know

If im right, im sure the Facades will be going down the Street to where the Studio Tram Tour Station is. Then the Studio Tram Tour sign will be replaced by a Hollywood Hills facade.

According to member Kinoo who overheard a conversation between Imagineers and journalists over the press event, it seems confirmed that the Place des Stars will be getting its own placemaking next year (the name Theater District was also mentioned), with a complete overhaul of the Cinémagique facade.
Seems great to me that they confirm it, and it looks like a great prep work for Soarin too (which I keep hearing about from different ways, even if there is still no confirmation) :o

Its quite interesting that this Theater District rumor keeps coming back. It sound like a nice idea but my only concern is that Soarin' and the Stitch attraction wouldn't fit in that well. On the other hand, as long as the current Production Courtyard will finally receive a make-over and a clear identity, I'm happy with it. Adding more art deco elements and palmtrees would give this area a great Hollywood kind of feel.
QuoteSeems great to me that they confirm it, and it looks like a great prep work for Soarin too (which I keep hearing about from different ways, even if there is still no confirmation) :o
Soarin' would be a great addition to the Walt Disney Studios. Although thematically it doesn't make any sense in a Studio themed park, its a great ride (I even enjoyed it more then the Tower of Terror in Orlando last year). Personally I would even prefer Soarin' over Splash Mountain at the Disneyland Park. Just one question; how are they going to fit the massive Soarin' building between Cinemagique and the Television Studio? :?
Well, they could always build Soarin' with just one theatre, instead of the two that it has at Epcot. However, that might be a bit short-sighted. Soarin' would be such a success and bring so many more people into WDS, that it would need two theatres to avoid massive queues.
Still, it'd surely be quite a bit cheaper to build with just one theatre, right?
I agree, Soarin' is one of the best attractions at Walt Disney World. It's a bit sad, because it doesn't have any animatronics or sets, but the experience (to some) can be a lot more enjoyable than Pirates or Splash Mountain!

I dont no if im right but ive heard it before, I think it was built for TOT because we were suppose to have ours by 2004 so preperations would have started when the park opened. But california needed it due to loss of people in DCA, so they got our tower of terror slot.

That is correct, however forget the idea we gratefully gave DCA the tower, they took it anyway, since they were after some way to save the failing DCA. WDS just could not afford such a thing for a 2004 opening as had originally been proposed for wds. This was due to loss of funds thanks to less than a major increase of visitors to dlrp when wds opened as had been expected. Hence why in late 2004 the loan refinancing was completed and eurodisney sca was granted more money  . That's why dca got the tower first, there was no slot idea as I have heard of. Also Toilets of terror and La terrasse were both built to match the pueblo style of ToT  . The direct link was even placed on la terrasse, by the nice engraving of HTH on the top middle area of the archway.
I am not sure La Terrasse has been repainted yet. Didn't they just scratched all the white paint on the pictures? Color looks like Tower's, but it looks odd. Not a "Disney" paint
I saw the painters put on a layer of primer a couple of weeks ago, I assumed they repainted it. :)

I'd guess because they aren't proper buildings, just pieces of themeing. The small front tower with a dome on ToT was also built using steel before getting themeing slapped on top, I think these are the same.

If an image is wider than 800 pixels, you have to post it as an URL (see the magicforum dos and don'ts).
About the facades, Off the Page will be the building on the far right of the Tower. It has been discussed several pages ago (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=835&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=103).
A building with a dome, also from DCA, will be featured on the left.

There's no need to spam the topics like this. If there are new photos, they will get posted. :)
In the mean time, I'm posting this photo made by Grandmath at Disney Central Plaza forum. It's a rendering made by himself that shows which buildings from DCA will be used in our Blvd.

I've never meant to spam. I was just asking. There's no need to be so drastic with your replies.
There's no need to challenge a moderator or admin's reply.
OK, you right. =D>
Looking good the "new" facades on the montage by Grandmath! I'm very curious how it will look in real life. It will give WDS a different face i think?
It definitely will. I've personally seen a concept art with these buildings which had some slight changes, mostly just signs. There was a huge vertical sign to the side of the Off the Page boutique with "La Terrasse" letters.
That'll liven up the studios a bit! :)
This new addition to the studios will certainly liven the place up a bit and really should compliment the Tower of Terror! Can't wait!!!

Hm very small steps there. I have wished that i can see more when I go to DLRP. But it seems that I have to wait!
I can't wait to see this placemaking project fnished, although I'm not sure about those tower structures near the Tram Tour station. :?
Edit: The rendering made by Grandmath shows a tipping board in front of the facades. Is it confirmed that we will get this feature considering that the Studios already received a new tipping board about a year ago or so? :)
I am getting really excited now.. can't wait to see the finished result!
Quote from: "Maarten"Edit: The rendering made by Grandmath shows a tipping board in front of the facades. Is it confirmed that we will get this feature considering that the Studios already received a new tipping board about a year ago or so? :)
It will be the new one, although relocated and placed under a hispanic style roof, such as the one in MGM. :)
Im not complaining, infact the opposite, but why the turn around in the theming of the park. For the first few years it was a "working studio" them, meaning grey cement and open spaces. Now.... Detailed theming with that imaginary twist. I know the facades are just that, movie facades, but wow! And also the theming around cars is hardly reminicent of a working studio. So, what prompted the turn around?
I have been thinking that myself actually.
Guest complaints lol :)
Has somebody a pic of the disney mgm tipping board?
    what just happened here???

Look at the roof tops of the facades!!!!
Damn, you beat me to it
It is very impressive how fast this this is actually becoming reality, not long ago we had only just found out about it and we've already got close details added to it, well done Disney :)
They're working really hard. Great!
The faster the better :)
Whoaaa!! What a construction update! :o
It looks fantastic already. Adds so much character and story to a previously blank area. Great work, WDI.

Well, I don´t really know if I like it. The roof tops don´t really fit into a hollywood boulevard theme, do they ? But they do indeed fit to our ToT.
I guess it´s a little too early to bash it :D , but I´m a bit "surprised".
I was awaiting something different. I don´t know exactly what Let´s see how it´ll develop.

Wow.
Yes, WOW! How big it would be. It's great to look at it's progress.
I hope my mom likes it :P
And I can see the blur on peoples faces, very neat Baloo :P

No more big open spaces in WDS! That's such a good thing!!! :D
What a great work of art!! The roof is on FIRE @ WDS :P
Woooooooohoooooooooooo! Looks so cool! I´m very happy that I will see bit more than only steel when I go to DLRP!
Yep,
It looks absolutely dazzling when you enter from Studio 1 :)
And not just dazzling! The buildings are really HUGE when you're standing in front of 'm! Who'd ever guest that the Imagineers knew what they were doing when placing it in the middle of WDS, it's a true new icon.
Talking about icon's, guess what replaced the Earffel Tower on the new 2008 calendar?? (photo in the Tower of Terror topic).

WOW! I had my doubts about this at first (with it covering the entrances to TOT and STT) but I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is going to be truly amazing :)
Thanks for the pictures Raptor, they're brilliant, especially the last one

I wasn't sure about it either when I first heard about this project, but I'm definitely really excited about it now! :D :P
Raptor, thank you for the pics once again. I was really looking forward to them and they were definately worth the wait.
However, I am not sure how the forced perspective will work. I mean, seeing the First National Bank located next to a 56 metres high building seems a bit odd. On the other hand, it fits with the movie set theming, although I regret that our piece of Hollywood isn't a set for once. Is the Hollywood Tower Hotel supposed to be a real hotel or a set aswell? :?
Edit: Although we are talking about the placemaking around the Tower, is there any news on the placemaking project near the exsisting Place des Stars? If they have any plans to rebrand this area to Hollywood Studio/Theatre District, I guess they must hurry up to get everything done by January? Unless they have only a few small enhancements planned ofcourse.
Wow that looks all so brilliant! And the visitors in front of the boulevard looks small small small! And you´re right! It´s an iconic and wonderful place for the tower and the Boulevard buildings! It will be a gorgeous
hello! after walking across studio 1!
These buildings are gonna be stunning. I'm sooooo pleased that the Studios is getting such attention to detail.
I'm really looking forward to sitting on the steps of this building. (I found these trawling the net so thanks to Jeffs LostWorld)

Obviously these buildings will have quite alot of detail!
Wow, these buildings are transforming quickly. Coolbeans :p
What a super detail, what a amazing job, in such a short time....
Seeing all the details, I wonder how they get along with the estimated budget of 250 millions for all the new attractions. ToT is somewhat around 160 millions ? Then we´ve got Toon Studios (Cars and Nemo), Buzz and next years Stitch attraction. Is it just me or is anyone else wondering how they manage that.
Does anyone have any details on how much they´ve spend so far ?
A lot of details but the whole placemaking is prefabricated, I believe in a cheap plastic-like quality. Obviously thoses motifs were not sculpted  So I don't think it costs that much. Doesn't matter afterall, it is mainly there to have a good look, but it still is a movie set.
I think the detail on it looks really good, I really can't wait to see it finished in all it's glory! lol
wow, that totally awesome dude!
very big change since sunday, very nice detail on the facade...
the mouldings are prefab but they don't look prefab, that's what makes it so nice, in a little while, the whole thing will get painted and will get an aged effect and it'll look as the building was handsculpted from the ground up, and all this about 60 years ago
can't wait till the next update, good job imagineering and developement!
WoW! Looks cool! And also a bit diffrent from the MGM thing.
It's astonishing how detailed these buildings are. I'm so happy that DLP is more and more looking on higher quality of every little bit. Just like Walt did hisself. ;-)
Yeah, i really like it, too. I hope they start to roughcast the higher buildings in the near future as well :D
I looked at the new map again and i recognized that the buildings are heavily out of proportion. It's hard for an unkowingly person that to take notice of the new buildings. I hope they redo the entire map, it looks like a circle shaped park, but it's more of an L-ish shape
Sitting in la teressa, what will the back of these facades look like? Before you had the view of the rest of the park, will it be just the view of the back of the sets? As in scaffolding etc? Not that thats bad, just wondered!
The back of the sets will be themed as well, but not as elaborate as the front view.

Its nice how its going up so quickly. One thing that worries me from looking at some of those close ups, are those small holes (I assume that has something to do with the way they are placed on the wall?) going to always be there? They seem very clear and easy to point out.

Took five years....
Yes!! So it's really, truly going... the park map had me confused for a moment, I was beginning to think the Hollywood Hills might just be in front of the sign, but no!!
Thanks for the photos Japper! I'm also impressed how the scale of the First National Bank matches with ToT, I was worried it'd look a little silly.
Imagine all the new comers to disney who dont no what was happening to the sign and they all thought the ride was closing down ! :P
Will there be another sign notifying that Studio Tram Tour is at the end of Hollywood Boulevard ?
Noooooo !!! no seriousely, I get sentimental when things make their exit at DLRP  well I actually did not dislike the facade but... make way for something new I guess... It will be better, I know, but ooh the grief!
byebye facade, au revoir!
This picture was actually taken on wednesday so I guess the sign must be completely removed by now! :D
QuoteWill there be another sign notifying that Studio Tram Tour is at the end of Hollywood Boulevard ?
Yes, there will be signs that will lead the way to the tram tour. They will be in the same Hollywood Style as the rest of the buildings.
Great, I've always hated that Studio Tram Tour sign. It's so cheap and tacky. It looks like that airbrush art you get on fairground rides, NOT exactly the sort of thing you expect in a Disney park.
Yes! :D :D :D It's finally coming down! :D :D :D I'm so glad the Studios is getting more and more good theming :D :D :D

Awesome, it looks like its really coming together now. In the last picture is that a new structure being built around the tour station?
No that would be the Tram Tour station facade railings, no doubt to be replaced by the Hollywood Hills or something that they had planned to go on there  .
All I can say from that photo is wow it actually looks better without the photoshopped Dinotopia, Catastrophe Canyon Tram Tour sign  .
Yep, that's where the Hollywood Hills will go.
Ahhh, more details :) It's so good to see the Tram Tour billboard gone
Is it me, or do some of those facardes going down towards the tram tour look incredibly cheap and tacky? Shame they wont be building them the same way they are infront of ToT.
First of all, they're not finished yet. Second of all, they're build with the very same technique as the New York streetset at Disney-MGM Studios.
I know they're not finished yet Raptor, but I was on about the two-dimensional scale, and secondly nor have I seen the version in Disneyworld. I was just stating what I could see.
Yeah I get your point, but what I'm trying to say is, let's not judge until it's finished. :D The Boulevard part (as in the street leading up to the Tram Tour) is intended to be a forced perspective. You have a few buildings on the foreground and the background are the Hollywood hills. The use of 2D façades is very very common in the movie industry since filmcamera's can't see the difference between 2D and 3D, on a background. This technique is used at the streetsets in Universal Studios parks and Disney-MGM.
Like this:
Disney-MGM:
Universal Orlando:
:D
I understand how they work and how they are used effectivly to force perspective, but being in a film is different then being by the facardes themselves. In a film cameras use apperture settings to blur the backgrounds anyway so they're not in focus and nor are they picked up on, i'm just worried a bit about walking down this greatly themed area to get to some glorified cardboard cut out!

Don't worry - the effect in MGM Studios is truly amazing!
I hope they'll add similar sound effects in our Studios. I swear, in MGM I truly thought a bus was coming up behind me about to hit me... That's how good the effects were. :D (Visited Florida in 2001.)

I'm not too sure if I like the First National Bank in forced perspective next to the Tower of Terror in full scale. Its probably too soon to judge but I am worried that the forced perspective effect won't work that well. :?
Let's wait and see.

Oh now we know from where they got their inspiration.
Wow what a progress!!! More details. The new small Hollywood Boulevard (shortest Hollywood Boulevard ever???) is taking shape.
Hopefully there will be one or two shops inside the buildings. Maybe a small shop with only pins, or facial painting. A nice small counter for drinks or snacks will be a nice addition ass well. Great details, but for the Bank buildingwell I don't know...bit out of place.
Maybe possible inside the "Chapman Park Market"builidings:P
Well wait and see and hope for the best...

(seen on DCP)
OMG ! The Whole place is getting better and better. Check out "photo 3879", Its the bank facade and it looks awesome. :)
And the photo of looking straight down the boulevard is amazing with all the structures ready to become facades. :D
Looking absolutly great! Amzing piece of imagineering and a great addition to WDS Paris :D

Arno
Great photo's Arno!! Been there myself until 22 august, but in only 1 day it looks so much further  Great work going on over there!!
A new concept art!
So will you be able to walk through the facades (through the arches on the left) directly to the tower?
Yes you can walk through the façades, since the La Terrasse seating area will still be located behind the sets. :D
The boulevard definitely looks better in this concept art than in the one that was posted a while back :D The backdrop looks a lot better in this one as well.
i found this photos at disney magic interactive mades by kyoto. Enjoy it:

Nice to see in the 2nd picture that there starting on the other facades ! :)
Dreamseeker, photos wider than 800 pixels have to be posted as links. (As stated in our forum dos and don'ts.) Thanks. :D
those links dont work now.... can someone correct them please? :)
Wow!
That concept art looks amazing. It will be great if you can walk through the arches of those facades to get to the tower. The studios is going to look so different when I go next year, and it's going to look so much better! :D
dlrp-mad :mickey2:
I just thought about the little walkway between Toon Studio and Tram Tour...
How will the facades look from this point of view?
Will it be a look "behind the scenes" facade or will they build this part as real buildings?
From this walkway, the facades can't be seen so don't worry.

Wow everyday the boulevard is getting better and better ! :)
It is looking splendid, very nice detail again. It's all coming together quicky now and the First National Bank looking quite good aswell.
It's going to look great when finished, and without a doubt very big!
great job Imagineering!
Hey, have you ever looked for the First National Bank on Google Earth? The 3D model is very similar to what they've built at WDS:
(//http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/3582/untitledfe6.th.jpg) (//http://img108.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitledfe6.jpg)
The "El Capitan" graphic sign has been added to the far left building. Looks great. Those kinds of details (signage), furthermore lit up at night, will add a great deal of realism and mood to the Boulevard!

That's a great reference to the Disney owned theatre! But... this will probably also mean there won't be an El Capitan make-over for Cinémagique?!
does any one know when the boulevard is due to open?
will it be finished by christmas?
my apologies if this has been asked before
Thanks for the update, Grandmath! I really hope these details do light up at night.
Quote from: "raptor1982"That's a great reference to the Disney owned theatre! But... this will probably also mean there won't be an El Capitan make-over for Cinémagique?!
I think the rumours were for a Grauman's Chinese Theatre makeover, weren't they? Hopefully that's still possible...
I read on MiceAge they're thinking about giving the Hyperion Theatre at DCA a proper, enclosed lobby area in the future. Right now it's a bare concrete outdoor area like CinéMagique. I wonder if that's too far-fetched to also happen at WDS?
The El Capitan is also featured quite prominently on the mural at the end of Disney Studio 1, which will be a bit weird now it suddenly has the bank next to it...

Maybe, but perhaps a Chinese Theater makeover ;).
Thanks for posting that Grandmath! :D

I believe it will be ready sometime in November
:offtopic: But when the Boulevard and Tower are both open will this mean Walt Disney Studios getting Later closing times so people can see the effect with the lights on ?
With the Tower the parc is rumoured to close at 8 pm. Ansd in winter you will see all the beautiful nigh effects of Toon Studios too ;).
:) 8pm Closing would be great !
So WDS might close at 8PM, even in the Winter?
An 8pm closing would definitely make sense after Tower of Terror and Stitch open. I'd guess an 8pm closing could be taken whenever DLP closes late at 10pm/11pm, as a rough guide...
It's weird to think the park used to often open 9am-8pm during its first Summer.

I'm sorry, I never really looked into this thread because I'm not interested (or better said "afraid of" ;)) the Tower of Terror, but seems as if there'll be a lot more than that :)
Will the Hollywood Bvd. "only" be a facade of houses, or will there also be smaller attractions, shops, restaurants?!
Thanks for the pictures raptor, they're fantastic :D
great pics!!
I must say it looks very good, and perfectly realistic! This faux perspective works wonders! It's going so fast, and once it'll be finished there will be a bit of color aswell so it surely will be superb! great pics!
To Nala: there will be only facades so no walk in shops or restaurants. I believe there might be a food stand integrated in the design but this will only be take away so you can not get into the 'buildings'.
I didn't know that the First National Bank building was 2D until today! I thought it was a proper building.
Hey Nala_84,
Even if you don't want to ride the Tower of Terror, you can still get in line, enjoy the pre-show in the Libraries, and check out the Boiler Room waiting area, and then exit straight out to the shop. There's so much to experience without getting in one of the elevators.
That being said, the Tower of Terror isn't THAT scary. I wouldn't ride this type of attraction at any other park, but somehow I trust Disney. With the exception of Mission SPACE, Disney don't want to make you throw-up or traumatise you to the point of not enjoying your day. It's a great ride and one that gives you a great lift (even a sense of achievement) when you get off it.

This picture makes me belive that our short Hollywood blvd. will last for long. From this point of view you can see all the steelstructures and i think they're going to change it by pushing the hollywood blvd. even further if the placemaking will be a success. :D
I cant wait until the area opens ! :)

Thanks for posting these photos guys, it's so good to see how well it's progressing. It is growing at a very fast rate now :)
Yes, I have been to Disneyland last week and it looked totally different. They are really really fast =D>
Yay! We have one building this pretty much complete! (On the exterior anyway)
I think it looks really good. Very detailed

Thanks Grandmath for these great photos ! :)
So much has gone one ! The tunnel looks great
And so does the La Brea Carpets building ! :D
It's developing so quickly! I can't wait to have a good look at the construction next week
Thanks Grandmath! The Hollywood Boulevard is progressing rapidly. I can't wait to explore it when it's open. Imagine the neon lights, palm trees, jazzy area loop and the screams of the people in the elevators in the background. :)
By the way; it seems that the Partners Statue is getting a worthy background aswell. Way better then the ugly former Studio Tram Tour billboard. It will be quite hard to recognise the Studios once all the placemakings are done.
Thanks for the update Grandmath, it looks incredible :D

Great photos raptor, thanks for putting them on :D
wow love the photos! thanks for posting them Raptor!
The trees around the Partners statue have been relocated, so that you now get a complete panoramic view of the Boulevard once you go out of Studio 1. It's pretty impressive!
I also posted some new pictures here from today. Enjoy:

Hey, I did not expect that! But it looks good... very good.
I hope they remove the ugly blue lamposts and silver "lighting rig" in that shot now, they're the only things spoiling it. It'd be nice if they continued the new parade route poles and lamposts seen on the concept art into the plaza, if they can stretch the budget.
The view along the boulevard is also much more convincing than I expected. All good. :D

I hope so too! Although those lightning rigs are typically Walt Disney Studios to me, they only fit in with the Backlot area in my humble opinion. At least not in the Hollywood that never was.
QuoteThe view along the boulevard is also much more convincing than I expected. All good. :D
Indeed. It looks really convincing from this point. So far it already looks lightyears ahead of the awfully cheap foreced perspective at DCA. Even the New York and San Fransisco backdrops at MGM look less convincing. Great stuff! :)
WOW  That looks amazing, thanks for the pics Grandmath :)
Stunning...A totally new point of view with those facades! A real piece of art imagineering!
Here's one of my pics from yesterday:
This looks great ! :)
Can't find another word for it.....impressive!!! :D
Thanks for the pic, it looks amazing :D
That's certainly an improvement. You get a real sense of depth with those facades, as if there really is a big urban street extending off into the distance. Two things though:
- As others have said, the street lighting is a mess. I really detest those industrial lighting columns. They look so cheap and temporary. Surely some ornate 1930s street lamps would look better?
- I think the Partners statue looks out of place now. I think an Art Deco fountain would look much better in that location.
I was just wondering. Why didn't they put the flat 2-d buildings and large Hollywood Hills behind the entrance of the tram tour station? And a few more real buildings before the entrance ( you would have to change the entrance of course).
That would bring more realism and perspective and would the tramtour be more part of the Hollywood Boulevard.
ps. I hope they will put a few small shops inside the real buildings. Like pin-station or make-up or dress shops for kids. I think there are to less smaller shops at the studios. Like The Magic Kingdom/ Disneyland Parc
I think this is all they could build for the budget (and some theming shouldn't be missed as well, plants, flowers, etc..) but i think it is the plan to move the flat buildings further to stretch the blvd and to put more real buldings inbetween when attendance will increase and more money will be available. hopefully.
Anyway despite the new attractions and the two placemakings, the park didn't expanded its boundaries much. In wich direction it will go? Into the forest behind the tram tour or towards the open fields behind the television bulding? :?
do you think that the fences will be removed sometime in november so people can walk down it?
I was just wondering, where abouts is the arch located? :?: I never actually saw it when I was there
wich arch? the tunnel entrance is right at the end of the blvd.
@miss disney fan: possible. i think the will be removed right after they completed the blvd to let the people reach the tram tour through the original way. Everything progrosses fast and till november it's mote than a month time.

Quote from: OwainThe Placemaking is looking great ! :) QuoteGreat, great??? its SUPERB!!! wow the themeing goes so well with the TOT especially the domes on the buildings and the Tot - Kepp up the great work dlrp!!
I was wondering, does anyone know if they intend to build a curb and sidewalk infront of the new facades?
Sounds daft, but imagine the facades on the same level as the rest of the flooring, then again with a curb. They have to dont they?
Quote from: "penfold12"Sounds daft, but imagine the facades on the same level as the rest of the flooring, then again with a curb. They have to dont they?
Oh yes, I'm a proud supporter of the "bring curbs to WDS!" campaign!
Looking at those photos on the ToT topic (by the spectacularly tall person who managed to see over the fence.. :P ), they've at least got one around the ToT itself, same as in California. On the park maps and (I think) concept art, they also show one around the La Terrasse area and buildings... so, it's certainly possible.
A curb would multiply the value of this rather cheap boulevard x1000. Fingers crossed. :)
Yeah total changes the feel of the area!
I looked at a copy of the park map and your right, it makes the Blv area a little "island" with curb etc. Looks great, and makes more sense that its an "island" seperate from TOT. I also noticed on the map that the entrance to the STT had the old frontage, and was located behind the tunnel they are building.
Do you reckon that the old frontage will be reconstructed, in the new location, or was it on the map simply so people would recognise, and no where to head untill the new area is totaly finished??

Wow! This looks great 8) I also hope curbs are added. It definitely wouldn't seem right without them

Yeah, a mixture of that and the fact the map doesn't seem to be properly finished. The buildings either side of the tunnel are in a kind of dark red "proofing" colour, not final... maybe they rushed to get it finished for the start of the 15th guests pouring in? Hopefully the map will be finished up for the end of this year (and they'll have to change the one on the tips board again too..) with the Hollywood hills much bigger.
The STT billboard is gone for good, the supports have been extended higher so this is definitely where the back part of the hills will go.
I wonder if the Imagineers had some kind of burning ceremony with the old billboard? Or maybe, they'll wait until the Cars one comes down too -- hey, we found our 2007 Bonfire Spectacular!

With the whole blvd and tot much bigger. the current map seems absolutely out of scale, they squeezed the new area onto the small meadow of the old map, looking like miniature land.
I remember peaking though the fence onto the site where the tower now sits, and thinking that there was not much space. How wrong was I. looking at those photo's, you realise that the whole area, Tower, gardens, and Blvd is vast! I cant wait for those fences to come down!
New signs at the right site of Hollywood Boulevard, on the flat 2 buildings there are 2 new signs. I believe they are neon lights.

Can't help my feeling:
The 2 buidlings are very nice when you look them at the front...but what a pitty those 2 d buildings when you look them from aside (view from the HTH) or from behind when you are at the STT. They shoud put there 2 more real buildings on that spot and behind the tram tour the 2 d buildings. That should make more perspective and the tram tour part of the boulevard.
What kind of imagineers are working over there haha
More progress on this really nice "real" building:

Wow, great pics, thanks for sharing them Winstonio :)
Great updates Winstonio, thanks! Are those your own photos?
So - we have a new location on the boulevard!! Los Feliz Hotel... Well, let's see - according to Wikipedia's Los Foliz entry:
Quote from: "Wikipedia""Los Feliz is bordered by Hollywood on the south, Hyperion Avenue on the southeast, Griffith Park on the north, the Los Angeles River on the east, and Western Avenue on the west."
"Los Feliz was home to many early movie studios, including the first Disney studio and D. W. Griffith's studio"
What kind of Imagineers are working over there? Pretty great ones! They're just working with a pitiful amount of cash, it's not their fault. For €10m (the rumoured price - very very low for a Disney project), they're doing great work if you ask me.
The 2D sets that don't look great from other angles might not there forever anyway. What would we prefer, the STT billboard back?

What sticks out to me, is how realistic the 2D buildings appear on Photographs. All the 2D buildings in the states are obviously 2D on second glance, particularly in photographs. Is it just me, or maybe the weather and sky, but these look a lot more realistic, and harder to distingush between them and the 3D facades?

Yes, I agree. As the 2D backdrop was being built I actually thought it was 3D

Hilarious... I'm sure you'd be thrilled if someone stole your photos and didn't bother to mention you'd taken them. Show a little respect.
Why are you so dramatic?? Stole pictures??
Why ever put pictures on a forum, when you are afraid that someone else could steal your pictures....and beside that a bit of topic.
A bit childish reaction of you, but I will mention it in the future.
Everybody happy

Yes, I agree. Its beautiful and very realistic. But against the HTH I don't like the perspective of the bankbuilding and the HTH.

Yes, well done! I don't see what the problem was. We're only asking that you give a little credit to the people who spent time taking and uploading these photos for other DLRP fans.

They're definitely better than DCA's sets, aren't they? I think it must be the windows put in separately to the background, and all these nice extra signs on top. I'm beginning to really hope WDS gets a couple more street sets in the future, seeing what the Imagineers have learnt.
Not having the fake blue sky probably helps a lot.
Totaly! blue sky always looks fake, and against the Parisian sky... I know I should not be premature , I have the same reservation about the tunnel if it is surounded by a grass hill. wonder how that will translate to 2D? Oh, just thought, wonder what it will look like covered in snow? they dont have that issue in the US parks.

Winstonio, that's not how you talk to a moderator or administrator. Following the rules are part of participating on a message board. This is the final post about this subject, back on topic to Hollywood Blvd. :!:
I, too, think the 2D (or "2.5 D" ) buildings look pretty darn good in those latest pictures! They actually look quite believable.
And indeed, I don't even want to imagine the horror of a fake blue sky backdrop.

Hey it's very tall, isn't it? Don't forget the main backdrop is still to go behind this one, and should be about twice the size... :o
The detail on the tunnel is much better than I expected. I remember imagining this project like a series of cardboard cut-outs, it's turned out so much more "real"...
Wow, that looks awesomes, although it looks too close to the hotel, but thats probably just due to the angle the photo has been taken from.
I can't really see the details on the backdrop from the picture, but it's good to see that some of it has finally been added :D
I've uploaded a bunch of photos from yesterday here:
http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/v ... acemaking/ (http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/v/photo_reports/construction_photos/hollywood_placemaking/)
The backdrop looks pretty impressive, especially when you stand on Disney Brothers Plaza. You have this nice frame of buildings with the green hills on the back ground.

I still can't believe this is happening at our Studios...
More amazing photos Raptor, well done and thanks for sharing them :)
I usually don't like backdrops much, but I have to say, this one's looking pretty good so far :)
it does look fantastic, and so much different from when i went.
It was nothing except frames when i was there.
Sorry for asking... When is the Hollywood Boulevard placemaking is going to be finished? Is there any chance of being done by late November??
Ah you beat me, when are you going to be able to walk down it? it looks really good and I hope its open by November 26th. Dont think I can wait till next years visit.
Quote from: "RockNRoller"Ah you beat me, when are you going to be able to walk down it? it looks really good and I hope its open by November 26th. Dont think I can wait till next years visit.
I don't think it's gonna be open that date ... I think it goes along with the opening of ToT - but please correct me if I should be wrong.
Really hope you are wrong Flounder. Last year all we saw was construction work for TOT, Cars and Nemo. It would be nice to see it finished and be able to walk down that Boulevard late evening. Make up for the fact that i cant ride TOT till our next visit Nov 2008
Quote from: "RockNRoller"Ah you beat me, when are you going to be able to walk down it? it looks really good and I hope its open by November 26th. Dont think I can wait till next years visit.
If i remember correctly it will open in December with the TOT previews and soft opening.
It really does look impressive as Raptor has said! It looks huge and in real 3 dimensions from the front and once you're at the back you just cant believe it is so small and so flat in real life. This is 'Trompe l'oeil' at it's best! It's great and it's still getting better each day! oh and I noticed last sunday: in the front buildings: real windows! how good its that? They could've opted for fake ones just aswell.
Btw I think the opening will be together with the soft opening of ToT aswell; so during december, Greetings!
The backdrop is growing :)

I know I should wait until it is finished, and see it in person, but on photo's the Hollywood hills seem to let the area down to me. I was always a little worried how the greenery would look 2D, and with it being very straight edged and "blocked", on the photos so far, it doesnt quite look right to me. But hey, I should just wait until its all done!!!
It looks pretty good :) I think the backdrop could have been slightly bigger, but it'll do.
It looks great :)
I understand what you are saying about the Hollywood Boulevard, it looks really small. I suppose the photograph is just looking at it from an angle, it is all an illusion.....I can't wait to see it in person
Quote from: "RnRCj"It looks pretty good :) I think the backdrop could have been slightly bigger, but it'll do.
The problem here is that if they made it bigger, to look better against the Tower from this angle, the hills would look far too huge from Disney Bros Plaza.
The whole thing is looking great, my only concern is similar to penfold - it's a shame the hills will apparently cut off at the same width of the old STT billboard, rather than perhaps curve downwards either side.
Something nobody has mentioned (I only just noticed myself) - the new shelter for the tips board is in place already:
Great location for it, makes the area much busier. Kinda forces you to walk down the centre of the street too, so you get the proper effect.
Looks great !

which look absolutely great! oh yeah, and realistic!
Wow wow wow!! They make SUCH a difference to the placemaking, don't they? It's crazy when things like this are a luxury, but thank god the Imagineers know exactly what the park needs.
They're fake I guess, as expected? Nice and realistic, as WDI1992 says. Also, do they get smaller with each one, or is that my crazy eyes? :-s
Raptor explained to me that they are fake cause real ones wouldn't survive, only the kind of palmtree that is situated in the front lot can survive in degrees down to -20°! :P didn't I pay good attention!
I wonder too if they get smaller, the further away they are placed... It seems like the most logical since this would help the trompe l'oeuil effect. I think they do indd. Again wow they look great! they make it so much more real and add that extra touch... :D
Wow, those palmtrees look really good! Amazing! I also like the fact that the buildings on our Boulevard won't be exact copies of the US cousins. Look at our Sweet Succes building; its called Beverly Court.
Just great YUMMIE! I can't wait to go see them myself...i hope soon, very soon!!
Step by step it is growing to something bigger and better :D
Here I was thinking that this can't get any better, and they go and add PALM TREES!!! :D I love how they get smaller as they go along, and this is in our Studios :o
Now that is something special, I cant wait to walk down that Boulevard. I hope all the people who knocked the Studios are seeing this.
Lots of progress!!

real or plastic? didnt you say real ones wouldnt survive the paris weather?
They're fake
Wow they are brillant pictures thanks :D
At first i was a little worried that the boulevard would look cramped and not looking too well, but after those photos, it looks great :D
Wow! I go away for a day and I miss loads! This is looking absolutely amazing  The Imagineers hve really done an incredible job with this 8)
Wow, "the Hollywood that never was is finally here!" 8)
hehe very sneeky Rator  great pictures!
Great picture. What a difference day by day.
When somebody said it is impossible to plant real palmtrees it is wrong!
My employer Movie Park Germany has many palmtrees on Hollywood Boulevard and the new Santa Monica Pier and I can assure that they are real. Correct me if I am wrong, but the weather in Paris is not that different to that in the West of Germany :D
QuoteWhen somebody said it is impossible to plant real palmtrees it is wrong!
No I wasn't. DLRP has plenty of palm trees too in Adventureland, but that's a special kind that can survive up to -20°C. The big trees like the ones on the Boulevard can not survive in Paris.
Even in southern Spain they have to cover them up with fleece and/or straw to survive the winter and that wouldn't really look good on Hollywood Boulevard!
This is the palmtree I'm referring to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trachycarpus_fortunei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trachycarpus_fortunei)
You'll find it all over the resort: from Front Lot to Disney Village to Adventureland. It's basically the only palm they ever use!
I can't believe how good the boulevard is looking. I've been preparing to be a little disappointed with it, it's only a small area and "only" sets, but... it's impossible not to be crazy excited!
The trees, the art deco details on Gone Hollywood, original WDS names like Beverley Court, the detail on the Off the Page set, the real windows, the planters, the lovely tips board cover, the Studio Tram Tour sign (beautiful!!!!), the themeing on the back of the La Terrasse sets... the list goes on and on and on.
This photo is incredible:
//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/d/21560-3/DSC07947.JPG
The detail in the building behind, the palm trees, the nice stone wall, the shaped planter, and.... is there a curb there? (where the piece of wood is framing the concrete?)
It's hard to believe how much WDS has changed even since January.
Quote from: "Baloo"It's hard to believe how much WDS has changed even since January.
Cant believe it myself, I was there last November when the TOT was covered in scaffolding. I'll be back end of this November and cant wait to see it in the flesh. You´re posting in the wrong topic.
This can´t be our WDS. Anyone remember WDS about 18 months ago ?
Imagineering did one hell of a job. I just can´t wait to go.
Does anyone know when all the boards will come down? I am going to DLRP in the first week of December and it would be lovely to see all this work properly even if we can't go on TOT.
Wow  Im can't believe how good WDS looks now. It seems ages ago when just a few years ago you could even see ToT, let alone the boulevard, even thinking of when i was there in July it seems so different :D
Wow, this is really impressive :D
I didn't think it would look that good :o
Do the trees and lamps get progressivly smaller to aid with the forced perspective does anyone know?
Quote from: "penfold12"Do the trees and lamps get progressivly smaller to aid with the forced perspective does anyone know?
Yep, it sure looks like it! :)
I can't believe we get these lamps... the "Information" sign... the new names for each of the buildings..! Someone at Imagineering must really love WDS. I never expected it to be as "complete" as this, with all the little extras...
I wonder what they'll use the orange (Off the Page) building on the end for? It has a nice archway, so just as the entrance to La Terrasse, or could there be something inside? Since they've gone to so much trouble with all this, it'd be a shame to have the same old Studio Catering Co vans parked around there for La Terrasse.
The Beverley Court building is very large too, will they use the space for something, or will it be an empty shell? I don't expect anything major, but I read a rumour on DCP that a Pin Trading Station (like the cart at the end of Main Street) could be an option... :o
Lampposts, palm trees, curbs... Christmas really does start earlier each year!
I hope we get to see what design they chose for the billboard soon...
Here's a new pic from this evening...
Just speechless...
So much great adds to WDS, and come to think about it, this will mean that there will be still much more to come, they think it's worth it! :D
Can't wait to see all that splender with my own eyes, hopefully around december
any sign of the fences being removed yet :?:
would love to see more of it when we get there :?
No all the fences are still up. It did look so amazing! It just gets better everytime! I can't wait to see how it'll look like in 3 weeks when I go again! Wednesday and yesterday were such a surprise... The facades, the lighting, the trees! It already looked great a couple of weeks ago but yet again they managed to please me, it look so great... ohh wonderfull job imagineering! congrats!
3 weeks and counting... come on Disney get the fences down I want to see, pleeeeeeeeeease
Sorry if this has already been covered already but does anyone know if the new buildings in front of TOT are going to have internal lights as well as the lamposts outside?
Also is it just me or does anyone else think it's a shame that these wonderful looking buildings look so plain from the other side?
and finally does anyone know if there are plans to remove la terrese and replace with something more suitable, it looks terrible when seen from the TOT side
La Terrasse will stay. A large sign will be put on the side of one of the buildings to advertise it.

Now, can we have these through the whole park? I really hope they at least remove the parade route poles and lampposts making Disney Bros. Plaza look ugly now.

Great stuff! Hopefully they will change all the route poles and lampposts throughout the entire Production Courtyard. This is the perfect time to get one consistent theme and style throughout the area.
Let there be light!

Brilliant lampposts, so detailed. It actually feels really bizarre to see things like this in Walt Disney Studios, even though we've already got the cool twisty blue lamps in Toon Studio.

Great Photos, raptor !
Wow, raptor those pics are awesome, loving the one with the sun shining off the brand new lampost, nicely emphasises (sp?) that its brand new.
The lights looks great! What is this one at Los Feliz Hotel for? It looks a bit diffrent.
It's a lighting rig, it will light up the building. It's a more posh version of the ugly bare metal ones along the parade route.
Will there be speakers in this area, for parade/area music :?:

Cool thing! I just was so surprised cause it´s so high themed. But I´m very happy with it!
Quote from: "Riebi"I just was so surprised cause it´s so high themed.
That makes two of us!
For all my fanatical love for DLRP, the amount of effort and style going into this is still blowing me away. Look at those curving pieces of metal on the third floor balconies, all different types of street lights, and the detail on Gone Hollywood! Compared to the version in DCA, this one is much more "aged" and far less fake.
Yes we seem to get a great area! Not just a "Well done". All I´ve seen looks so great! I never expected that they could have the idea to theme there lighting rigs
I must now compare the pics of California Gone hollywood and ours.
P.S.: 14,5 millions! GO GO GO :stitch_bounce:
The Gone Hollywood of the WDS are thousand times bette than the one at DCA, in my opinion, i like the color scheme :) The whole area is awesome!
Does anyone got some pictures from the back of gone hollywood building?

Thanks for the photos Raptor! :D I have to say, those lampposts looks excellent!

I'm loving all this signage though, just makes it feel more exciting, more stuff to look at so it feels busier.
OMG It's perfect :D I love every single part of this project, highlight of my year
kinda made me ask if they should change the name. A French name in a hollywood themed area

All looking good....
I know this has been asked before, but as some time has past - anyone with that special insider knowledge got any news / rumour on when they expect to drop the walls and allow visitors to stroller up this avenue?.
Thanks
The amount of signage is a dream come true for us Disney freaks, this is exactly what a Disney park should have. Hopefully Beverley Court, Deluxe Talent Agency and Los Feliz Hotel will become as well known as the Main Street Gazette, Orbitz Dental Surgery, etc.
@penfold12: I might have said the same some time ago, but I think the La Terrasse name actually fits fine in a Hollywood area where they'd be wanting exotic and exciting names - cafés are often named in French just to make them sound more expensive or exclusive. Plus, with a sign as cool as that, I'm not going to argue one bit. :D
All this effort going into La Terrasse and the appearance of what look like poster boards for menus makes me wonder where they'll be serving food from...

La Roquine on DCP has said that the boulevard's walls will come down on the 17th of November to access the STT but you won't be able to access the building areas. The whole area should open on the 7th of December apart from the TOT, TOT Fastpass and La Terrasse
On other news, Disneytheque also have pictures of loads of new details and some interesting shots of behind the buildings:

You are all right about the French name! I think it is more because it was there before the theming that it made me question! All said and done, looking at the sign, as pointed out it looks like a French restaurant in Hollywood if that makes sense
You know what, I stand totaly corrected, after seeing those new photos against a blue sky, the terracotta of the walls and the highlighting of the new signs matching the lamposts....
Totaly fantastic!

Hmm strange :-k
My guess is its because of the two drain hole things becside the two trees.
 Quick ! Hide this photo, Baloo willl Cry !
But Wow, i really was expecting curbs !
Quote from: "Owain" Quick ! Hide this photo, Baloo willl Cry !
I already found out a few days ago... didn't want to mention it.
Complete disappointment. Huge mistake they'll live to regret. They were building this from scratch - a flat bit of land! How expensive would an extra layer of concrete have been? It just looks stupid all flat like that. It works in Disney Studio 1, but not here. It's a filmset, sure, but filmsets have curbs!! There go my dreams of dancing along the sidewalk like Gene Kelly... :(
It's made even more stupid by the fact that the Tower of Terror obviously
does have curbs around it. How's the La Terrasse side looking? No curbs either? I suppose it wouldn't match...
The tarmac running down the street looks horrible too, surely it can't be final!?
It's major, but still the only disappointment so far in this project, which is good. By this point with Toon Studio we'd had about ten...
Please don't call me stupid - what is/are curbs?!
I'm not very in this topic, didn't read all the posts and haven't seen all of the pics of the Hollywood Boulevard, but what is the disappointment now?!
The raised sidewalks/pavement at the side of a road:
Which apparently don't exist in the WDS' universe, leaving the entire park to be a flat field of concrete and tarmac.
Imagine Main Street without pavements, or Thunder Mesa without those raised wooden porches... Even Hollywood backlot in DCA has curbs!
Nala - the kerb is the step down from the pavement on to the road
I understand what you are saying but do feel it is great for people with prams and wheelchairs.
I don't know how many times I have had my pram jammed in the tram tracks in Disneyland Park and the kerb there are really high - when I go down one my kids nearly fall out their pram! I did like though, sitting at the kerb watching the parade.
There wouldn't be room to push a pram down there anyway, with all the trees and lamposts...
I know it seems like a strange thing to be disappointed about, but trust me - when you're there, walking down the street, you'll notice it massively. :(
But I don't understand it , there were curbs a couple days/weeks ago? Why would they demolish them :S
It looks like the step we saw in previous photos was just the gap for the Tarmac :(
Ah okay, thank you. I guess now I understand!
To be honest, I can't even imagine if "our" Hollywood Bld may look similar to the American one?! Isn't "ours" much, much smaller than the one of DCA? And aren't those buildings only fassades, or is it possible to buy something there?
I agree with you baloo, it look so flat and to be honest a little dull. The studios is all one level and even with perhaps a couple of inches worth of curbs, it would have made it feel a little more three-dimenional....
Not saying the massive backdrops and sets don't, but i'm sure some of you will understand what I mean.
Noooooooo :( I wanted curbs. Well we can't have everything
What?!?! No curbs?!?! Now it looks really wierd  Will there be curbs on the other side of the street?
hmm the side walk (path!) looks a little silly with it being so narrow as well. looks like they kinda messed up on their measurements.

Arno posted this on DCP. It's shows where the new lighting rigs on the Hollywood Blvd. originate from.
Haha! Well, a top choice of recycled lighting rigs if you ask me. With the situation in Hong Kong, I wouldn't be surprised if they were pulled up over there and sold to EDSCA. :P
The new lightning rigs look very nice and much better than the grey ones along the parade route do. I hope that all are going to be replaced with the new green ones.
Is the hong kong version the finished one?

Bloody hell, i dont no if its me but that side looks even worst !
It looks so silly. I mean the road just goes straight into pavement. You feel there should be some sort of curb there. And what was the point of starting to build curbs when they just filled them in?
I don't think you guys get it. These sets are supposed to show you how forced perspective is used in the movies to make sets look bigger than they are. With a curb, that is much much harder (and more dangerous for health and safety) to have a graduated curb, especially in such a small area. I am with Disney on this one, no need for curbs here.
I think that we are all disappointed that it is all just flat land, but look at the rest of it, how can anyone complain about this when you compare the attention to detail and theming in it to what the studios was like before it
Quote from: "The Butlin Boy"I think that we are all disappointed that it is all just flat land, but look at the rest of it, how can anyone complain about this when you compare the attention to detail and theming in it to what the studios was like before it
Exactly Butlin Boy i thought i was the only won who didn't care about the curbs, yes it would of been a nice extra but look at it, its unbelievable  I bet you won't even recongise that the curbs arn't there when its open.
Maybe they should take all the sets down, demolish Tower of Terror, board off Toon Studio again, and maybe then things are better?
Seriously now, a curb would have looked better, but let's face it, it's faaaar better than how it looked before. Just an open path ending at that hideous Tram Tour facade... So I can't wait to stroll down our very own mini-Hollywood Blvd.
please don't take tower down! im so close to getting my aunty to promise to go on it! (She hated the american one :p)
anyway, a curb is a curb, this time next year people wont notice, its an excuse for people to hurt them selfs, i have seen a few people hurt them selfs in the main park curbs
It's amazing how hard some people are looking to find something they don't like (or don't understand, see davewasbaloo's post) and go on and on about it...

Fresh update from WDSfans.com (//http://www.wdsfans.com)
Quote from: "WDSfans.com"The Franklin Department Store façade, located to the far right of the Boulevard, received some interesting decorations on the back. Since it's now enclosing the Art of Disney Animation queue, Imagineers opted to integrate the bare wall into the design of that Toon Studio attraction.
Several drawings from famous Disney characters (of which Mulan could be recognized from a distance) are now painted in the same style as on the Art of Disney attraction's own queue line!

Hey everyone,
I'm going to do an interview with Imagineer/Show Writer Laurent Cayuela about Hollywood Boulevard and the Tower of Terror.
If you have questions I may forward to him, feel free to send me a Private Message!
Cheers
Philharmagic
I'm really impressed by the details of the Hollywood Boulevard. Isn't this what we've dreamed of the past 5 years? I can't wait for an expansion once the Studio Tram Tour station will be moved. In the meantime I hope they won't forget the white stripes on the road, that would add some realism. Thats more of a worry to me then some curbs actually. I also hope that they will find a way to dress up the backside of the La Terrasse structure. Its quite ugly to be honest.
Did I mention that I adore the billboard?! It look so Disney-MGM Studios-ish. Maybe we can expect some more? A nice Silly Symphonies billboard near Art of Disney Animation and the Franklin Department Store facade to act like a transition? Or an advertisement for the Hollywood Tower Hotel, or a Coca Cola one? Maybe an aviator themed "Soarin' into the Future" billboard to give a clue to the fans like the HTH logo did on La Terrasse? Endless possibilties here.
Yes it´s really was a fast creation of the Boulevard. Do somebody know when it def. will open?
Quote from: "Maarten"In the meantime I hope they won't forget the white stripes on the road, that would add some realism. Thats more of a worry to me then some curbs actually.
Oh yes, I almost forgot! Maybe this is why the middle of the street looks so strange on photos we've seen? (Wider than it is long) Raised pavements aren't bothering me
too much since I noticed they're also flat around the Tower, at least it's consistent. I think Tokyo's also has flat pavements, only DCA's are raised. Must be a new Imagineering thing.
Quote from: "Maarten"I also hope that they will find a way to dress up the backside of the La Terrasse structure. Its quite ugly to be honest.
And that's putting it kindly... It looks like the kind of place you could be mugged, beaten and stabbed - right at the heart of a Disney park. But actually, I think that makes it wonderful. (stay with me here.. ) It really looks like the "dark side of Hollywood" they've been too scared to show at the other parks, perfect place for a run-down hotel.
The billboard is truly gorgeous, one of the best exterior details at the Studios, and I hear what you say Maarten about the MGM-Studios-ish-ness. Strangely (and I'm not trying to steal ideas here), I also thought about using the old Walt Disney Cartoons billboard on the roof of AODA to act like a blending between the two. They've been great a copying all these buildings right out of Hollywood, but this little gem is just waiting in their own archives...
The quality of finish on this is top-notch. So many details... did you notice the fire hydrant next to La Terrasse? The phone booth to the side of Los Feliz Hotel? And the new tips board! Not that giant metallic one moved, but a gorgeous 1950s design, really sets the time of the place (literally! ). Can't imagine what it looks like at nighttime...
Do we have a name for the Off the Page building yet?
I´m also ok at the moment with the area behind la terrasse. It could be a part of the hotel gardens one day and after some years they built a street through it. Not the best place but it´s the entrance to the former hollywood tower hotel. 8)
Don´t know the name of the of-the-page building. I´ve reading something about it but didn´t know where and what in fact

I no it isnt a big thing, but i wonder if the board will be electronic like the Disneyland Park one ?
Quote from: "Soap"Quote from: "Riebi"Now we know what imagineers are watching

That what I asked myself too!

It all looks so amazingly brilliant. My only concern is that the Hollywood Hills don't seem to be lit up, I guess they're still working on that bit :)
Yes , a lot of lights aren't working yet!
But the hills will light up because there are spots on the back of the 2d buildings.

WOW, those are great pictures, I got really excited about it when I saw them. Thanks for posting them Maarten :)
This just can't be WDS, it looks brillant! :D
And when i was last there it pretty much just the buildings.
That is brilliant! The pictures are a little dark, but I can still make out the great little details like the "Parallel Parking Only" sign :)
So many pictures at once ! :)
Looking great !
Quote from: "RnRCj"That is brilliant! The pictures are a little dark, but I can still make out the great little details like the "Parallel Parking Only" sign :)
Which reminds me of another detail - I've spotted at least 2 parking meters so far. :)
I wonder what will be in the windows of all these storefronts? The ones at DCA are a bit too modern and naff (like the park.. hehe), but do feature some nice Disney references.
You know, despite
all the details, one thing they're missing:

Great thing! looks incredable at night! And the details are amazing! It´s now so much real Disney in the park!
Looks excellent and atmospheric
Even the street lanterns and neons were on last weekend, it looked great, only a couple of neon signs still need to be fixed. The Tower itself looks great at night too btw, even the back, seen from Val d'Europe
I really have to post this photo... It's the real Hollywood Blvd in, well..., Hollywood!
Notice the curb!

The imagineers have been very accurate. :P
Well well, sometimes detail in themeing can also save money!
It's still a shame for the landscape of the Studios that it remains fairly flat and one-dimensional, but yeah - we can boast better accuracy than DCA or MGM.
PS: Can we get Stormtroopers walking around in WDS someday?
PPS: And a 'Disney Walk of Fame' (like those Disney Legends awards they do each year) would be awesome! A bit like the handprints near CineMagique but for 100% proper Disney stars. Having Walt at the end next to Mickey, pointing to their Hollywood soundstage, would then be even more perfect.
That´s a cool idea! Would be wonderful at the theater district. I´m not so much in this "hands" on the ground. But real disney stars can get me!
The stars would be a great add to WDS! The hands are already on a wall at DV, aren 't they ;) So new ones at the ground would be overkill?

There are already hands in wds too, at the place des stars  , I personally do not believe it would be overkill to have some more handprints, would be some more unique details :) .

What I love most about those windows (from several photos posted earlier) is seeing the reflection of Studio 1 in them, on a sunny day at least... About the only thing which proves to me this really is WDS we're seeing each day.
Also can't wait to sit on those benches and listen to the music... Maarten, I agree what you said a few pages back about Sunset Blvd loop here, and the more "floaty" and elegant Hollywood Blvd loop over in Theater District, that'd be perfect. They should also change Disney Bros Plaza to use the Sunset loop, rather than the Animation one.
Gnegne  But he? This one picture speaks a 1000 words :P
Thx Baloo (and scrooge) ;)
The "Boulevard" is really nicely done. (Managed to get a good view  )
Don't expect too much though. It's more a courtyard than a "boulevard". But the details are nice... and there's a lot to discover.
I guess this was already mentioned, but this will be not the 1930's and 1940's Hollywood like in Florida - our version is set in the 1950's to complement the story of the abandoned 1930's hotel next door.

Apart from the nasty mix of flat concrete and tarmac in different colours in the middle of the area (which does detract from the gorgeous buildings, unfortunately), it looks STUNNING. A small and compact area it might be, but wow - they've packed so much in.
http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/1569/1007981zb9.jpg (http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/1569/1007981zb9.jpg)

Beautiful tiled floor, lovely planter, gorgeous neons - this could be DLP/TDS quality!
Along with the fire hydrants, there are also newspaper vending machines and "Hollywood" trashcans! They've really tried to make it realistic:

Not quite a "department store" though... haha
 what can i say???? Absolutly stunning, even with bad weather!!! :D
I am amazed! It actually looks better than I thought it would be. Before I thought the area looked a little cramped but now the fences are down it looks great! Not too cramped and not too open :)
I think the best details are the props in the windows - They're the sort of details that WDS really needs! I also like the area around the information board - The plants and the details on the path and walls look absolutely incredible! The Imagineers really have done a fantastic job with this! :D
Now we've just got to wait for Tower Of Terror :D
Detailed, spacious, well themed, beautiful, Disney! Now we're talking.
I actually can't think of many words to describe it, I'll just use :o  :D
WOW  That looks unblievable, they've certainly done a great job making it :D
Went to the Studios today - and that park has changed so much with the opening of Hollywood "Boulevard".
I didn't spend too much time there, though. Weather was really nasty all day long... But they had "All the Way" as background music - so due to that, this area now has to be one of my top three spots in the whole resort.
It looks really good, but I think this is my favorite part of it:
This is that kind of part where you know there are always new details to discover! Like in the Disneyland Park
Beautiful window! Reminds me of Liberty Arcade... I can't believe I can now say that about something in Walt Disney Studios.
Something that's hurting my brain from the photos - it looks like go down a few steps to this area behind the large planter, and also into the La Terrasse area... so what's going on there? Did they dig downwards in the La Terrasse courtyard, or does the ground slope upwards towards those steps, to give the illusion? It's fantastic for the Studios...
Experiment - I have to admit I didn't know "All the Way", but as a Sinatra song from the '50s the loop must be new for WDS?! It sounds lovely on YouTube (//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9OE60jdRaM)... 8)
What a magical picture!!! It has indeed that DLP kinda of quality, just like the arcades. Put that Frank Sinatra music under it and men....can sit there all day!

and here I was thinking I was misreading things :P
maybe it is a foreign talent agency;)
Oh yeah, I never even thought why there were travel related things in the window! But errr... Butlin Boy, I doubt the Imagineers would make a mistake like that when they spend months planning these things.
I guess Deluxe Talent & Deluxe Travel are just two parts of the same company. A shop window for a talent agency wouldn't be as much fun. Take a look at the first destination of the travel company:
(Glendale, Imagineering's HQ, for those that don't know) Just awesome, classic, Disney detail. The windows of Franklin Department Store aren't that exciting though.
Did you notice they've put the old tips board in front of the new one? From pictures, it looks like the new one is electronic, the attractions are spaced out in threes like they are in DLP:

Who said that this was a mistake...?
Does anyone have any idea of the budget behind the Boulevard?
It just seems to me that it would be a fraction of a new attraction, and yet adds as much to the park as a new attraction. Just imagine how the whole area will look when the placemaking is finished in the proposed theatre district!
It gives the park a totaly different feel. Just think back to this time last year, open plan cold concrete, then the heavy theming of Cars and Raidator Springs, the kentic energy added by Crush, and now this....
Way to go Imagineering

It's looking VERY good :) This area is going to have tables isn't it? I guess they just haven't been put in yet...
Its amazing that the Imagineers have payed close attention to the old details of the park, so that they could blend in the new area so well. For example, look at the new palm tree planter, which has the same form as the basin of the Fantasia Fountain at Frontlot:

I don't think so. It supposed to look like a film set, so that's why they've got the all the metal stuff showing on the back. If they did grow though it would look a bit odd because if you viewed the backdrop from the front there would some random trees popping out the top
What's wrong with the metal backs in the first place? :) The ones in Florida are a lot uglier.
Quote from: "raptor1982"What's wrong with the metal backs in the first place? :) The ones in Florida are a lot uglier.
I have to agree with you here, they do not look very good in florida,as a side note do you think they will intorduce a smaller version of the osborne lights?,sorry if this has been discussed before
Quote from: "Haz"as a side note do you think they will intorduce a smaller version of the osborne lights?
Well I'm certain that there won't be any this year but it would be so cool to have some next year, and I wouldn't put it past them not to do it either :)
I really hope not, in my humble opinion they look tacky at night and absolutely hideous by day.
Something more restrained like the lights inside Studio 1 would be great though. They could start by wrapping lights around the palm trees... Although, I suppose it depends how much they want to stick with the 1950s theme, because then it'd have to be far more traditional.
I simply can't believe those details like the "Hollywood" in the metal grates around the trees. The small planters with trees and bushes at the corner of each facade are great too, really add depth to what could have been a very 2-D area. Remember a few months back we completely expected the back of the sets around La Terrasse to be bare steel like the Hollywood hills? You could almost say they're spoiling us now.
if they decorate the trees like DTD in california that would do for me next year
Blue-ish filters have been added to lights on the 2D buildings:

http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/m ... emId=19755 (http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=19755)
i was told at college that adding "tints" to building like that adds a sense of depth to a scene and puts more attention on the closer buildings (ToT) disney tend to force perspective alot :P
all though... i would probs pay more attention to the giant hotel just to the left :P
Yeah, it definitely separates the background of the scene from the foreground. The lights on the vertical signs of the background buildings also stand out more now. I was never sure if they were actually illuminated before, but yes - of course they are. :)
The forced perspective of the street looked a bit more real in the original shot (which was in the last Photos Magiques newsletter as a wallpaper), but this is very stage-y and dramatic. Very pretty.
Looks like a HTH-shadow lay over this region now. Like it.
I really think this colour change workd wonders. It pushes the 3d buildings to the fore, and also highlights the Tower and the 2d facades. A really good move. My only critisism about the area.....
The Hollywood Hills. I always worried what the facade of the hills would look like 2d as it is a totaly different texture that brick work, and I feared would look extremly fake. During the day light its not so bad, but looking at that picture, it kinda backs up my worry. The white light highlights the fact that its a 2d backdrop
This is a long exposure photo, which brings out the the light a lot harder then it actually is. It looks a lot more natural on the hills then on this photo.
Oh, the moon is real, in case anyone was wondering.
Raptor, I have to say, that is a fantastic photo! It captures the atmosphere of the area really well  I really like the new blue light filter. It looks so much better than just plain white :)
Ah I see Raptor, yep that makes sense thinking of all my didgey holiday photos! lol. Now it makes sense as to comments made regarding the 2d building looking flat after the area intitally opened. I suppose the difference between the 3d and 2d buildings can only be commented on in real life. The 2d sections are not so photogenic after dark as no shadows are cast on it from the building shape when its lit up.
Regarding the music, I heard some recognizable songs like slower versions of When you wish upon a Star and Somewhere over the rainbow and an upbeat, jazzier version of Zip-a-dee-doo-dah. :)

I love the music in that area of the park and cannot wait for a sunny day sitting at La Terrasse... just to listen to the music... :)
And is this the final loop? Or just a short test like at toon studio?
Great News Yall!!! More light pylons are being removed, this time one to the left of the Partners Statue, which is already completely gone!
Well, Merry Christmas one and all! :) :) Hopefully both the silver and smaller blue lights will eventually go...
Disney Bros. Plaza would be brilliant with the same lights, benches, etc as Hollywood.

One can only hope... but they still should do something about the plaza's paving...
(And secretly, I'm still hoping for a small nod to Roy... like a replica of that nice statue from the Magic Kingdom's Town Square...)

Excellent idea. The Roy Disney with Minnie Mouse statue would compliment the current Partners Statue very well and it would make the Disney Bros. Plaza name more appropriate. Its also great to hear they are finally coming to their senses by removing those hidious lampposts. Hopefully they will get rid of them in the whole of Production Courtyard. Only the lampposts at Backlot seem like a natural fit. :)
Disney Central Plaza member "Yao" has seen the new tipboard in operation today. He says that the screens behind the entertainment offerings do not just show the hours, but also short clips from that particular show. :D =D>

Wow, that sounds awesome :)
Sorry to double post, but Kyoto on DMI has got some images of the working tipboards in which you can just about make out the clips that Raptor has described:

The park has also added a slightly TOT themed catering van, I assume it's sponsored by Fanta  :

when you say light pylons, do you mean the scaffolding type lights that are along the parade route?
penfold12: yes, those ugly things.
Kool Zone: :-s
Yes , the tip board is very cool! It's really nice. Displaying all the restaurants opening times and showmovies
It's very cool indeed... Hope they add the clock mechanism at the top soon though ;)-
The tips board is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. So stylish and smart, and very clever with the LCD times displays and video clips. Whoever does all this technical stuff behind the scenes at DLRP deserves a lot of credit. Spending so much on getting such a polished piece of theming at the heart of the park, for something every single guest will look at, does it a lot of favours. Hope the clock is finished asap.
You know, it looks as though the Studios now has a heart. Here's a recent photo showing the panorama with the steel lightpole to the left of Walt removed, covered with plants for now:

*Hopefully* they've got a few more parade rigs like the ones on the opposite side waiting backstage... [-o<

:o WOW, that photo is amazing, it perfectly sums up everything that this area has become :)
This area really feels like the heart of the park! :) It's I bit strange but I feld that the other attractions make much more sense now.
WOW  Absolutly stunning picture....
Showed i to my mom, this is what she said: "Wow, that looks great, i love to go to WDW someday...." "Well uhhh...mom...this is in Paris"
She's has been to DLRP over a 80 times....whahahha...so it must make a difference right :)
That is a great picture
It really sums up the massive difference thats been made in WDS, 2007 has been a year of change for WDS and it looks like 2008 will be a good year for WDS.
FYI: the background music that is being used is apparently the same as the one for Hollywood Boulevard at Walt Disney World...
Would like to see some new photos soon. Have all the walls been removed? Is the pin shop in operation?

Ta-daa!!! It took its time, but now we really do have Hollywood Blvd. :D
Does this mean The HTH is located on Vine Street?
I've posted a video tour of the Boulevard on WDSfans earlier. Here it is for those who haven't seen it yet: :)
[dailymotion:3ntlnvy3]x47xwn[/dailymotion:3ntlnvy3]
thanks raptor, when we went at the end of november the boulevard was still boarded shut so i just had to have a look at our photos so i can get an idea where the buildings are as when i look at it now it dosent look like the WDS as i remenbered it, thanks again and love the music you put it to
I'm still in awe at how good this turned out. Remember when we were discussing whether you'd be able to see the "bare steel" on the back of the La Terrasse facades from the Tower? :o
The steps down through the set into La Terrasse are a great idea, this area has real depth.
And even though the Kool Zone is a little bit hideous (seriously Coca-Cola, STOP using the word "cool" for your locations! Even with a different spelling!!), it at least adds some 1950s placemaking now:

What do you think will happen when the boulevard is eventually extended, does anyone think the national bank & felix hotel set buildings along with the tunnel backdrop are only temporary and will be removed to make way for the extension, and does this just show that this wont happen for years to come?
(ooops hope that made some sense.)

Yes and yes! Well, I think so anyway. The other sets aren't built to any kind of forced perspective like those backdrops, so when they're ready, it'll be really easy to built it into a full boulevard.
Having said that, another option could be to leave them there and have that as the end of the Hollywood area, so stepping through the tunnel would take you to a completely different land. Although again... the hills are tied to the Studio Tram Tour station anyway, so maybe they'll go when it goes.
Good fun to speculate anyway. :)
They are still adding to the boulevard:

Wow! Cool and necessary! This backfront looked a bit boring! What a bit of additional paint can doooo! Like it now much! Thanks for sharing!
Oh awesome!! Beautiful design. :D
One thing that should be done however -- that gate behind ToT on the route to Backlot, why doesn't it get the same HTH mural as the gate next to the ToT in DCA? It seems like strange missed opportunity.
I think I saw that girl painting when I was there, except she was in the exit hallway of Tower Of Terror.

They ran out of money!
The gate at DCA looks pretty indeed. Perhaps this is also a future addition? As long as the Tram Tour station can move, the area around Tower of Terror could still change a lot in the future.

Does anybody have a photo of this at DCA compared to our tot?
Try Flickr (//http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=california+adventure+tower&page=6) - can't find a photo yet so far.
Funnily enough the only photo I've found so far is of the gate on the other side of the DCA Tower, which is the same as the bare one at WDS: http://www.flickr.com/photos/amityville ... r/9746644/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/amityville_toaster/9746644/)
It's a nice enough gate though, I have to say. They'd be better spending money on the horrible Backlot and Toon Studio parade entrances.
This may be late news but joels photo report from april 8 reports La Terrasse Perrier is open :)

It is really lovely there :) Although the drinks are slightly odd mixes hehe.
The drinks are brilliant and a real surprise to find at a quick service place inside one of the parks. I only hope it's a huge success and they expand the concept. The branding and logos on the van are also brilliant, compared to the boring Catering Co or unnecessarily ugly Kool Zone. It really adds a LOT to the park.
Photos Magiques featured the van in its update about 3 weeks ago but no-one posted here so I'll let you off. :P
Looks great to me, I really like the colours. Is Perrier a type of sparkling water?
The van looks great in this la terrasse area! Fits very well! =D>
Perrier is THE french sparkling mineral water. You can read more about it:

So here's an update on the Hollywood Blvd. The 2D backdrops at the end of the Blvd. (and the Tram Station) are designed to be taken apart so they can be make way for an extension of the Blvd. with actual shops and restaurants inside, according to several members on DCP and confirmed by La Roquine.

Excellent!!
I love what they've done, it looks brilliant! Looking forward to future extensions...
Sounds great! Seems that there will happen a lot at the studios after this big success of TOT and Toon Studios! :D/

Sounds good and hopely it could make the way for the Studios first ever table service restaurant later down the line. But I guess the demand needs to be there first!

Sounds good to me, it'll be very interesting to see how this and other rumored expansion and placemaking projects turn out in the next few years :)
I've never noticed this before - an extra piece of the Hollywood backdrops, hiding backstage at the Studios:

Seems to be the right end of this piece:

Good grief !!! Well spotted I would never have got that !!!
New Ice Cream location next to Pin Trading opens soon.
Quote from: "phantom247"New Ice Cream location next to Pin Trading opens soon.
Will this be a cart or an actual store inside the Franklin Department Store facade ?
It would be cool if this new addition would serve the popular dole whip ice cream from the american parks, as didnt dlrp introduce dole a year or 2 ?
An ice cream location in WDS? Whatever next?! Brilliant news.
I'd always thought the empty space inside Beverley Court would be the perfect size for a slightly smaller version of Fantasia Gelati though, so now I'm wondering the same as Owain, does this mean one of the windows of Franklin Dept. Store has gone?
Yes! So that's what it is! They had closed up the window next to the Pin Trading shop, we saw it on Monday
hope they theme it right

I'll actually be sad to see that window go, it was afterall one of very very few proper period placemaking pieces (pppp?) in the whole park. I wonder if there's enough space for the new location to have a strong 50s vibe?

I suppose it's a nice addition to the Studios, I mean, it's not a huge new restaurant or anything, but it looks like a great little stall. Not only is themed well as well, but it adds a bit more variety to the Studios too
I could really do with some ice cream now :P
Hmmm, that's actually not looking bad at all. Note how they changed the letters "GIFTS" into the more appropriate, if nonsensical "FINE FOODS."
Makes me wish even more that they would expand this little boulevard...
A very nice but small addition. :) Reminds me a lot of the candyfloss counter in Main Street.
Looks great! and I agree with pussinboots, i really hope they expand this area, it deserves it, little touches like this would really make it come alive!
Agreed that they should make the most out of the boulevard. One thing though, i think i'd be better if they moved the Pin Trading down to "Souvenirs" rather than "Fashion", just in my opinion i don't see them as an iteam of clothing :P
Coming next: the lobby of Tower of Terror is cleared out by Food & Beverages to become a hot dog stand.
Quote from: "Anthony"Coming next: the lobby of Tower of Terror is cleared out by Food & Beverages to become a hot dog stand.
Ah yes, the Tower of Wiener, coupled by Concierge Condiments and the Suite Suite Soda Shoppe. I'm telling you, the Disney's California Adventure people would have had a field day with that one.
I last went to WDS when they were building this. Are they buildings you can actually walk into that have shops and restaurants like on Main Street or are they just giant billboards?
They are giant billboard types, at the rear and semi real buildings at the front, like half width buildings, were the icecream has been opened is they add the building to the back of the entrance.
Ps has anyone noticed the peeling back of the rear buildings vinyle print
Quote from: "seanmartina"Ps has anyone noticed the peeling back of the rear buildings vinyle print
Yes! And they are a bit "green" now. Hope they fix it till next year.
