Original Post

The new edition of the Annual Passport magazine, "Envie de +", includes a sneaky hint at a new Winnie the Pooh show currently being worked on for Disneyland.  The show will be performed at Fantasy Festival Stage, confirming rumours from last year that Pooh Bear might make a move from the Royal Castle Stage to the smaller, but indoor venue (which was recently extensively refurbished, probably in anticipation of the new adapted show's arrival).

The confirmation comes from Katy Harris, who is interviewed in Envie de + about her work on the choreography for the upcoming return of the Kids Carnival season.  She mentions that she is also working on auditions for The Legend Of The Lion King (which take place several times a year, as previous cast members move on and new performers are introduced) and an adaptation of the popular summer show "Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Too".

It seems likely that when the new show premieres, it will be a year-round entertainment feature.  Previous rumours even suggested that the show could get Halloween, Christmas or Easter overlays to allow it to be used as a key feature of these seasons, but none of this has been confirmed yet!

It seems likely the show will premiere this year, so now we also need to ask - what will replace it on the Royal Castle Stage?  :D

Is it good to see Winnie the Pooh moving, or should he stay where he is?  The Royal Castle Stage is open and exciting, and there's a lot of seating - could the Fantasy Festival Stage be too small for Winnie's popularity?  :?

I heard about this too during the summer, from friends who were in the cast for the summer season just gone, and they said that the show was going to be moved to festival stage, with animatronic characters plus winnie etc.

Animatronics like in puppets (as the previous Winnie show and Legend of the Lion King) or as in electronic machines (as in Pirates...)?  :?:
Title:
Post by: babybert on January 06, 2006, 09:23:21 PM
I think both, like gopher is puppet, but owl is animatronic. But im not too sure, but apparently theres going to be dancers instead of just the characters, but that was a theory!

According to DLRP.fr, the new show will be called: Winnie the Pooh and the Rainy Day.

They also claim that the whole stage, except for the seating area will be demolished and replaced by some decorations...  :?

Demolised Demolised  , how can they demolish such a wonderful looking stage, it's really nice and deserves to gain a new show on it after Winniw The Pooh.  Why not bring on Le Livre Magique De Mickey Mission 2 on it or something, even bringing back an old show would be a nice idea, even if certain people would not agree  .

Oh well, first see then believe... That site is becoming a new false rumour mill...  I think they will demolish the Pooh decorations, rather then the whole stage.

That's what I assumed too.  I bet this year they just have it as a meet 'n' greet (maybe a dedicated one for the Princesses?), and then perhaps get a new show on there for the 15th Anniversary in 2007?

The stage is even better without the Winnie the Pooh decorations - if you watch the Euro Disney Grand Opening, you can see that it was clearly designed with the idea of giving you a great view of the castle through the gap in the columns at the back...

Oh yes, Baloo! That's what I'm saying for a long time...  Pooh doesn't belong on that stage, the princesses do!  A meet 'n greet location for the princesses seems quite logical, since they always have big queues in front of the castle when they're doing sets.

And it works the other way round too - the Fantasy Festival Stage is just perfect for Winnie the Pooh - it's in the "British section" of Fantasyland, and the themeing fits much better.

I think one of the main reasons for moving the show is certainly so that they can either run it all year round or for most of the year, so there is a strong possibility that the show could be running during Christmas/Halloween, etc.  Whether they'll change the storyline of the show or anything for each season remains to be seen, but I think it'd be a great idea.  A nice way to get more "Disney" back into the Halloween festival too...

Some news from the ultra-reliable   DLP.info forum:

Quote from: "Mr Entertainment"Official sources within entertainment confirmed today that "Winnie The Pooh" will be opening in JULY 2006 inside the Fantasyland Stage Theatre.
The décor of the stage will be reduced in size, due to the size of the stage.
As for the show itself, the storyline will contain minor changes, but will remain very close to the current script.

What is interesting with this brand new concept, is that the guests will NOT enter a THEATRE, but directly into the Hundred Acre Wood.
The entire interior of the auditorium will be transformed into the Hundred Acre Wood, with various statues and situations taken from the many tales of our friendly bear positioned around the theatre for photo opportunities.

Opening in July 2006, this will correspond with the HIGH Season 2006.

According to official dates given to travel agents, "Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Too" will be performed from 14th July to 28th August 2006.  So that's only during the high season Summer Magic...  :?

I'll let you know if these dates are updated...  :?

DLRP.fr reports that the show will run from 1st July to 3rd September 2006.  Whether you want to believe that is up to you.

http://www.dlrp.fr/actularge.php?id=373 (http://www.dlrp.fr/actularge.php?id=373)

They are quite believable dates, but then I would find it strange that they end the show on September 3rd after they've spent money redesigning it for a different, indoor stage.  I had hoped it would become an almost year-round show.

Maybe it takes like a month or so to transform everything in a Halloween Pooh show.  :?:

According to the Event Schedule: http://www.disneylandparis.com/uk/news/ ... /index.htm (http://www.disneylandparis.com/uk/news/calendar/index.htm) , Winnie will only be on stage from 14th July to 27th August, so do you think the show is really moving?  I don't think it will be.  It they're moving it to Fantasy Festival Stage, then it'd be on for longer than just the plain summer season, surely?

If they're going to move it, it would make most sense to do it next year, when (for the 15th Anniversary), there's rumours of a new show for Royal Castle Stage...

Any thoughts?
Title:
Post by: Anthony on March 18, 2006, 03:19:02 PM
Well, the show IS definitely moving:

Quote from: "raptor1982"All my EPC friends (and I have several  ) have all confirmed that the show IS moving. It will run this summer and will propably return for Halloween with a Halloween lay-over.

If the show's a success, they'll concider it running all year long.

The show will be updated with new songs from the latest movie, but the style (narated by Christopher Robbins) will be the same as Winnie the Pooh and Friends too.

Yes, it's moving and will start half July

Official message from Disneyland Resort Paris to Travel Agencies:

QuoteWinnie the Pooh and Friends communications

Effective immediately, please do not use 'Winnie the Pooh and Friends Too' Show (logo, copy, visual or copy reference to the show) in your advertising material as all reference to 'Winnie the Pooh and Friends Too' is now restricted to park map use only.

That's weird, don't you think?  Are they trying to save money with the royalties or something?
Title:
Post by: flor on April 13, 2006, 04:17:40 PM
Reasons: People link Disneyland too much to Winnie. There's a lot more to discover next to him.

Really strange promotion tactic (if DLRP actualy has one these days). The show is obviouly nothing to get excited about as it is not designed to attract new guests. What is its purpose now?

I welcome the change of location and seasonal versions of the performance, but why are they going to all this effort? I hope they add a big Winnie sign to the Fantasy Festival Stage anyhow - similar to LOTLK. It would tie the show into the land better, in my opinion.

I think the show will fit great already - it's in the British area of the land and they just added those props for the photo location next to the theatre a few weeks ago, so it already feels very much like a Winnie the Pooh area.

I agree some kind of larger sign would be quite nice though, if a bit pointless - the show is going to be busy enough as it is: 375 seats + the winnie the pooh name = problems!

Has there been any news about the show recently?
Title:
Post by: Anthony on April 28, 2006, 11:49:51 PM
No, they seem to be keeping it all hush-hush so that our attention isn't diverted away from Buzz!

I guess they're designing the show still... they wouldn't start rehearsals yet, would they?  I doubt they've got much/any scenery at Fantasy Festival Stage yet, there's ages to go before the new season starts...

Well, the sets on the Royal Castle Stage are gone...

http://www.dlrp.fr/actularge.php?id=635 (http://www.dlrp.fr/actularge.php?id=635)

You can see the stage as the Imagineers intended it now, with that AWESOME view of the castle!  I hope the Magic Music Days or some Princess meet n greets make good use of it this Summer...

And the Fantasy Festival Stage has construction walls all around the outside (again!).  But why, I wonder?  They just refurbished the theatre last year, and you don't need construction walls to put up a poster.  Maybe they're putting in a queue line, or some Winnie the Pooh themeing?
Title:
Post by: Dlrpfan on June 04, 2006, 02:33:34 PM
that view looks soo great! i hope they do put maybe a sighn or theming outside the fantasyland theater
Title:
Post by: Anthony on June 04, 2006, 02:40:22 PM
Maybe just something simple like they have for the Disneyland attraction?

DLRP beat them with the themeing on the Monsters Inc photo location vs. their attraction exterior (IMO!), so it's possible...

Quote from: "Baloo"Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Too - scheduled to run from 11th November 2006!  :D

They can play it 12 months a year now right? By the way, is the show still called Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Too? I thought that it would get a slightly different name and some small changes when it comes to the story. Otherwise they can't present it as a "new" show...

Well, I'm glad for the little ones and the other Pooh fans that this show will play such long seasons. Disneyland Resort Paris is the Resort without an attraction based on Pooh. Maybe it would be smart to build a darkride someday, including a gifshop? I guess it would be extremely popular.

I saw some fan imagineering where they put that Winnie sign on the front of the Fantasy Festival Stage and it looked just perfect. Hope it happens! It's a shame that the show wont be shown all year round, but obviously proves Winnie will be the new xmas show for 2006 (at least I hope it has some festive theming). So glad that stage is being used for something again!

I do feel the Royal Castle Stage looks bare without stuff on it. Le Livre Magique de Mickey had a nice compromise with the storybook idea that didn't cover the whole view, but matched that browny/bronze style of the rest of the stage. If the stage is used for a big photolocation this year, I'd ideally like to see some kind of probs on there to make it complete (although all that seating will look quite random!). About the rehab, I heard that under the stage was still rotting, but you say it all got re-done last year, so I haven't a clue why the boards are still up. Maybe they're preparing something else for us?

Title:

My guess is that's the days the cast gets off performing the show.  Seems to be happening a lot in Disneyland Resort Paris lately.
Title:
Post by: Anthony on June 19, 2006, 07:52:19 PM
Yeah, they do the same for Lilo & Stitch and Cruella.  I think it means they only need 1 (or fewer, at least) set(s) of main performers for the show.  If they ran the show every day then they'd need at least 2 casts, since everyone needs a day off.

So just a cost-saving measure for the smaller shows really.  Since they have so much entertainment on at the moment I'm not complaining.  :)

I got some more information from a source at DLRP.  The stage will look similar to the one that was on Castle Stage.  Christopher Robinson will be on the far right of the stage telling the story and will not be directly involved in the story.
And one more thing: our good friend Vasile Sirli has written a brand new song for this show!

I got informed that the new song composed by Vasile Sirli will be released on cd.  A friend described it as a cross between Dancin' and Chante c'est Noel (MSEP version) sung by Piglet.  :?

A piglet song, lol. In French or English? So I'm guessing it will be a cd-single.

I like the old show title more, it was a bit more catchy. Nothing wrong with Grand Adventure though.

Maybe you expected too much?  I was expecting very little, so this is a pleasant surprise!  It's hard to see much from those photos, but I like the backdrops, and the lighting and smoke effects in some of the scenes looks quite good.

I like how the stage backdrop continues halfway along the side walls of the theatre though, that's cool...

Oh, and the official show name is still "Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Too", according to the sign outside.

I am really impressed with this show. Not that it is that great, but as far as I can judge from a video, it seems that the 100 Acre Wood set looks really nice, just like some small effects and some funny songs too. A nice surprise in 2006 indeed.

Just one question; why did they move a show of one of the most popular Disney-characters to a stage that has such a low cappacity? Haven't they learned from their Legend of the Lion King mistake?

If I am right , the christmas version of the show was due to begin yesterday, does anyone have any news on this? :?

Edit: I just found this on Disney Magic Interactive (sorry about the translator)

QuoteWinnie the Bear cub returns as of saturday in Fantasy Festival Training course in his version of Christmas.
The spectacle at summer tested near the castmembers yesterday, and would thus remain similar to that of this summer, if these are not the decorations which exchanges, and the addition of "Jingle Bells" at the end of the show. However, the spectacle is entirely thématisé goshawks of Christmas and the Father Christmas!
Another information, the three Jean Christophe would be thus the same one as this summer (of which Tom of the Art of Animation and Cinémagique amongst other things). The show will be well the every day contrary at this summer until the end of the season of Christmas. It is all that I know for the moment.
