Title: Enchanted (2007)
Post by: Kristof on January 14, 2006, 11:14:03 AM
From http://www.mickeynews.com (http://www.mickeynews.com)

Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon will star as a wicked queen intent on destroying true love in "Enchanted," a Walt Disney Pictures fairy tale that will blend animation and live action.
Sarandon has signed on to play Queen Narissa opposite a star-crossed princess (Amy Adams of "Junebug") and prince (James Marsden).

The story centers on a princess-in-waiting who is banished from a classical animation world by a vainglorious queen and dumped into a modern-day, live-action Manhattan.

Sarandon's role calls for her to demonstrate versatility in various media forms. Her transformations for traditional toon sequences are being created by Disney animator James Baxter, best known for his supervision of the character Belle in 1991's "Beauty and the Beast." Sarandon's likeness also is being re-envisioned by Oscar-winning makeup effects artist Rick Baker. The actress recently attended prosthetic modeling sessions at Baker's Cinovation Studios.

"Enchanted" begins production in April, with Sarandon expected to begin working in May. Kevin Lima directs.

Sarandon next appears in New Line Cinema's "Mr. Woodcock" and as heiress Doris Duke in Bob Balaban's upcoming "Doris and Bernard" opposite Ralph Fiennes. She most recently starred in John Turturro's "Romance & Cigarettes."

I like the idea behind this film, it sounds cool.  It's nice that the characters go from an animated world to a live-action one for a change, instead of the other way around (like Mary Poppins, etc.).

I hope Disney pull it off!  What kind of animation will this film use?  It says there "classically animated" - does that mean traditional, hand-drawn animation?  :o I was expecting CGI...

Welcome back Alan!!

Quote from: "Mickeynews.com"Eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) has signed a non-exclusive, multi-picture deal with Walt Disney/Touchstone Pictures to score non-animated films and compose for live-action projects, it was announced today by Mitchell Leib, President of music and soundtracks for Walt Disney Pictures & Television/Buena Vista Music Group. For his first assignment under this new deal, Menken will score as well as write five original songs for Walt Disney Pictures' upcoming romantic musical-fantasy, Enchanted, which is being directed by Kevin Lima (Tarzan, 102 Dalmatians). For that project, Menken will reunite with Tony and Oscar-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz, his collaborator on Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Menken recently completed scoring Disney's upcoming live-action comedy, The Shaggy Dog, due in theaters on March 10th.
Under the terms of this new arrangement, Menken is expanding his role from within other divisions of The Walt Disney Company. For Disney Theatrical Productions, he is currently in preproduction on the stage version of "The Little Mermaid." Menken is also developing a new animated musical, The Frog Princess for Walt Disney Feature Animation. For Disney Creative Entertainment, he is creating a stage musical of "The Snow Queen" set to debut at Tokyo DisneySea with Amon Miyamoto directing and John Weidman as the bookwriter and Glen Slater the lyricist. He is also writing music for a Sinbad attraction in Japan for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Menken's current slate of projects also includes composing an original score for the stage musical adaptation of "Sister Act" (based on the hit Touchstone Pictures' film) premiering this October at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Commenting on Menken's new expanded role, Leib said, "Alan is one of the greatest music composers and songwriters of all time, bar none. There is simply no one like him. The only reason he hasn't done more work for us in live-action to date is because the rest of Disney keeps him so busy working on animated films, theatrical stage plays, and theme park attractions. I feel very fortunate to now have him working on our live action films too."

Chris Montan, president of Walt Disney Music, added, "Alan became part of our world with 'The Little Mermaid' and has been making beautiful music for us ever since. He was an important part of our animation renaissance here at Disney and continues to be one of the most exciting, original, and prolific composer/songwriters of our times. We're thrilled to be working with him on such a wide variety of projects, and look forward to seeing him stretch his talents in new and innovative ways."

Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, said, "Everyone is familiar with Alan's incredible talents when it comes to writing songs for animated projects and theatrical productions, but he is also a great film composer in his own right. He has written a terrific score for 'The Shaggy Dog' and has expressed interest in writing music for other live-action films. Alan is a true Disney legend, and his music has enriched so many of our films."

Menken is best known for his hit animated musicals including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beauty and the Beast as well as the stage version on the latter which has the distinction of being the longest running American musical. Menken is also known for the stage and film version of Little Shop of Horrors

Well it's great to hear Alan's back, he is such a great musician, really quite amazing how much he is coimposing for Disney, this movie sounds like it could be great if he is composing the soundtrack :D .  Plus what's that I hear a Little mermaid musical, always thought that could be transformed into a great stage show, hopefully it will be great like beauty and the beast and the less beautiful in my mind, but still extremely popular Lion King

Woooooo! Alan Menken!!! *continues cheering*  Get Disney a few more music Oscars, Alan, please!

Also, it hasn't been mentioned in this topic yet that the animated parts of Enchanted will be TRADITIONALLY ANIMATED!!  :o Not by Disney, but by a really small seperate studio (there's info about it on JimHillMedia.com somewhere).

This is shaping up to be a brilliant film...  I hope they don't mess it up!

It's James Baxter's company that's doing the animation.  He was the Supervising Animator for Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Quasimodo in the Hunchback, and in almost all 2D and 3D Dreamworks animations.

Idina Menzel is amazing, so I'm hoping that her role in this movie she plays as well as she did in Wicked and Rent etc etc.  But this movie is definately starting to look really great, cannot wait to see finally a partly 2D animated movie again on the cinema screen :D .

Did you notice how the witch resembles the Old Hag from Snow White?
Title:
Post by: Patrick on January 20, 2007, 05:00:41 PM
Yeah she does seem to resemble her rather a lot, seems maybe they are trying to prove a point.  Such as Walt Disney are up to another age of animation, after all the old hag was the first ever animated fairytale villain in a disney movie :) .  Or it could simply be a big coincidence.
Title:
Post by: Anthony on January 20, 2007, 06:28:00 PM
I love the idea of the film as a whole, but I don't really like the animation.  Great that they're doing a bit of tradional animation, but it looks far from groundbreaking to me.  It reminds me a bit of a DisneyToon movie, or if Disney made their own 2D animated Shrek.  Maybe it's meant to be like that though, like the most stereotypical fairytale animation possible?  We'll have to wait and see.

I hope this is 2007's Christmas hit though, like Narnia was in 2005.

From the first page...

QuoteThe story centers on a princess-in-waiting who is banished from a classical animation world by a vainglorious queen and dumped into a modern-day, live-action Manhattan.
I think this film will do very well - sortof a soft re-introduction to traditional animation but not too much to put people off seeing the film.  The animation part will probably only be like 15 minutes, so it'll be a nice teaser for audiences... and hopefully get them realising something isn't good because its CGI. :)

Love the trailer, looks hilarious in parts and also there has been talk that Julie Andrews has been called in to do the narration for the movie.

Quote from: "The Disney Blog"It's unclear if this is a late addition to the movie or simply a casting change, but Disney Legend Julie Andrews revealed to SciFi Channel that she will be recording the narration for the upcoming Disney film "Enchanted." I had heard that filming for the movie was done so they must have found something in post-production that required the talents of Andrews.

WOW !! Of course I need to see that movie. I already loved my soul out at two scenes. First the part with the "magic mirror" and second the part when the prince starts singing and the bycicles come. How funny. And with music from Alan Menken it couldn't be better. So I will watch that movie for sure since it will be in cinema two days after my birthday.  :)

Carrie Underwood Online has learned from its exclusive sources that Carrie will be singing "Ever After" from the movie enchanted. Underwood recently shot the video to the soundtrack in downtown LA. The movie will be released November 21st, 2007. The soundtrack will contain 6 songs and reference classic Disney characters

That would be great for the soundtrack, Carrie Underwood had the number 1
selling album in America last year  :D

The film's score and music for the songs will be written by the accomplished songwriter and Broadway composer Alan Menken, who has done a number of Walt Disney Pictures films, such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Home on the Range, and The Shaggy Dog. Fellow Broadway composer and cohort Stephen Schwartz (The Prince of Egypt, Pippin, and Wicked) is contributing lyrics.

It has been confirmed that six songs have so far been worked at, and are being continuously polished. Apparently, according to recent reports, only five will appear in the finished film. They will be homages to the traditional style of Disney music, rather than parodies as previously reported.

Can't wait for this movie, i think it's going to do really well.[/quote]

I know this has nothing to do with some members, but for the UK members if you collect nectar points, for 500 you can see an advance preview in a Vue cinema on Sunday 2nd December  .

Really excited about this movie, and will be funny to see just how different Stardust and Enchanted are, movie genre wise, after all if you have watched their latest trailers back to back, as I did tonight when seeing Ratatouille they use practically the same wording  .  Enchanted "There has never been anything like Enchanted" and Stardust, "But never has there been an adventure quite like this" , see what I mean  .

Stardust looks awful... mainly because I can't believe just how much they ripped off the Enchanted trailers. Even the logo is similar.

As for Nectar points... whoa, that means I have to buy another 124 sandwiches (4 points) to see the film. :P They're so worthless.

Have you seen the film? No, well then you can't slag it off (I have, you can read my review soon in another topic). If I'm not mistaken the logo for Enchanted was released well after the Stardust one.

I'm just praying there are seats left for the London Film Festival screening so I can purchase some on Wednesday.

Hehe, you'll probably hate me after reading about what I did today.....

I went to the World premiere of Enchanted!

Before the film began the cast, the director, the producers and Alan Menken spoke about the film on the stage...which was amazing. The film itself was awesome, the special effects, the story, the music, everything was just executed perfectly. It was like all the best things about a Disney animated film then put into a real World situation, which was great. Another thing I love is that the trailers (well, atm anyway) don't show too much of the film which leaves loads of stuff for you to enjoy without seeing in the trailer. I have to say the song before the credits reminded me heavily of a Disney theme park parade tune which amused me. The film also has so many amusing moments which was great and something I find very rare within films now.

Anyways I can't till the official release so I can see it again.

Rating: 5/5

I don't know if I should mention this in here but what the heck.

This year London's Oxford Street (THE busiest street in London for shops) had a ceremony last night to kick off the Christmas season by turning on their lights which is sponsered by Disney's wonderful new film, Enchanted. So basically not only does this film now have it's name all lit up all the way down this shopping area in Central London, it has also been advertised in all the London newspapers due to the ceremony (maybe an article or two tonight). The Odeon West End cinema has also got a new big poster of the film outside and inside all the Odeon cinemas in London's Leicester Square they have quite big poster display things dotted around the entrance areas.

Is it me or is Disney going really OTT for the marketing for this film? Which obviously isn't a bad thing, but it has shocked me at how early they are starting to advertise, we have just over a month until it is released in the UK and there are already adverts everywhere.
Title:
Post by: Anthony on November 08, 2007, 03:14:14 PM
I've seen a load of advertising for it already too. It reminds me of the huge campaign Narnia got a few years back, which eventually helped it make an incredible amount of money. I'd never seen the appeal in Narnia, until that campaign started...

Enchanted isn't based on such an iconic book, but I'm sure they're remembering Narnia's launch well, it's even released in the same week of December!

I believe so, although I think it was on Regent Street instead which is kinda connected to Oxford Street. Last year for some annoying reason they had Ice Age and they were quite shoddy, especially compared to this years, there are loads of chandeliers of lights which makes it look amazing.

ABCNews.com is rather happy about Enchanted...

QuoteAudiences fell under the spell of "Enchanted," a fairy-tale romance that debuted as the No. 1 movie and led Hollywood out of its recent box-office doldrums with solid business over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Starring Amy Adams as a cartoon princess exiled to real-world Manhattan by her fiance's wicked stepmother (Susan Sarandon), Disney's "Enchanted" took in $35.3 million over the weekend and $50.05 million since debuting Wednesday, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Sony Screen Gems' family reunion holiday tale "This Christmas," whose ensemble cast includes Delroy Lindo, Regina King, Mekhi Phifer and Idris Elba, opened at No. 2 with $18.6 million for the weekend and $27.1 million since Wednesday.

Hollywood had been in a box-office funk this fall, but the two movies paced the industry to a healthy Thanksgiving, with the top-12 movies pulling in $218.1 million from Wednesday to Sunday, up 6 percent from the holiday period last year.

"That's good for an industry that's been in a downtrend for almost two months," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. "Thanksgiving sets the tone for the rest of the year and the holiday season in general. This was a key weekend, and it delivered."

"Enchanted" had the second-best five-day Thanksgiving debut ever, behind the $80.1 million haul of Disney's "Toy Story 2." Disney released all five of the top-grossing movie debuts over Thanksgiving, with "Unbreakable," "A Bug's Life" and "101 Dalmatians" trailing "Toy Story 2" and "Enchanted."

"It's a really good place to launch a movie," said Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney. "When you get a movie as strong and well-playing as this, it bodes well for us right through the Christmas holiday."
Hopefully it will now continue to rumble on with good box office until Christmas, like Narnia did... :)

50M is  good  :D  Iam really happy that critics are loving this film.
Apperantly Amy Adams is amazing, i loved this article about her

QuoteAdams, it's already been determined, is a strong contender for the Best Actress race if, for no other reason (and there are plenty of other reasons), she plays a very likable character. Academy voters love it when pretty women "play dumb" or at the very least "street smart," as we've already discussed many times . Adams takes what would ordinarily be an okay part and makes it a great part.  She's alternately sweet, crazy, funny and sad - mostly, you never stop believing she is a princess from an animated movie, which shows she's a skilled actress on top of being charming and charismatic on screen.

The year Julia Roberts was up for Pretty Woman, Kathy Bates (the total anti-Roberts in every possible way) won (and hallelujah to the Academy for getting that one right).

Still, in a relatively weak year, Adams could win the thing.  If an American Idol can win an Oscar these days, a relative newcomer/star is born could easily win, and Adams has already proven her chops in Junebug.  Really, there is no reason to think she can't win, especially if she does two things.  The first - if (when) she wins at the Globes she  fights back the tears or  in any way makes people love her all the more, and the second - if she starts winning all of the critics' early awards for  Best Actress.   Adams has that rare and elusive "star quality" that (if you haven't noticed) has charmed the critics' pants off.  The actors only have to get her nominated; the whole Academy votes for the winner - if a character (an an actress) appeals strongly to BOTH sexes, and in a year with no real competition, it could be Adams.  We are right at the moment where things change week by week but I could see it coming down to Adams vs. Laura Linney for the win.  We'll have to wait and see on that score.

Just got back from seeing the movie... and, please excuse the oh-so-obvious pun, I am truly "enchanted".

Now, I don't know if this film will make it into the pantheon of Disney classics... I actually doubt it - but this doesn't take away from the fact that this movie is so sweet and without any cynism - a rarity these days.

Amy Adams is so wonderful. Honestly - could I have her phone number for Christmas please?
Patrick Dempsey is, well, he's McDreamy... But the true hero of the movie is Pip the Chipmunk. I love this little rodent.

The movie is filled with loving nods to great Disney storytelling. The music is not too memorable, but very fitting. (Especially the ball room song is beautiful...)

This movie is perfect for all those dreamers out there. And for everybody who wants to take his or her family to the movies... or for those on a date. It's just one of those (rare) movies that he get out off feeling so good inside. About life. Love. Magic.

It's a beautiful movie. Go and watch it.

Odeon cinemas in the UK have special previews of Enchanted this weekend at 15.30 on both Saturday and Sunday! Where possible, it's also shown in Digital!! Tickets still seem to be available.

Odeon.co.uk (//http://www.odeon.co.uk/fanatic/great_offers/?promotion_id=366&utm_source=Odeon&utm_medium=banner&utm_content=enhanted_banner_to_offerpage&utm_campaign=enchanted#offer853)

The European websites for the film have also launched.. Is it just me, or do they look a bit... chavvy? It's all that white, gold and pink. Definitely too girly anyway, the US website is much more all-round.

The US website is amazing actually, one of the best flash sites I've seen for years:

I have seen Enchanted woo :D , all I can say is amazing, the animation may not be up the full standard of the classic disney animated features of years past.  But what there is, definately is a step up from the animation on disney sequels.  The storyline is great and full of twists at every turn, plus is full of nods to the other Disney Classic Princess stories :) .  I won't give much away, but with the great combination of music, live action, animation and a star studded cast, including Julie Andrews, this is the best Disney movie in years :D .

Obviously I will say is a must see this Christmas if you want to see a great movie.

Enchanted definately enchants and I give it 10/10!

Hehe, I just got back from seeing one of the previews too! :D

Loved every second... just fabulous! Fabulous!! The animation was so special, the songs were very good (better than expected after hearing the soundtrack, they work great on screen) and Amy Adams... wow. She's just incredible as Giselle, and such a lovely character. Can she come and make a dress from my curtains??

The magic of the film is that it felt so familiar yet entirely new. It's very, very funny too, kept me laughing all the way through -- most importantly, it's not a jab at the Disney classics but more a love letter. I've never been in a cinema screen so full but so entranced by a film.

It suffered in the "third act" a bit I thought... the dragon attack seemed almost unnecessary after everything else, but on the gorgeous animation, clever jokes and amazing performance of Amy Adams...

5 Stars!

I'll be seeing it again in 2 weeks for sure. I can't wait to see where Disney take The Princess and the Frog and Rapunzel after this...

Did you notice... They eat at an Italian restaurant called "Bella Notte"? When Giselle is looking to the aquarium, you can hear Little Mermaid music in the background? :)

I enjoyed the movie very much, though I have to say that the script was not the best... they could have spent a bit more time in the story department. There are just few little things that are wrong with it, that prevent "Enchanted" from becoming a true Disney classic, in my humble opinion.

Film 2007 on the BBC had it's preview/review of Enchanted this week, including brief input from the three leads and Kevin Lima and some good clips from the film. Good news is, you can watch it streaming on the amazing new iPlayer (//http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b008h45g.shtml?filter=txdate%3A11-12&filter=txslot%3Aevening&scope=iplayerlast7days&start=1&version_pid=b008h44z) website (who needs regular TV with all these now?), it's the first film on. I suppose it'll only let people in the UK watch, though.

Jonathan Ross' review is waaay better than I expected. He always gives massive praise to Pixar films, but it's hard to say how a film critic would react to a film like Enchanted... he ends with "outstanding performances", "wonderful songs", "brilliant animated scenes" and "near perfectly brought to screen". :o

Just a few more days till it's out there for most of us...

Oh, and the buy the soundtrack!! Wow, the songs really grow on you. True Love's Kiss and That's How You Know are classics.

Today's Times newspaper had a whole double page in the film section dedicated to Enchanted, listing most of the in-jokes and Disney references, as well as a review on the next page (also online here (//http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/film_reviews/article3040890.ece)), which was also very positive (4-stars, compared to 3 for bee movie). Quote from: "The Times"Spot the Disney references in Enchanted
The Christmas blockbuster Enchanted is more than a fairytale, it's a treasure trove of references to the great Disney films of the past. Our critic reveals all — nearly

It took Disney a long time to pluck up the courage to make Enchanted. The story of an animated princess who falls foul of a wicked stepmother and finds herself in contemporary Manhattan, it is playfully self-referential, enthusiastically plundering the Disney tradition for its own comedic ends.

Indeed, according to its director, Kevin Lima, it is effectively Disney's first postmodern movie. The clincher came when he managed to persuade the company that there was a way to make the film as a love letter rather than a cynical pastiche. The result is a film that, although a departure for Disney, also has a charming, old-fashioned innocence.

It's an approach that has clearly struck a chord with American audiences. Enchanted has dominated the box office since its release at Thanksgiving and looks likely to be the hit of the festive season. Lima puts the success down to the film's refreshingly sweet-natured tone. "With this movie I set out to make Mary Poppins. With that in mind, I had to throw away the meantempered mockery. It has been done so much. The Shrek movies were very successful in turning the screws on Disney in that way. So I was looking for a new way."

To recapture that traditional Disney magic, Lima found himself scouring the classics for imagery and references. "And then something happened: we came up with the idea of doing Happy Working Song as a set piece and it set the tone for the entire film. From there it just went nuts, it became an obsession. Every single name had to somehow have a relation to Disney, every image had to relate back to the Disney iconography. I drove my entire staff crazy." Fans well versed in Disney lore will have a field day trying to spot all the Disney references, although, says Lima, "there is a lot of stuff hidden pretty deeply".

Here we reveal many, but not all, of the Disney references Lima and team have crammed into the film.

The storybook opening

The classic image at the start of Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty is the storybook that falls open to reveal a land far, far away. Lima's take on the image is updated by making the tome a pop-up book.

Prince Edward hunts trolls

We're introduced to Prince Edward in the animated world, riding a steed vanquishing a stupid troll. The troll is wearing a loincloth made from shreds of dresses of the Disney princesses Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. He's also wearing Ariel the Little Mermaid's shells as earrings.

Giselle arrives in the real world

Our heroine, Giselle (Amy Adams), is cast into a well on the morning of her wedding and emerges through a manhole in the middle of Times Square in a marshmallow of a dress that looks good enough to eat. The scene is full of references, most of which are purely coincidental. Lima recalls: "There's things like the Tarzan poster on the street . There's a giant Wicked poster, and Idina Menzel was an original cast member of Wicked, and Stephen Schwartz wrote the music both for Wicked and for us."

The Happy Working Song

Giselle is given shelter by Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan. She wakes the next morning to find the apartment in chaos. Undeterred by her new world, Giselle calls upon her trusty animal friends to help to clean up. Rather than woodland creatures, however, it's the city's vermin that answer her call. Lima says: "The entire film grew out of that moment. I thought it might be fun to do a twist on a typical Disney song in the modern world. It plays into Whistle While You Work , then incorporates imagery from other Disney working songs. There's a little bit of Mary Poppins; she sings to the cockroaches on her finger and they sing back; the soap bubbles and the reflections of Giselle in each bubble, that's a homage to Cinderella."

Giselle gets dressed

Cinderella references come thick and fast. First, when Giselle steps naked out of the shower, pigeons drape a towel around her — a direct nod to Cinders being dressed by birds. A few minutes later it is revealed that Giselle has created a fabulous frock for herself out of the living room curtains — again, a reference to Cinderella, specifically a scene in which the animals create a dress for her out of found household objects.

The divorce lawyer's office

Robert Philip takes Giselle to work with him at the offices of the law firm of Churchill, Harline and Smith — the names of the three songwriters who created the memorable soundtrack to Snow White. "Most law firms have three names, so I went looking for a three-name combo in a Disney film. The divorcing couple are called the Banks and that's from Mary Poppins. There's a reporter who says her name is Mary Ilene Caselotti — that's from the first names and the last names of the three women who play Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Robert Philip's assistant is named Sam. And Philip's horse in Sleeping Beauty was called Samson."

The poisoned apple

It was the weapon that the jealous queen chose to use against Snow White. Enchanted updates the poisoned apple with a poisoned apple martini, served to Giselle by the evil stepmother's henchman in an Italian restaurant named the Bella Notte — a reference to Lady and the Tramp.

Central Park

A stroll in Central Park with an increasingly bemused but grudgingly charmed Robert turns into a full song and dance production. Giselle's song, How Does She Know?, asks how Robert's long-suffering, long-term girlfriend, Nancy, is meant to know that he loves her if he never says so; Robert meanwhile wonders how everyone except him seems to know the words to the song and the accompanying dance steps.

Prince Edward defeats the bus

Deposited in the centre of Times Square on his quest to bring Giselle back to the kingdom of Andalasia, Edward swiftly brings his trollvanquishing skills to the task of tackling the New York public transport system. He dispatches a bus with a flourish of his sword, incurring the wrath of the driver.

Look closely at the driver — her hair is shaped like Mickey Mouse's ears. Riding the bus is a woman clutching a bag of birdseed, a homage to the bird woman in Mary Poppins.

Prince Edward watches TV

Prince Edward settles down in a motel room to watch the "magic mirror", aka the television. Lima says: "Everything on the television comes from a Disney film. Every image: Disney's Robin Hood; there's an image of Mortimer Snerd, a ventriloquist's dummy that comes from Fun and Fancy Free. There's a lot of dialogue that plays in the background that is all Disney referenced as well. There's a Spanish Mickey Mouse cartoon."

Disney experts will spot a host of references in a soap opera that moves the henchman, Timothy Spall, to tears, but Lima cautions that we shouldn't give all of them away. "I think if you set the stage, then audiences will go in looking."
And from their website, here's a nice interview with the director himself: .Mov File (//http://ukpress.waytoblue.com/media/video/enchanted_kevinlimafeaturette_850k_meta.mov)

That's your enchanted update for tonight.

Great article, Baloo. I got to see Enchanted last night, and even though I read the article I still missed some references... ;)

I absolutely loved all the references to Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty & The Beast, and The Little Mermaid. The reference to 'Kiss the Girl' during the song 'How does she know'... The reference to 'Once upon a dream' in the beginning... Oh, and did you all spot the porcelain Belle figurine in the daughter's bedroom?

Anyway, the movie is truly charming!! Can hardly wait till the dvd release - gotta have it. ;)

Same here, but are Disney going to hold the release for the DVD for next christmas? I know Disney tend to do things like that when its a christmas release for the cinema.

Hmm, anyways I saw the film again last Saturday and I thought it was even better than when I first saw it at the premiere. I still seem to miss the references but I did notice a few from the article.

As Well as The Jodi Benson (Ariel) parts, you guys spot Paige O'Hara (Belle) as a TV soap actress and Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas singing) in one of the apartments Edward is running through? Oddly, Kuhn's pop-up doesn't have a Pocahontas musical cue, just a random line "you're too late..." Can't get the Pocahontas reference there, or just the fact a prince charming has appeared on her door, whilst she is a mother of about 5.. who knows...

:D I saw it today. I absolutely flipping LOVED IT! Easily one of the best Disney films of all time, and definatly straight in my top 10 favourite films EVER. Everything about it was just wonderful. Prince Edward is surely one of the funniest Disney characters ever. He's full of himself, yet he's completely charming at the same time ( ;) Gaston could learn from this guy).

***SPOILERS FOLLOW***DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN ENCHANTED***

My only negatives (which aren't even big ones), are that (1) I wish there was a little more of the animation part of the film, because it was just beautiful and (2) the ending left me feeling a tad hollow. Yes, everyone got their Happily Ever After...but after how brilliant the film was throughout, the ending seemed a tad rushed to me. Also, I kinda thought it was a shame how things turned out between Giselle and Edward, as they would've made a really adorable couple once upon a time.

***END SPOILERS***

:P But yes, they're only teeny tiny negatives. The film on a whole is fantastic, and I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. :)

Unsurprisingly, no nominations for Amy Adams at the Oscars (probably not a dull enough character for them), but still...

Best music (song)
Falling Slowly - Once (performed by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova)
Happy Working Song - Enchanted (performed by Amy Adams)
Raise It Up - August Rush (performed by Jamia Simone Nash and Impact Repertory Theatre)
So Close - Enchanted (performed by Jon McLaughlin)
That's How You Know - Enchanted (performed by Amy Adams)

Three for best song! One of them has to win surely? But which one, what do you think? :)

That's great the music got a nomination again, it's been a long time since Disney last had music in nominations.  Have to say if I could choose one I would say it would be "So Close" or "That's How you Know".  Then again they are to me the two most powerful songs in the movie :) .

I think Amy Adams should definitely have been placed in the Best Actress nominations, I mean really, Kate Blanchett, who actually went to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age  .

Not a vast amount on there, I can see a special edition in the future, but worth buying it now just for the wonderful film.

Not sure about anyone else, but as a Disney fan I'm beginning to feel the need for a Blu-ray player now, as they've started putting all the best features on there. The DVD is even cheeky enough to have a promo for the features "only on Blu-ray" amongst its extras.

I know what you mean, that teaser for blue-ray features was so cheeky and mean, they know we've just forked out however much money for the DVD and now there telling us we should have bought the blue-ray version

I saw it for the first time last night on DVD, but now I've got all of the songs stuck in my head :-"

I think its a bit more of a girly film, because both me and Olivia loved it, but my brother hated it, and when me and Olivia were talking about it at Taekwondo class, my friend Dane kept sticking his fingers down his throat and making weird noises.

If you're in the UK. try Morrison's, got my copy for £9.99, but they go up after a while.

I agree that it perhaps more of a girlie thing, but my hubby liked it even so.
