Title: Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (2007)
Post by: Dlrpfan on July 29, 2006, 10:44:28 AM
Now Dead Mans chest leaves on a bit of a clif hanger when Captain Barbossa arrives.

what do you think will happen in the third?

Post by: Anthony on July 29, 2006, 12:37:04 PM
They sail "to the end of the earth" and save Jack. 8)

More specifically, I think it involves the East India Trading Company much more and will have a bit of an asian twist.  They have to travel to the orient and confront Captain Sao Feng to find the way to "World's End".  Oh, and Tia Dalma "departs"...

The title will possibly (but maybe not, since all guesses for Dead Man's Chest were wrong) either be "Pirates of the Caribbean: World's End", "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End", or "Pirates of the Caribbean: Uncharted Waters".

There should also be that cameo from Keith Richards as Jack's dad.

I got most of that from various things I've read, and also Wikipedia (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_3) is a lovely place for rumours. :D

QuoteAccording to another article in Entertainment Weekly, director Gore Verbiniski, revealed a basic plot: "Piracy itself is at stake. It's like the railroad coming to the West". Verbiniski continues on to state that within the film there will be: "a conference of the world's pirate leaders and a treacherous journey to the literal ends of the earth". After that there is a massive fight scene were Jack fends off 100's of sea urchins.

Form Comngsoon.net:

QuoteWith Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest about to take the top box office spot for a third weekend in a row, Walt Disney Pictures unveiled the first footage from the third installment at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. While it was previously believed to carry the subtitle "At World's End," those words were not included in the presentation and we're expecting you'll be hearing a new subtitle soon. (Spoilers ahead!)

The footage was about two minutes long and included brief interviews with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Orlando Bloom. Chow Yun-Fat's character had many speaking lines in the clip, which featured lots of Singapore floating village shots, a rescue Captain Jack Sparrow scene, a scene where Sparrow has to convince the crew to run back and forth on the shipdeck to rock a ship over, Jack the undead monkey in Chinese Warrior armor, shots of Barbossa and Sparrow amid a huge shipboard sword battle, and a swordfight between Sparrow and Davy Jones atop a crows nest in a giant storm.

The teaser poster for the third film (shown below) was at the event as well. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 hits theaters on May 25, 2007.

Thanks for posting those!  Looks like this could see Ted, Terry and Mr. JD return Jack Sparrow to the world of comedy, after all the drama of Dead Man's Chest.  The oriental theme fits surprisingly well.

Elizabeth's costumes look especially good.  There's a strange absence of Will in those photos, though... has anyone else heard the rumours that he's going to be killed at the end of this film?

Post by: ChipChap on December 04, 2006, 09:41:43 AM
In Germany they said, that Will will die (haha) in the third movie!
Orlando Bloom wanted too much money and they said: no, then we will cut you out of the movie. We have no money, after the small income of POTC 2. lol

I don't know if this true, but they said this on many german websites ;)
Title:
Post by: Nala_84 on December 04, 2006, 11:12:34 AM
Really?? Is that true? I wouldn't like that... I hate it when characters die, I'm romantic so he has to marry Elizabeth  :P

[quote="ChipChap", after the small income of POTC 2. [/quote]

Small income... wasn't POTC 2 quite succesful?
Title:
Post by: Anthony on December 04, 2006, 08:48:08 PM
It's probably more like the writers just realised after Dead Man's Chest that Will's character is boring, whereas Jack and Elizabeth together is much more exciting.  I know I did, anyway.

Go Jack and Elizabeth! :D

I totally understand you but I think when charakters die its more exiting...And its also more realistic.....Not that I'm a pessismist but there is not always an happy end in real life...

Quote from: "suzie"Small income... wasn't POTC 2 quite succesful?

I wrote a "lol" after that sentence. It was meant ironical ;)
It was REALLY succesful. The income is the third biggest one in movie history! Only Titanic and one Lord of the Rings movie had a higher income  8)

I have a bad feeling for POTC3...I hope it will not be like Matrix: first movie great, second okay and the third totally bad full of computer animations *g*

More here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/31212 (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/31212)

I'm so glad they made new ones for this film, it was so lazy of them to reuse the first poster for Dead Man's Chest (adding some dodgy wavy hair for Elizabeth of course).

So here it is, the official trailer : http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/pir ... worldsend/ (http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/pirates/atworldsend/)

Looks totally amazing. Can't await to see the movie, it will be awesome. In my opinion they could make a hundred POTC movies. I just love Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. I'm totally obsessed of him and my husband hates me for it.

I just saw the trailer too it's awesome. There's a lot of action in it i think the sword fight between Jack Sparrow and Davey Jones on the ship was one of the most awesome scenes of the trailer :D
Title:
Post by: Anthony on March 20, 2007, 05:30:14 PM
WOW!

I didn't think they could beat how much they crammed into the Dead Man's Chest trailer, but they've done it.  This looks totally incredible.  I really like the look of frozen icy water, with the white ship, and there's already some new funny lines. Elizabeth: "I don't think that was the best time!", Jack: "...And I owe them all money!".

That final battle across the whirlpool looks like it'll be brilliant. If this trilogy is remembered for anything more than Cap'n Jack it'll be all these amazing setpieces.

The film will probably be about 4 hours long to fit all that in...

By the way, I love how clever Disney are with new technology now, letting people put this on their blog or myspace.  Ratatouille has a countdown flash object too, that will display the trailer when its available (3 days!).

Curios thing:

QuoteDISNEY ANGER OVER COMIC PIRATES PORN

Filmmakers Disney are reportedly considering legal action against US firm Sinful Comics after they produced a raunchy strip featuring PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN actors. British newspaper The Sun reports Sinful have created a comic strip, which sees movie beauty KEIRA KNIGHTLEY being seduced by co-stars JOHNNY DEPP and ORLANDO BLOOM at the same time. The latest installment in the real Pirates franchise, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT THE WORLD'S END, is due for release in May (07).

And you can find a Buena Vista Intl podcast for the film in iTunes or on that link too.

I wanted to go to the first showing at our local cinema, as most people will still be in school/work (the joy of being a tax dodging uni student!), but my friends are insisting we go at 8pm instead. The ticket booking system online wasn't working though, so we're going at 5:30 to pick up tickets...someone's head will roll if we don't get them...

What a great action adventure this was! It isn't as good as part 1, but far better dan 2, but that doesn't mather, it al makes sense at the end! It has great action scenes, some surprising plot twists and off course that little bit of extra disney magic! Jack, as always, is totally wicked, but Barbossa, Miss Swann and Mister Turner are not far behind him ;)

7,5 * out of 10 * stars for me :)

I've just been told there's one on the first film as well. How annoying! I'm not getting the DVDs until this one comes out on DVD. Gah.

I'm going to drag my boyfriend to see it next week so I can see this scene (thanks for the PM Joe!)

Well... the film was good. But if I'm honest I must say that I've awaited more of it - I still like the first movie the most  :?

The movie shows great pictures, is often funny and very entertaining, but what I didn't like so much was the sometimes confusing/confused story. But I can understand that coz the writers didn't know first also to create a third part of it.

But anyways, the characters are great and Jack's the greatest :) Now it's really more than necessary to renew the DLP attraction!!!

Edit: Hehe, the cinema was pretty empty when the credits came... we waited and were recompenced with the great last scene

Have to say I loved the movie, I didn't find it too confusing, me and my friend were trying to recap all the storylines during the movie to make sure we kept up  .  Very good in my mind and really love the little innuendo to the good old attraction when they hit worlds end  .  As usual, and as everyone has said Depp makes the movie, but me and my friend also loved the little monkey, he's hilarious and definately made the movie, I know, how about they should make a spin off monkey of the caribbean  .  Bloom as usual nice to look at, especially in a bandanner, but his acting skills was somewhat to be seen in parts.  Knightly definately added to the story this time more than a stand in between Jack and Will.  Oddly don't think I've ever laughed so much at a movie, yet at the same time felt completely fixed in the movie and the compelling story.

Yes there were many odd storylines and a weird part with well jack, but I'll let all who haven't seen it find out for themselves, and interesting to see they took on a less dark, yet less family orientated idea with At worlds end. But it really was an amazing conclusion to the trilogy, now bring on number4.  People may say it will be dragging it out for more than its worth, but personally I see the movie will never be complete as long as there's storylines left to act  .

I also agree sometime perhaps next year it would be a good filler to bring in Jack and perhaps barbossa to potc attraction in Paris.

My friend looked on the Dead Man's Chest DVD yesterday and said that she couldn't find the scene at the end of the credits  :? I don't have it on DVD, so I can't check for myself.
I should be seeing this film again at least once this week.
And there should be a 4th at some point in the future. It's so obviously been left open for one. Don't want to spoil the ending, but anyone who's seen it will know what I mean about Jack.

OK, put me down as another sad person who would love to be told what happened after the credits - a PM would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have much luck with these - I saw Dead Man's Chest at a press screening and they closed the curtains before the end of the credits so I missed that one.  And this time around, I had a sneaky suspicion that I should stay but I was with a bunch of people (including my lift home!) and they were all leaving so...sigh.

(ETA: Thanks for the PM Pat!)

Quote from: "BBC News"Dip in Pirates' box office gold

The third Pirates of the Caribbean film dominated the box office this weekend, but failed to match the performance of the 2006 sequel Dead Man's Chest.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End took $126.5m (£63.2m) in the US on its opening three days, but fell short of the earlier film's $136.6m (£68.8m).

However it did break the four-day Memorial Day record set by X-Men 3.

The film, starring Johnny Depp, easily sailed past the $123m (£61.9m) set by X-Men: The Last Stand, last year.

Spider-Man 3 currently holds the three-day box office sales record. The sequel took $151m (£76m) across its opening weekend earlier this month.

'Record Friday'

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which reunites Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, is currently showing in 102 countries, and opened in a record 4,362 cinemas.

It follows the original film, Curse of the Black Pearl, released in 2003, and last year's Dead Man's Chest.

The latest chapter in the Disney adventure, inspired by a theme park ride, took $57m (£28.7m) in the US, including previews of $14m, by the end of its opening day on Friday.

The studio claimed combined national and international figures marked their biggest Friday ever.

"This is the biggest Friday our company has ever had," said Mark Zoradi, of Walt Disney Studios.

"We're delighted that word-of-mouth is clearly translating into record results at the box office."

Mixed reviews

In contrast, critics reviews have so far been mixed.

"Maybe they should have called it Pirates of the Caribbean: At Wit's End," wrote Time magazine's Richard Schickel

"While it still lacks the giddy zip of Curse of the Black Pearl, the new edition delivers its fair share of entertaining sequences, especially wherever Depp is concerned," wrote The Hollywood Reporter's Michael Rechtshaffen.

"I applaud the Oscar nomination Depp received for the first Pirates, but the third chapter proves that there can indeed be too much of a good thing," wrote Peter Travers in Rolling Stone.

"Pirates 3 raises everything from the dead, except inspiration."

Ticket sales are likely to be further boosted by the Memorial Day holiday in the US on Monday.

So still amazing, if not quite DMC-level.

I was reading that it is still expected to end with higher ticket sales than Spidermen 3 by the end of the summer, due to the fact that the holidays have officially started in the USA, so there was not as much need to see it over the actual weekend like Spiderman.

It'll definitely be bigger than Spiderman. The acting is 10000000 times better for a start

Ugh, Spiderman...not a bad film as such, just an OK one with some truly awful moments! Certainly At World's End was much more enjoyable.

That said, I don't think either film is good enough to be making such ridiculous amounts of money - and enjoyable though the Pirates movies are, must they be so long? It's no wonder people are itching to leave once the credits start and miss the final scenes

I finally saw it! (and stayed till the end )

Amazing! Brilliant! Perfect! What more can I say. The bad reviews were totally wrong.  Wrapped everything up better than I could have hoped, the Jack hallucinations were fantastic (and surprisingly arty considering its a Summer blockbluster) and the ending between Will and Elizabeth was incredibly romantic.  *swoons*

it's a good film. I loved the bit before the Hallucinations where they played about 30 seconds straight from the attraction.

I thought it was great (DMC still my favouite of the 3 though)

QuoteDisney's "Pirates" Rule The Global Box Office with Biggest Opening of All Time; Film's Unprecedented Booty of $401 Million is a New Industry Record!

ImageWalt Disney Pictures' epic adventure "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," from Jerry Bruckheimer Films, landed in the global box office record books and laid claim to the biggest opening in industry history, with an unprecedented gross of $401,000,000 in its first six days of release, it was announced today by Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Marketing and Distribution.  This figure surpasses the previous record of $382 million set by the six day opening of "Spiderman 3" earlier this year.  "Pirates" continues to please audiences around the world with exceptionally strong exit polls.

Domestically, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" raised its weekend estimate to $156 million (including Thursday night showings). The film set a new record for the four-day Memorial Day Weekend with its gross of $142 million (including Monday estimates), the film surpassed the previous high of $122.8 million set by "X-Men: The Last Stand" in 2006.

At the international box office, Disney's latest "Pirates" adventure shattered records from Russia to Japan with its phenomenal $245 million cume through Monday (including Monday estimates).  The film had record-breaking openings (figures are through Sunday) in their respective markets in the following countries: Korea ($18.4 million), Japan ($15.9 million; US Productions only), Russia ($13.7 million), Spain ($11.6 million), Taiwan ($4.5 million) and Netherlands ($2.8 million).  It also set new Walt Disney Studio records in the U.K. ($26.6 million), France ($17.7 million), Germany ($16.8 million) and Australia ($9.9 million).  With its six-day tally of $245 million, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" has set a new international record that surpasses the previous six-day high of $232 million set by "Spiderman 3" a few weeks ago.  "Pirates" still has a few markets yet to open including China and India.

Commenting on the announcement, Zoradi said, "We knew that audiences all over the world were excited to see Johnny Depp and the rest of the fantastic 'Pirates' cast in this latest adventure, but this record-setting response at the global box office has been nothing short of incredible.  'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' now has the distinction of having the biggest opening in movie history, and we're extremely proud of that achievement.  Credit goes to the multitude of talent both in front of and behind the camera.  Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski and their exceptional teams as well as the creative minds of writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio have proven to be the perfect recipe for success."

"Pirates" which rolled out on over 29,000 screens worldwide, showed on a record number of digital screens both domestically (1,064) and internationally (414) bringing the global total to 1,478.  The film has already become the Studio's 54th release to join the $100 million club internationally and the 53rd film to reach the $100 million plateau domestically – unprecedented in the industry.

Quote from: "BBC News"Pirates film takes China by storm

Opening week takings of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End have surpassed those of Spiderman 3 in China, despite the film being censored.

Some scenes with Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat - who plays Singapore pirate Captain Sao Feng - were trimmed for local audiences.

China's news agency Xinhua said scenes of Chow as a bald, scarred pirate, insulted China's people.

But the film has taken 80 million yuan (£5.27m) since its release on 12 June.

The figure was 10 million yuan (£659,000) more than Spiderman 3 earned in its first week.

Xinhua said Chow's time on the screen had "been slashed in half by censors in China for vilifying and defacing the Chinese."

The actor appears on screen for only 10 minutes in the version of the Hollywood blockbuster released in China, compared to 20 minutes in the rest of the world.

Some local newspaper reviews have said the cuts make the film difficult to follow.

Spiderman 3, released on 2 May, has earned more than 100 million yuan (£6.59m), topping China's movie box office takes so far this year.

Maybe good news for HKDL's pirate invasion event then, and construction of their own POTC in years to come?

If i read right it was November 26, there will be a one-disc dvd, a two-disc dvd and a two-disc blu-ray version. But i do notice At World's End has the same release date as Dead Man's Chest did.

And the release is 19th November for the UK. :) (Not until Dec. 4th for the US! hehe)

I bet we get an awful Blu Ray cover with that awful swoosh covering up most of the artwork! :(

Hopefully they'll sort out the Blu Ray covers by the time the animated classics start coming to Blu Ray.
