Title: Toy Story 3 (Pixar 2010)

QuoteEntertainment giant Walt Disney Co will release the third episode of its hit Toy Story films in mid-2008 following its divorce from animator Pixar, the industry press said today.
But even as the house of Mickey Mouse announced it would release Toy Story 3 without Pixar Animation Studios, the two firms are rekindling talks to renew their Oscar-winning production deal, Daily Variety said.

If the deal between the two powerhouses is not renewed, Toy Story 3 would be the first in the series to be produced and distributed by Disney alone after talks about renewing the 10-year deal collapsed last year.

Disney Consumer Products chair Andy Mooney announced that the company would take up its option of producing sequels to movies produced under the deal with Pixar at a meeting in New York, Variety said.

The film would hit US screens in three years time, 13 years after 1995's original Toy Story, the tale of a boy's toys that have lives of their own, the daily reported.

The Toy Story movies were among the early blockbuster hits born of a 10-year collaboration between Disney and Pixar that has raked in $US2.6 billion ($A3.34 billion) at the box office.

well well well

Quote from: "IMDB.com"'Toy Story 3' Scrapped
Pixar and Disney have announced they have cancelled plans to make a third installment of the popular Toy Story movies. Studio executives decided the script wasn't up to the standard the previous movies had set and didn't want to make the film with a less than stellar storyline, according to Moviehole.net. The third installment would have featured animated toy astronaut Buzz Lightyear getting recalled to Taiwan after a series of malfunctions.

I should have updated this topic... incase you missed the news - Toy Story 3 is back on!  No need to worry though, Pixar are involved.

From http://www.animated-news.com (http://www.animated-news.com) :

QuoteAllen talks Toy Story 3

While promoting The Shaggy Dog, Tim Allen was asked by Latino Review if he would be involved in Toy Story 3. "You bet. I've been looking forward to this," Allen answered. "I think Pixar and Disney are made for each other. Pixar's got certain qualities that Disney doesn't have, and Disney has this wonderful ability to put stuff together... They really, truly want the best for all of our entertainment dollars. They really want things to be this pipe of genuine comedy and genuine emotion. It's really rare in a company."

Yay, Toy Story 3!! I didn't know it would ever come back again!! But I love all the Disney/Pixar-Films. They could also make a... continuation?!... "Fortsetzung" of Finding Nemo or Monsters, Inc., too ;)

Does anyone know more about "The Wild"? This is without Pixar, sin't it?!

Quote from: "Animated-News.com"Allen talks Toy Story 3

Speaking with the The National Ledger, Tim Allen refers briefly to Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3. "It's going to be great," comments the voice of Buzz Lightyear himself. "We have John Lasseter, the original director, and I believe Tom [Hanks] is on board." Allen further describes the current version of Toy Story 3 as being "stronger" than the previous one planned by Disney's now-defunct Circle 7 Animation.

QuoteDisney To Release 'Toy Story 3' in 2009
John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Disney Animation, has apparently dropped his opposition to a second Toy Story sequel, confirming Thursday that Toy Story 3 is currently being developed for release in 2009. He said it will be directed by Lee Unkrich, co-director of Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo. One of Lasseter's first acts following the Disney-Pixar merger last year was to scrap Disney's separate plans for sequels to Pixar's hits. In an interview with Fortune, he said at the time, "I loved these characters that we have created. They're like family, like children. And if we didn't get a deal, Disney would own our children. Who knew what they would do? These were the people that put out Cinderella II." On Thursday, Lasseter remarked, "The greatest thing about the merger of the two companies is that the creators of Toy Story 1 and 2 can make 3 with the story that we wanted."

Comingsoon.net has some info on Toy Story 3:

QuoteToy Story 3 (2010)

Originality is a Pixar hallmark. None of the company's films have been based on fairy tales or novels, and only "Toy Story" has spawned sequels. Why a third adventure for Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen)? "We got an idea we thought would be really great," says Lee Unkrich, who co-directed "Toy Story 2" and "Finding Nemo" and graduates to full director status here. "We're just starting to write the story," he confides, adding, "I wake up every morning hoping for a eureka moment." He and the Brain Trust have already had one inspiration: they've asked Randy Newman to write the score. Or was that a no-brainer?

I'm really fed up of 3D animation. I think it's vastly overrated and can't wait for the return of traditional 2D animation. I think it's amusing that they talk about originality while working on Toy Story 3!

...I think we should remember and consider why Walt Disney always refused to do sequels. His main argument was, that he always wanted to get ahead. To develop himself and his art further.
And, he didn't want to sell out.

Fox and the Hound 2, Cinderella 2, Jungle Book 2... all are very sad examples of this. Sellout and poor quality.

But, I have to admit, I did in fact like Toy Story 2.

Let's be careful what we wish for, it might just come true...

Great find, very interesting!!

I'll post the first line here, hopefully anyone choosing to read this topic is ok with some small spoilers:

In Pixar's coming movie "Toy Story 3," Woody the cowboy and his toy-box friends are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, leaves for college.

Wow, that's a very brave plot. Considering the original Disney idea for the sequel was that Buzz got recalled to Singapore or somewhere and the toys had to bring him home safely, which was basically Toy Story 2 with a different lost toy (like most Disney video sequels, where the main character has a son/daughter and they reverse the story).

Although this reminds me of Jessie's "when she loved me" song...

Pixar will definitely want the movie out during the summer holidays, a June/July date should be fairly reasonable to expect.

Bit early to start advertising, still well over a year yet.

Well not really... Up hits US screens in a month... so getting the poster and film noticed by those who have forgotten about it... is quite a big deal... having the Image of the Toy Story Logo provides enough images and evokes enough feelings to get the movie some anticipation

Early advertising happens more often. Spider-Man 3 for instance began avertising 1 and a half year before release. Though you'd think they'd promote the earlier 2010 movies first like Prince of Persia for an example.

Well, I thought the trailer was just fantastic, really evoked the feeling of teh first two, with the hummor and style.

That said, here is a question, the actual animation, is it me or does that look slightly dated? If so, is this intended to keep it looking like the original 2? Toy Story 2 was realeased in 1999, ten years ago, and animation has developed so much since then. Look at paris in Ratatouille, the detail in Wall:e.

when I watched these, I always thought how cool it would be to see the "painting come to life" detail applied to Toy Story.

This trailer didnt seem to have that? I know its a basic trailer, but the wooden floor looked as if it fitted in the first two films, rather that what is possible now?

Im not wanting to sound negative, because I think the trailer is great, Im just wondering if the look is intended, or I am wrong here? (when the lights go out, that shows promise, that looks of a new standard)

12 months and Counting...

One trailer... only another 5 or so to come... Great Comical trailer... Couldn't see the difference in certain characters voices since the death of their voices, Where was Bo? Couldn't miss the appearance of Ratzenberger even if its for a second!

Very true... but compared with Up's 4-5 month wait... Just over 30 days isn't exactly bad...

Worldwide releases would be great... but Obviously Disney Can't be bothered and would rather screw over their fans in anticipation... and COnsidering what Disney did with Bolt... With Lasseter hitting literally ALL of the Breakfast and Kids Programming, maybe Unkrich can expect to do the same thing... or Maybe we'll get more John in the UK at that time...

Maybe Lasseter will give us World Wide Releases... sometime in the future!

Love the shiny new 3D logo. I was wondering if they'd update the very "1995" old one, and it was very clever to do it through the teaser trailer, rather than just have it appear and us assume "uh, the marketing guys said we had to jazz it up".

Quote from: "luke85"It's even made me slightly more excited about Toy Story Playland! (please don't hurt me...)
No, no! It's great to think the resort will have such a great tie-in after missing so many with Pirates, etc. I just hope when the UK/Europe advertising starts to appear it has a little Disneyland Paris cross-promotion somewhere, like they used to do back in the 90s...

Bo has been a character Many of my collegues on Pixar Plannet have been wondering about Maarten considering she is Woody's Girl... Wheezy however there may be one (or should that be 2 reasons)

Voice of Wheezy, Joe Ranft, Pixar Legend and many a voice in Pixar Movies (Hemlich, Red, Wheezy to name a few) Died during the Production of Cars and as a result is dedicated to the Legend just after the Cinema Sketches with Mack and John Ratzenberger's roles.

Now Randy Newman gave the Vocals of You Got A Friend in me on Toy Story... But when surrounded by Barbies and fitted with a new squeaker Wheezy was given the Singing Voice of Robert Goulet (Who Also Provides the Singing Voice for Mikey in RECESS) Robert Goulet passed away not to long ago.

Its still possible Wheezy could return fitted with another "New" Squeaker and be given 2 totally differing voices under Unkrich in his first Solo shot in the Directors Chair following his position as Co- with Lasseter on "Toy Story 2", alongside "Up" Director Pete Docter's "Monsters Inc", and with Stanton on his Very Fishy Tale "Finding Nemo".

We shall have to wait till June (if your american) or July 23rd if your a Brit

Must have been a temporary Youtube glitch. It works fine now.

Watching that teaser again, I suddenly noticed the real detail that Pixar puts into everything, right down to little things like this. Notice how all the little Leg- uh, plastic building blocks fall apart and scatter as the LGMs drop the letter Y.

Though is it just my eyes deceiving me, or does Buzz look a little... dumpy/short?

Right now over at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con, the people at Disney and Pixar are on stage talking about their upcoming projects. Obviously, we can't all be there, but thanks to the wonderful, wonderful, wonderful Disney Pictures and Disney/Pixar Twitter pages, we can all be informed of what John Lasseter and co are saying right now :P

But anyway, the big news right now is that, whilst discussing his upcoming film, Toy Story 3 Director Lee Unkrich has revealed that "We are proud to announce officially today that Ken in Toy Story 3 will be voiced by Michael Keaton." (Ken of course being Barbie's other half, who will also apparently have a bigger role in this film.)

Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah BATMAN!!!

Upcoming Pixar posted that a special "Groovin' with Ken" faux-documentary introduced him!

I'm wondering if Andy himself will be a much larger character in the film, too. Since it's set as he moves off to college, they can make him look more realistic as they age him. The original character model wouldn't look great in a larger role today.

Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrichmentioned on twitter today that this year's summer animation interns "have to wear matching karate ghis on Fridays", and that whenever a shot is finalized, "they stand in unison and punch and shout." Sounds like fun. I know this is bit of a reach, but could the karate ghis have any relation to the plot of Toy Story 3?Every Summer at Pixar Animation Studios, they take in a new batch of college students for internships. From what I've heard, the interns have to wear a matching outfit on Fridays, its part of a fun group-building hazing ritual. Last year the Summer animation interns had to dress in boyscout outfits (click here to see a photo from Flickr). The boy scout outfit is an obvious reference to the film that the group was working on at the time, Up, which features a wilderness explorer named Russell. So might one of the new Toy Story characters have a karate punch? Could Woody and Buzz be making a trip to Japan, like the infamous scrapped Disney-produced Toy Story 3 concept? Doubtful. It is completely possible that the outfits have nothing to do with any of the projects Pixar is currently developing, but who knows?

Well Caught Pete...

But Any follower of Lee Unkrich on Twitter would also recognise that his Avatar there is of a Doll with a Bald head...

The reason it is led to believe that on each pixar movie something unique happens wether it be a Mustache growing Contest (Ratatouille) or in this case where a section of the team working on the movie all shaved thier head.

Now that sounds like a fun time!

Wether a Character does have a Karate punch... Do we all forget Buzz lightyear's "Karate Chop Action"?

Speaking at a Disney presentation in London's Leicester Square, John Lasseter announced that Timothy Dalton is amongst the cast for their hotly anticipated threequel, playing a toy porcupine called Mr. Pricklepants. Yep. And even better still, Mr. Pricklepants fancies himself as something of a thespian. Score another big gold star on the Pixar perfect casting chart.

Audience members were also treated to the Toy Story 3 clip that played in Venice and also an as-yet unreleased trailer for the film. Here's Empire's take on it:
"Clearly the toys end up being sent to a daycare centre, where they are horribly abused by the little kids - and after that it's time for a break-out attempt to find a safe haven, and hopefully a new owner, in a cruel world. It looks every bit as good as its titanic predecessors."

Total Film has a more in-depth look at the clip here, shedding a bit more light on what path the film could be taking:

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/first-rea ... oy-story-3 (http://www.totalfilm.com/news/first-reaction-toy-story-3)

I've always been positive about this film, but there's always been a bit of doubt that it may get turned down for not meeting the standards of the first two (especially with a very sceptical storyline). Two factors however have given me a very strong hope all along for this film; firstly is that in my opinion Pixar haven't made a bad film yet. Secondly is that I believe that Pixar feel the same way too and wouldn't make it if it wasn't good enough. This report adds another reason to my list :)

If you want to be so excited about this film that you'll be jumping off of the walls in excitement of it's release, read the artical in that link   :D/

Lee Unkrich (via Twitter) has me rocking and rolling!

He has me all over the place with the latest cast announcements that John Lasseter is announcing at D23 Expo

Quote from: "leeunkrich"John Morris, voice of young Andy in TS and TS2, is back as 18-year old Andy in TS3.

Quote from: "leeunkrich"Also joining the Toy Story 3 cast: Jeff Garlin, Bonnie Hunt, Whoopi Goldberg

Garlin previously being Captain B McCrea from WALL-E
Hunt previously being Flint in Monsters Inc and Lightning McQueen's crush Sally

Quote from: "leeunkrich"...along with the previously announced Timothy Dalton as "Mr. Pricklepants"

Right now I am in Fan Boy Heaven!

Lets Rock and O Roll!

"No toy gets left behind" nice tag line.

Rather minimal as a poster though... however it is only a teaser! So its really nice

It just goes to prove how powerful the Toy Story brand is; people can tell what is being promoted just from the number 3. Amazing :)

Big[ish] - For video, click link. [spoiler:2tui96dm]Over the weekend Disney released a new television spot for the limited engagement 3D rerelease of Toy Story and Toy Story 2, which you can check out embedded after the jump. Attached to the special double feature on October 2nd will be the first real trailer for Toy Story 3. Jim Hill has the scoop on the new trailer, which gives a ton of new details on the upcoming third film. If you don't want to know, don't read on, but chances are you'll be watching the trailer when it is released, so why not?

[The new trailer shows] Woody and the gang at Sunnyside Daycare. Where life among the toddlers looks like something out of "Lord of the Flies." ... Buzz and Co. get absolutely brutalized by these 3-year-olds. Which is why they decide that "We're busting out of here." The only problem is – during their initial escape attempt – the Space Ranger gets severely damaged. To the point that Woody & friends are forced to hit Lightyear's reset button. Which then puts Buzz into Spanish-speaking mode. ... When Buzz is in Spanish-speaking mode – he then becomes this hot-blooded, flamenco-dancing romantic figure prone to grand gestures. Which Jessie winds up being quite taken with.

Hill speculates that given the promotional catchphrase for Toy Story 3 is "No Toy Gets Left Behind", we'll assume that the third film is more of an epic adventure story than the first two films. Lee Unkrich said at Comic-Con that Toy Story 3 story team had actually drawn inspiration from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, and that the third film will feel like the third part of one fairly seamless story.[/spoiler:2tui96dm]

Didn't you guys notice this in the trailer? She's meant to lose it over the years (with Andy). It appears to be quite a clever way to show how time passes by, and how they get damaged, broken, etc; more realistic. If you look closely at the characters in the pictures and trailer, you can see scratches, wear and tear, etc on some of them; very subtle, but very effective! :)

From usatoday;

QuoteTo mark this week's arrival of the third and final trailer for Toy Story 3, due June 18, Disney and Pixar have begun to officially introduce the 14 new toys that will join Woody, Buzz and the gang as they cope with life after their owner, Andy, heads off to college. They eventually land at a day care center, where they suffer abuse at the hands of over-eager toddlers. Making their debut:

•Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear. Lotso, as he is known, marks a milestone for the computer-animated franchise that began in 1995 and continued in 1999 as the first plush toy. "Back when the first two films were made, the technology was not there to handle the fur and make the character move believably like a stuffed animal," says Lee Unkrich, longtime Pixar-ite and director of Toy Story 3. "Eleven years later, Lotso is still a huge challenge but he looks amazing."

Unkrich describes the pink bear, who made a cameo appearance under a little girl's bed in last year's Up, as "a warm, grandfatherly figure who oversees all the toys at the day care center."

However, there has been speculation that Lotso, voiced by veteran actor Ned Beatty, might not be as cuddly and nice as he seems. Perhaps making him suspect: He smells like strawberries, both in the film and as an actual tie-in product. When asked if the fuzzy fellow has ulterior motives, the director will only say, "I suppose anything is true."

•Ken doll. Barbie, last seen playing tour guide to Hamm the piggy bank and Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 2, is rewarded by finally being able to meet this so-called "swinging bachelor."

"Ken has changed a lot over the years," says Unkrich. "But I wanted this particular one from the '80s that epitomized a certain vain, handsome, well-groomed look." This model of Ken, voiced by Michael Keaton of Batman fame, certainly doesn't lack for accessorizing, what with the bandanna, sockless loafers and flashy gold belt.

"Ken, in a lot of ways, steals the movie," the director says. "Michael is incredibly funny."

•Peas-in-a-Pod. What child doesn't love peas? Probably quite a few, but not when they are as sweet as this felt-covered threesome. "Even jock guys, when they see these peas, think they are adorable," says Unkrich of the trio whose voice talent has yet to be announced.

The tradition of sneaking in characters from the next upcoming Pixar production will continue with Toy Story 3, with a drive-by appearance from a cast member of Cars 2— which, Unkrich assures, will still open in June 2011 and not December 2011 as was misreported this week.

"Nice ascot"

Aaaa-mazing.

After the Stinky Pete trick it's hard to know whether to trust these new characters. There also seems to be a bit of a turnaround in the trailer where they suddenly decide to leave the daycare... can't wait to see how it plays out.

I presume the western train is a dream sequence or something?

I saw the 3D trailer, that was quite fun.
I'm not convinced that the 3D will add to it, and in my opinion it would have worked just as well in 2D but hey.
Whether I'll go see it depends on how much money I have at the time as 3D does cost more than I'm generally willing to spend on a cinema visit.

I heard a group of Disney bloggers from all over the world was invited to go see the latest work-in-progress version of Toy Story 3 at the Pixar Studios in San Fransisco yesterday. Michiel Veenstra (a dutch radio-deejay) went there, so I read about it on his D-log. It's in dutch, but maybe interesting for those who can read it: http://www.d-log.nl/ (http://www.d-log.nl/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

I also saw a 3D trailer went I went to see Alice, but like with Alice I didn't think that the 3D added much for me.

I get the feeling that Lots-o-Huggin Bear...
[spoiler:39u6o9fm]might be the (or "a") villain in the film, and after a quick google it looks like I might not be alone... He seems slightly similar to Stinky Pete, who you didn't immediately know would flick the TV remote.. (ahh, remember when you didn't know Toy Story 2 by heart?)[/spoiler:39u6o9fm]
I can't wait to see how it ends. Whether they rejoin Andy, or he keeps them as memories, still plays with them... gives them to his kids?! Toy Story 2 was still very open-ended, but everything Toy Story 3 seems to suggest something deeper and more final. Will they make us cry?

Here's the Japanese trailer, Lee Unkrich just posted a link to it from his twitter...

It's way beyond my language barrier to understand any of what the characters are saying but I guess it's along the same lines as the English trailer that is online... this one seems to have a few different scenes in it though, ones i've not seen before too!!

if anyone has a link to the same trailer translated in English I'd love to see it!

Lee Unkrich posted links to these mission style videos last week on Twitter...

They're little profile clips of a couple of characters that give a bit of information to their involvement in the story, no new characters appear in the mission profiles though yet I don't think... these ones feature Buzz, Woody, Rex & Hamm.

Ooh that's sounding good, I'm guessing it's opening early for the usual couple of preview days we usually get, is there any word if the 3D screenings will be opening then aswell on that date too?

I don't think I've ever been so excited about the opening of a film since TS2, I'm getting excited seeing all the new toys and merchandise thats been released and being released soon, i've already got myself a Mr Potato head tshirt from topman at the weekend... I'm even considering getting "Andy" tattooed on my foot on my foot on the release date!

I caught an advert on ITV yesterday advetising a competition to win tickets to the London Premiere, they seem to have a bit of a mini site for the film on the ITV website with some videos of Rex playing football with Mr Potato Head.

Can all be found here...

Also seems that the uk release date has been brought forward to Monday 19th July!!

I know how you feel.  I'm going to a 2pm showing (the very first showing in my town, I might add ;) ) and I'm ready to go already!  If everything goes to plan too it'll be my first movie in this new 3D (our cinema has finally got a 3D screen/projector/whatever, it's only 1 so far but I'm happy).  Can't wait  8)

It's funny how every time I've see a Toy Story movie for the first time it's been a different experience.  The first TS I was just very young so I saw it on VHS, then 2 came out and (because our local cinema was being renovated at the time) we had to make a 40min-1 hour drive there just to see it and today it could be a whole new experience in 3D (oh and I have to take a 2 mile walk to the cinema, my parents' car is at the M.O.T   ](*,)  )

I was as excited as I was moved, I laughed as much as I cried; Toy Story 3 is nothing short of a masterpiece! Growing up with the Toy Story films and characters puts a lot of pressure on this one to keep the bar high, but it still managed to push it to Infinity and Beyond! It had to deliver, and it did - big time! =D>

Night and Day, the short the was placed in front of the film must not be forgotten either - it was very simple but clever and effective in both story and design.  8)

I was also fortunate enough to visit the Disney Store at the Westfield shopping centre in London before seeing the film, in order to meet the film's director Lee Unkrich, and producer Darla K. Anderson. Both were amazing and kind people - I managed to get them to sign my Art of Toy Story 3 book (which they wrote the forward for), filmed them answering a question about Pixar for my Pixar school project (essay and presentation for extra uni points!), and got a photo with them too! To say I'm over the moon with my day today is an understatement! :D/

Overall the film is incredible!!! The only problem is I need to see it again now!

Agree 100% with you Butlin.  Toy Story was my childhood, I used to watch the movies daily so I was a little worried when I first heard a third is planned.  Like you said though Pixar really have delivered here and has some of the emotional moments I've ever witnessed for me in media.
[spoiler:2insb58k]Even the very last scene where the clouds where the same as the ones in Andy's room got me all soppy   :P[/spoiler:2insb58k]

I've been thinking about this short for a while after viewing.  At first I didn't like it so much because of the overhaul of 2nd animation in it.  But after thinking more about it (and a little help from a Disney podcast) I'm starting to like it more.  It's not my favourite Pixar short but its not my least favourite either, somewhere in the middle).

I can't wait to see Toy Story 3. Hopefully our favorite cinema is showing an English version, too, because Walt Studios Germany and Austria changed the synchronisation to some German celebrities. Although these comedians are doing a great job, I don't like to see Woody and Buzz with new voices. It would destroy the movie for me.

I saw it last night and walking out of the cinema at the end felt like I'd come off a rollercoaster, there were so many different strong emotions running through me I had to try my damn hardest not to let a tear slip out... (I failed).

I might even plan a trip to the Imax to catch it for a second time... it's definately worth seeing again and again and again!!

It was well worth the 10 year wait and had I known it was going to be as spectacular as it is I would have quite happily waited another 10 years to see it!!

Just got home from seeing it and I shed some many emotions throughout the film.

I cried, I laughed and I cried some more.  All in one truly fantastic film, well done Pixar you did it again.

I would tell anyone who hasn't seen it yet to take tissues, I was bawling like a baby and for those with young ones be warned they might get a bit scared, My DD ended up getting rather distressed during one part and asked if we could leave, mind you I was sat there blubbering like a baby lol.

Sad to see the film end, Part me of hopes for TS4 but I don't know how they could top this one.

We watched this last night and it was fab, the whole family went and we all loved it. It was emotional in places but none of us cried not even me and im hormonal lol. It was much better than I expected it too be. I think they could bring out a TS4 by replacing Andy?

I can't wait for the Toy Story short that will be shown before Cars 2 next year.

I wonder what else Lee Unkrich has up his sleeves as he said they will carry on doing stuff with the gang but not in the lines of a 4th movie.

Oh I'd forgotten about that...

More than anything, the film is just plain clever. Every line is the best line, every frame is the best frame, every twist is more unexpected than the last. I sound like a press release but wow, when Jessie says, quite seriously, "get the tortilla!" the inventiveness is just in hyperdrive.

And though I didn't cry (found it more poignant than sad, and was possibly too awe-struck)...
[spoiler:3hi7bxrh]The incinerator scene was the only "they might die!" scene I've ever seen where, even knowing they wouldn't, I could barely breathe for the emotion.[/spoiler:3hi7bxrh]
I also just loved (and this is a MEGA spoiler, beware)...
[spoiler:3hi7bxrh]That the one thing which originally endangered Buzz and Woody is what saves them from near-death in the end. Just PERFECT![/spoiler:3hi7bxrh]
I can't get over how perfect it is. Possibly I'll still enjoy Toy Story 2 more in the future for all the Woody's Roundup fun, but I never thought my favourite film would be matched. We're so lucky Pixar got to make this film properly.

The only thing that shocked me...
[spoiler:3hi7bxrh]Was the lack of Bo Peep. I know she was thrown out, but as the minutes ticked toward the end I kept thinking... she's going to turn up now... she's going to be living at the neighbours' house or something... she'll be found at Sunnyside..... nothing. Very strange, I thought. Unless Pixar really did want to teach us about true mortality. Or this is going to be addressed in the upcoming short?[/spoiler:3hi7bxrh]

[spoiler:3urqwrgm]I kinda hope she doesn't make an appearance in the short.  I was talking about this in another forum this morning.  I feel it adds to the realism and sadness of the story not having her there as it shows what can happen in the space of so many years and that only the toys that were special to Andy stayed.  Although I could see the short being about her turning up at Sunnyside, since everyone seems to be talking about her absents from the movie.[/spoiler:3urqwrgm]

[spoiler:3arb5pwi]Yes, it definitely adds a lot to the film and I'm actually quite glad she didn't suddenly show up at the end, it would have been too neat and too sweet. Would have taken away the pain for Woody moving on. But he deserves his girl back at some point... maybe not immediately, but why not a few years in the future again, once he's suffered enough? Either that or meet someone new.

It all explains why the Bo Peep's Sheep game was replaced in Midway Mania, anyway![/spoiler:3arb5pwi]

It took me a few seconds to work out what that was meant to represent... scary. Maybe they're just trying to cater for the "Sids" as much as the "Andys"?

I'm surprised they're not selling -

It is playing at the Gaumont in the Village. Has been since the 14th. Not sure if it's in English though, we were there from the 14th till the 18th but it was so busy we didn't think it would be worth it and so I waited till Monday to see it in the UK.

Such an amazing film, loved every second of it. It's just so perfectly crafted and the journey just keeps on going, one huge emotional rollercoaster. I was hoping the green aliens would be in this and I'm more than satisfied with their contribution to the film :D

Toy Story short before Cars 2? Don't remember hearing about that, intrigued times.

Saw Toy Story 3 over the weekend. To put it bluntly, I've been looking forward to this for ages, I can still remember watching the first one in 1996, and I still watch it to this day (along with the second too).

As a kids animated film, definitely 10/10, but as a Toy Story film, 8/10.

It was amazing, and hilarius, especially Hamm's one liners, and spanish Buzz. However, for me, it was too sad and despressing. there were just too many sad scenes, and they shouldn't have finished the film with one, as your left to leave feeling a bit down. It should have been a funny scene at the end, showing all the toys in there new home etc.

Disney/Pixar are amazing, but it seems they're now fixed on sad films (I've heard Up is very depressing too).

Maybe its just me, I dunno. Maybe I'll go see it again....

I haven't seen Toy Story 3 yet, but I agree with you Martyn. When Pixar started out, their films were primarily hilarious and uplifting. But with their recent releases (WALL-E, Up, Toy Story 3) they seem more focused on creating deeper, more emotional, sadder films. They're undoubtedly making better, more thought-provoking films now, but I miss the lighter, funny Pixar of old.

All films need happy moments and sad moments. The problem is that Pixar seem determined to drag out the sad moments. They dwell on them a little too much, in my opinion. I guess it all depends what your own definition of "entertainment" is. For me, being made to feel sad isn't being entertained.

Sorry to those who still haven't seen it, but here's another one of those dreaded spoiler boxes! Just stick in there and don't give in to the temptation - it'll be more than worth it in the end ;)

[spoiler:kvfhvn9w]I see what you're saying Martyn, but I actually think that it perfectly concludes the trilogy, tying up Andy's story with a nice big bow as it were (let's face it, he's as pivotal a character in the films as Buzz, Woody and the Gang, even if you see him for a fraction of the time - these films are Andy's story too!). Having more time dedicated to seeing them at their new home in the main part of the film, I feel, would take away from this, and could lessen the effect it has (on being Andy's story, and about the character's connection with him).

But do you not think that the clips played during the credits achieve what you've said in concluding with "a funny scene at the end, showing all the toys in there new home etc"? They lift the mood completely with consistent laugh-a-second gags showing what happens to Sunnyside and Andy's/Bonnie's Toys. I don't know about the rest of you, but it was the perfect length needed for me to dry up my tears ;)[/spoiler:kvfhvn9w]

BTW. sorry to rub it in for those who haven't seen it, but I've just seen it again - and I'm ready for round 3! :P

Whoever told you that must not have read the film very well.

As Butlin Boy says, those final wrap-ups are completely satisfied by the credits and to be honest, I think for Toy Story 3 to be worthwhile, to have a point to it (not just sending Buzz on a fun but ultimately empty jaunt to Taiwan as Disney wanted those years ago), it really needed this emotion and poignancy.

The final shot before fade to black was beautifully subtle in particular. From playtime to the real world.

Anyway, I doubt Cars 2 or will be that emotional.

I actually saw Toy Story 3 today, in 2-D, not 3-D. I feel strangely guilty for not being super enthusiastic about it. It was very well done, but I don't think it's the greatest film ever made. There's so much hype for films now, on Twitter and on forums like this, which increasingly (in my experience) leads to disappointment.

I rate films in terms of how much I enjoy them, which seems pretty straight forward. And, thinking about it, I enjoyed Toy Story 3 less than Up, which I enjoyed less than the Princess and the Frog. I didn't laugh that many times during Toy Story 3, except for the part with Ken trying on clothes, and Buzz Lightyear in Spanish mode. And I didn't cry at all, which surprised me, given how everyone has said Toy Story 3 is the most moving film of all time.

So, yeah, Toy Story 3. Definitely go and see it, just lower your expectations a bit.

I should add that, my impression of Toy Story 3 may have been slightly skewed towards the negative, because I saw the first 20 minutes of the film with the entire right-half of the screen out of focus! And I don't mean just slightly, I mean so blurred that you couldn't actually read the LIGHTYEAR sticker on the front of Buzz!

I also saw Day & Night the same way, with the right-half of the screen out of focus. The "Day" character appeared to be in the distance most of the time. It wasn't an artistic depth of field effect created by Pixar. It was clearly a problem with the projector.

But, and here's a lesson that was learnt, everyone has the power to change things. I endured 20 minutes of Toy Story 3 out of focus before realising that, despite the auditorium being full of adults, nobody was going to do anything about it. I couldn't believe it. Everyone was just going to sit there like lemons, either too unobservant to notice the problem, or too lazy to get up and fix it. And as the film went on, I found that increasingly frustrating.

So... I got up out of my seat and exited Toy Story 3, shortly after the characters arrived at Sunnyside Daycare, and I found a member of staff who I explained the problem too. He was very understanding. He walkie-talkied the projectionist and, a few minutes later, I was back in the auditorium watching Toy Story 3 in focus.

A little story for you there :-)

Also... I keep reading that if Toy Story 3 doesn't make you cry, you're a robot. Well say hello to Mr Autonomatron :-)

Toy Story 3 is the top grossing animated film ever. Finally Pixar is on the top again. I still don't get how Dreamworks with the green ogre could be so successful. In my opinion Dreamworks movies just don't have to quality of Pixar movies, but I have to admit the Shrek 1 is a funny movie I enjoyed.

Toy Story 3 is one of the best Pixar Films I have ever seen. A great end to a fabulous trilogy. I must have cried for the last 20 minutes of the film because it was so sad. I don't believe that anyone could not have cried when seeing this film. I don't ever remember crying so much at a Toy Story film. A great job by a great company. It would be brilliant to watch it again and again but I don't think I could face the crying. At least Disney have found a film that makes men cry too.

Toy Story 3 crosses the 1 billion mark today:
QuoteThe Walt Disney Studios announced today that Toy Story 3 will surpass the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office today. It marks the first time a studio will have two $1 billion movies in one year:

Two weeks after becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time, Disney-Pixar's Toy Story 3 will cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office today, joining Alice in Wonderland as the second $1 billion film this year from The Walt Disney Studios – the first studio in history to accomplish this feat. Disney first crossed the $1 billion threshold with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in 2006. Toy Story 3 becomes the only animated film to reach this milestone and the seventh title in industry history.

"It's been an incredible year as we saw the Pixar team bring Buzz and Woody back to the big screen and watched Tim Burton's vision for Alice in Wonderland take the world by storm," said Rich Ross, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. "These box office triumphs prove that creative storytelling brought to life by imaginative, inspired and talented professionals is something audiences respond to the world over."

As of Thursday (8/26/10), Toy Story 3 tallied more than $592.9 million internationally, Disney's largest international animated release. Latin American audiences have contributed $138 million making Toy Story 3 the highest grossing Disney film ever released in the region. Toy Story 3 is the most successful UK release in Disney history and currently stands as the fourth biggest title in territory history with $102.4 million in box office receipts so far. In Japan, the film has taken in $111.2 million and spent five consecutive weeks as the #1 movie. Toy Story 3 currently ranks as the #7 film in global box office history and domestically ranks #9 with $404.6 million in receipts to date.

Alice in Wonderland began setting records during its opening weekend (March 5-7), becoming the biggest March opening in industry history, the highest 3D opening ever and The Walt Disney Studios' biggest opening for a non-sequel film. Internationally, the film went on to tally more than $690 million, becoming Disney's biggest overseas release of all time and the fourth biggest title ever released overseas. Worldwide, the film took in $1.0243 billion, ranking it as the #5 film in global box office history.

Just returned from the cinema - what a ride! I guess Pixar cannot make a bad movie, this however is one of their best.

They took it up a step from Toy Story to Toy Story 2, but they took it several steps up from Toy Story 2 to this one. This is a piece of art not just a piece of entertainment (like many animation movies including some from Pixar). Not the best from Pixar, that is still Wall-E for me.

Well, eventhough I guess most of you have seen it already it will be in a spoiler :)

[spoiler:23738g82]The start of the movie: this delivers the half hour of classic Toy Story action - great fun, but not more than this. It has some moments like when Buzz and Woody just look at each other after the "phone trick" and the look from Woody when placed in the "college" box away from the others.

The time at Sunnyside: This was great! I loved the characters and the plot of it being a prison. The references to one of the best movies ever Shawshank Redemption was subtle but great. This was also the part that has the killer joke line for me, when Ken and Barbie say to each other that it was like they were made for each other. Spanish Buzz was great fun too - something to put a smile upon your face in a dark part of the movie.

Woody's time at Bonnies: A small part of the movie, but a significant part. The way Woody smiled after the playtime, showed him what being a toy is all about - making connections and making your kid happy. Mr. Pricklepants was AMAZINGLY funny!!

The escape: Reminded me a bit of some of the scenes from the other movies, but it was great fun.

The last 15 minutes was for me the most powerful of a Pixar movie (beating the silent passage in the beginning of UP with the length of Buzz Lightyear button.). The scene at the dump had you on the edge of your seat - at one point  actually thought they were going to kill them off - for me a hard but brave ending showing the gang's togetherness and the fact that together you are strong. But this would have made the movie non child friendly. The scene where they all hold hands was the first emotional highlight of this 15 minutes. The tears was pushing but were interupted by the brilliant part with the claw - a stroke of genius!

The end scene was perfect and for me aged 20, it was very emotional and I almost cried. I watched the first movies while playing with my toys and now I'm grown up and withing the next couple of years I am going away. It just hit me very deep and thinking about now I get very emotional too. It is the perfect ending of the series and please do not make a TS4 - that would be sad. The one who said that this is Andy's story was absolutely right and this was proofed by this ending.

The scenes during the credits cheered you up and you were leaving the theater with a big smile and not as an emotional mess, although you had been it just 3 minutes earlier. Pixar magic[/spoiler:23738g82]

It has the perfect mix of emotions, jokes, action and movie connections/spoofs and it is a 9.50 for me. The only thing a bit too silly for me was [spoiler:23738g82]Mr. Tortilla Head[/spoiler:23738g82]

What you get in the box:

Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 Blu-Rays
Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 DVDs
Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 Digital Copies
Special features DVD(s?)

Link (//http://geektyrant.com/news/2010/9/12/toy-story-trilogy-10-disc-dvd-collectors-set-box-art-reveale.html)

No idea on the price yet - or if it will even make it's wait over to Europe - but I'd expect it to cost an arm and a Mr Potato Head (see what I did there?.. yes it was cheesy   ).  As someone who doesn't have any Toy Story movies on DVD let alone Blu-Ray this is something I might consider, if it isn't too steep that is :P

I did the amazing "Keys to the Kingdom" backstage tour at the Magic Kingdom last week and in the ultilidors were signs up for all the cast members to collect their FREE copy of Toy Story 3 on DVD.  It was such a huge hit, they are giving the DVD away as a thank you to all cast members
