Title: Nicolai's Halloween Trip Report 11th-15th October 2008
Post by: DLP-Photos.com on October 15, 2008, 09:58:43 PM
Now I am back home from an amazing trip and I have a lot of photos and stories to tell. I will begin today with a little pre-trip report and then add a new day one or two times a day.

Pre-trip:

After work on friday the 10th I just waited for the clock to say 14.00 saturday and I used the waiting to pack and find the latest news and show times for our trip. I packed my camera with both lenses and a lot of batteries, a magazine for the bus and of course my iPod touch with a lot of Disneyland music and videos.

When the time arrived me, my mom and my sister was on our way to the magic (my sister's first time since 2001, when she also had worked there - time to recapture the magic and when I offered to pay half the trip, she couldn't resist).

The bus leaved Aalborg at 14.00 and arrived at Disneyland at app. 9 in the morning, so we have to sleep on the bus which isn't that funny when you are 2+ m tall, but I survived (with a little help from my sister's Nintendo DS, although I do seem to like my soda very much too )

The Bus Company, which I have always used, use to show a couple of Walt Disney Classics in the evening which I was really looking forward to, but I was in for a big disappointment - they showed Arthur and the Minimoys! Not the movie I had in mind :( But it didn't matter that much - the magic was just awaiting.

I always find it kinda interesting to drive through especially Hamburg and some of the Ruhr district in Germany when it is dark. This time I tried to capture some of the many lights in Hamburg ( i was sleeping in the Ruhr District)

In the morning we stopped at a restaurant just 10 km outside of Disneyland Resort Paris for breakfast and some toothbrushing. However we were in for another (and almost the last :)) disappointment - the bathroom flours were all wet (it was not water  ) and the breakfast buffet was closed so we got one croissant and one pain au chocolait - not the best breakfast for almost 9 €!

A funny little story from the bus that just shows the magic of Disney: These bus trips use to just be children families, but this time there was an old couple with no grandchildren or anything - just going by themselves. I was surprised in a really good way by this and it was a true Disney moment when the husband (app. 70+ years old) came through the hotel singing "It's a small world" :D I love Disney and what it does to everybody.

I will report on the first day at Disney tomorrow and it will contain a lot of photos and great moments :)

Awsome trip report so far Nicolai can't wait to read the rest!
It was the same on my last trip, with an old couple traveling alone it was great!
It's going to be me one day...though I'll probably be either fully alone or with friends lol

I do not have the time make a complete day report today, but I will just post my expensive shopping results:

Here is an overview: from left: Disney Treasures, From Sketch to Reality, 15th anniversary cd, Pins, WDCC Sleepy Mine Figurine, "Imagineering", WDS Photo Frame, Jack Skellington as Santa, 15th anniversary playing cards.

Here is my second addition to my very little but already very expensive collection of WDCC Figurines - Sleepy in his mine cart :D

The Pins:

Walt Disney - Band Concert Limited Edition tribute pin

15th anniversary pin

2008 Halloween pin

(//http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k377/forza_united/Disneyland5thDay_Nicolai11.jpg) (//http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k377/forza_united/Disneyland5thDay_Nicolai12.jpg)

Crush's Coaster and Tower of Terror

So it was a very expensive trip for me especially when you take in mind that I too payed the trip for me and my mom and half of my sisters trip, but it was completely worth it!

More to come tomorrow!

Great Report so far Forza.  =D>  =D>

Looking forward to the rest.  You've collected some really nice merchandise there aswell.. :D/  :D/

I also agree with peoples comments about the O.A.Ps, I'd like to think that I'll be like that at their age, humming or whistling a classic Disney tune.  Goes to show that Disney is timeless.. :D

Day 1 – The magic begins:

We knew that it was low season so we did not expect too many people, much entertainment or good weather. None of these predictions were completely true, but you will find out.

So now the magic begins...

We arrived at our hotel at app. 9.15 in the morning – we stayed at the Newport Bay Club. I checked in, as I had payed and was at all the papers. At first the guy couldn't find my reservation so the sweat began to run down my bag, but eventually she found it and I was offered a room right away with a "very very long walk" (10 mins) or I could come back to get a better room after 15. I decided to come back so after putting the luggage in the luggage room and a quick walk through the Bay Store we went for the park.

We stopped in Buffalo Trading Company, which was transformed to a little Halloween shop. Already in this shop we admitted that this trip was going to be very expensive! Now we were there – the most beautiful place in the world – the Fantasia Gardens. When everybody (and that means EVERYBODY) goes through the entrance gates they are transformed and this time into the real Halloween mood.

I have never been to DLRP during Halloween before and I was very impressed by the great and funny decorations in Main Street U.S.A. and Frontierland – I loved it. The music loop was just helping to create an amazing atmosphere – my mom and my sister even bought two sets of Halloween ears (which I used once in a while).

We started off with a quick go at Buzz (my sister's first time) and I realized that I needed some warming up (50.000 – but my mom and sis got under 10.000). We stopped in the "never-ending" tunnel which was a bit disturbing.

Afterwards we just watched a part of the Disney's Villain Halloween Showtime which was a great show – the actors was brilliant and I actually really liked the pumpkin girls. We did not watch the end of the show as we wanted to move along to Pirates of the Caribbean – 5 mins waiting time = great!

The attraction was great as always and it still is one of my favorite attractions. However I was a disappointed at some effects that did not work: the mayor in the well, the woman in the window and the fighting pirates. I do believe that this attraction needs a bigger refurbishment (but PLEASE no Sparrow or Barbossa).

Afterwards we went for a bite at Au Chalet de la Marionette where I got a very dry Nuggets menu, but the great themening of this restaurant counterbalanced this by far. After lunch we went to Frontierland, where we wanted to see Minnie and the Bat Boys, however the next was more than 1½ hours away, so we got a Big Thunder Fast Pass. In the mean time we wanted to try Phantom Manor, but we were met by a Cast member who told us that they had technical problems. Here I was truly amazed by the quick entertainment (considering it being low season) – they quickly send out 3 Halloween entertainers on stilts who entertained the many waiting people in the hot weather (app. 25 degrees and sunny :D).

We took advantage of the weather and took a ride with Molly Brown. It was absolutely stunning with the colours of fall and the beautiful weather! And I got a couple of shots of Big Thunder Mountain and rivers of the far west. After that we used our Fast Passes for Big Thunder and it was great as always!

Now we went for the Trick or Treat stage right next to the Cowboy Cookout Barbeque and it was a great little stage and Minnie and the Bat Boys was great too. It is a small musical show with The Bat Boys Orchestra, Minnie, Ghost-Donald and the star of the show Gruzella! She was a great actor and she sang brilliant. It was a great medley of Halloween songs, villain songs and a couple of Michael Jackson songs (Thriller and Bad) – a great show!

After this we just went back to the hotel before watching the Once Upon a Dream Parade. This was amazing! First of all the Halloween Pre Parade – it was not very big but the performers were great (I really liked the pumpkin people) and Jack & Sally were absolutely amazing and their horse-drawn wagon was stunning! A great Pre Parade with a very, very brilliant soundtrack.

Now for the Main Parade. First of all "Just Like We Dreamed It" is very qualified successor of "Dancin'" although it does not top it. I really like the idea of making two movies per float and the combinations seemed obvious in both placement and "dream". The scents did not work on all the floats, but when they did they were very strong. My favorite floats was without a doubt "Dreams of Laughter and Fun" and "Dreams of Power", with the Ursula AA being the most impressing of the entire parade. (We discussed whether Simba was an animatronic or not, is he?)

After this me and my sister went for a ride on Indiana Jones, which was great, although I always say to myself: "Why did I queue for this?" when I am in the queue, but it is great fun! We got fast passes for BTM for the evening, which would be in the dark (We had never experienced it in real dark – only summer dusk).

After this we went for a pizza at Colonel Hathi's Pizza Outpost, but unfortunately it was closed ? We went to Bella Notte instead to get our Pizza Royal (according to the sign still ham and mushrooms), but when we got our pizzas it contained olives instead, which me and my mom do not like, but fortunately my sister loved them. After this we went to Peter Pan's Flight, where my sister was asked to be the test person for the waiting line (never tried this before :D)

Now we went for Big Thunder at Night – we were there 40 mins before the fast pass and as the waiting time said 20 mins, me and my sister just went for the normal queue – the waiting time however was more like 50 mins, but the ride was great fun in dark! In the meantime my mom bought the Minnie plush in her Halloween outfit.

After this I took a lot of night photos – in the summer it never gets really, really dark, so here are some of my night shots:

This day also contained attractions like It's a small world, Pinocchio and Snow White. I know it is a bit long to read, but I will be back with day 2 tomorrow!

For this photo I actually had to queue at closing time :O - everybody wanted this shot, but I do believe that it was worth the wait.

Just a little addition - I'm working on my new Fotki Album, which will contain all the photos (mine, my moms and my sisters) and I will be posting the link as soon as this is ready, as I have way to many photos to post them here, so it is really hard to pick the photos for this report.

@N2O: BTM is awesome at night - the mountain is almost completely dark so you can just see the beautifully lightened Thunder Mesa - Beautiful! :D

About the night shots - I took a lot of them and you will be able to see them on fotki hopefully by tomorrow evening. I am working on day 2 right now and it will be up within an hour...

Here is my second report...

Trip Report Day 2 – Walt Disney Studios and shopping evening:

Day 2 began early – we had asked for breakfast at 7.45 to take advantage of the EMH and arrive at the breakfast restaurant before it was completely full. After a good breakfast we went towards the parks. In Disney Village we made a reservation for Café Mickey in the evening. I must say that EMH is a great way to reward guests staying at the hotels and it was some good attractions that were open. My sister tried Space Mountain (First time Mission 2 – she actually found it better) at first – in the meantime me and my mom waited at a bench, where I forgot my sister's boyfriend's expensive HD Camcorder, but fortunately it was there when I realized it – phuh ? After this we tried Buzz for the third time and I was the best again, but still bad  - 75.000.

We walked to the studios for the opening, however, they had already opened so the waiting line for Crush was already 60 mins, but me and my sister went for the queue anyway. I think I saw Kristof in the line (and in the hotel Sunday), is that possible? I really wanted to try this attraction due to the dark ride part, but I was very nervous about the coaster part, so the 60 mins wait was not good as I tend to worry a bit too much about such things. Just before we were to board our car, it broke down! ? This was not what I needed and I ended up being so worried that I felt really sick, so I had to leave the queue, but my sister stayed. She enjoyed the dark ride part but did not fancy the coaster part. I ended up being quite happy that I did not try it.

Shouldn't they look to find a more permanent solution to all these technical problems – it is not great advertising that I (and everybody else) can tell my friends that the ride broke down three times this day.

We did not try Cars (I could not fit into the cars anyway), but I have to say that Toon Studio is a much needed expansion for the studios. It is amazingly themed and the expansion possibilities are obvious. I loved the atmosphere!

After this we went to see Moteurs, Action! I do believe that my sister was very impressed. Me and my mom was just as impressed at the two first times we watched it. Everything went great although the motorbike went on fire to in the "burning man sequence". I think I heard sometime that this is not supposed to happen at all – is this true? The firemen were very quick to turn off the fire in the motorcycle.

Then for the worst experience in the park (with the park bringing the experience, the worst experience at all comes tomorrow). We always get our lunch in Studio 1 at Restaurant En Coulisse. First of all: all the tables were taken and the cast members did not want to open the first floor and all the queues were very long. Then me and my sister was in the queue for 50 minutes and when we came to the desk a couple of german women just shouted their way through the line and they succeeded! It was not that fun to wait almost an hour to get your dinner when all the queues are open during low season.

I loved the Hollywood Boulevard – this is the way the studio should be developing and although I did not try it the Tower of Terror is the single most impressive attraction that I have ever seen! I loved the little Pin Shop on Hollywood Boulevard.

Throughout the day we also tried Animagique, Cinemagique, Studio Tram Tour, Rock'n'Rollercoaster(only my sister) and Flying Carpets before we ended the day with Stitch: Live!, which was very refreshing and very funny. Stitch interacted with a man from Germany, who did not enjoy it at all – he just sad there with his arms crossed answering almost all the questions and comments with a quite "yes"

We went home to the hotel with my camera before Café Mickey – on the way we grabbed some Ice Cream Scoops from Haägen-Dasz which is my favorite Ice Cream!

Now for Café Mickey – that was amazing! The food was great (I got a custom made Pizza Capriciossa and Baloo's Chocolate Trutti Fruity – Mmmmm) The atmosphere was great, when the first birthday (out of 6) began I just started to clap a long with the song without even thinking. We got some pictures with some characters and especially Eeyore really liked us. He "ran into" me 4 times and kissed me too haha  I would eat at least one dinner here on every one of my future trips!

Eeyore stole my sisters ears to put them on my head - he was a bit crazy

My Sister's lamb dish

My wonderful dessert - Fruit Fondue :D

After this – SHOPPING TIME. And just as predicted it was very expensive. I bought my WDCC Sleepy figurine and "Sketch to Reality" and my sister bought a wooden Mickey Christmas Figurine, which was lovely. We bought a lot of little stuff too. In the evening in the hotel we packed most of our stuff, so we could get out of the hotel as quick as possible in the morning.

Just a couple of photos from the Newport Bay Store:

Great report Nicolai!!

And you have some wonderful pictures, love them! The one of Discoveryland must be one of the best I've ever seen of that area, it looks just perfect!! (can't wait to go back and copy you, he he he....)

Sorry you didn't get to go on Crush (specially after waiting for so long) The same happened to us when we went (and after around 2 hours waiting it broke down again with us in the middle of the rollercoaster bit...) We got on it again straight after, and I confess, I didn't enjoy the rollercoaster much... I was too terrified to enjoy it. Maybe if the queues were better I would try it again, but for now I don't keep a pleasant memory of it...

And I've never seen the bike on fire in the stunt show... so unless they've changed it, I don't think it's meant to happen... (the picture of the window breaking down is brilliant, by the way)

Really looking forward to the rest of your report!

And I can understand you so much you don't wanna try all the fast rides/rollercoasters - it's absolute the same with me, I also always think too much about it and am scared then  BTM has always been much fun for me, in 2000 I first tried Indy - backwards. Which was fast, but okay too ;)! In 2004, my boyfriend convinced me to also try it forwards.
Last year I first tried SM:M2 for the very first time - I was really nervous and scared, but in the end I loved it :)! The same was with Crush's Coaster. I was scared when I heard the people inside screaming. It was pretty wild, but the spinning wasn't bad at all, so I really liked that, too! It's a shame that it broke down so often when you were there, I ask myself why they can't fix this pretty new ride?!
This year I told myself to try RnRC for the first time. My heart is already beating when I just think about this extreme fast start that everybody's talking about, but I have to be brave and try it

Was "From Sketch to Reality" still 45 Euros? Maybe I wanna buy it this year too...

Your nightshots are really great. Did you take them with the SONY-Camery from the first picture? What's the product name of your sony camera. I'm also using a sony, but a compact camera, nevertheless it takes good pictures.

By the way, great trip report so far.

Yes, it was still 45 euros, but I only saw it two places: Disney Gallery and Harringston's - as far as I could see they didn't even have it in the storybook store, which surprised a bit. It is beautiful so I can really recommend - as can I really with the "Disney Treasures" it is an amazingly beautiful and funny book, but it is a bit expensive too - 68 euros!

Yes I took all of my photos with this camera (some of the pictures are my moms or my sisters). It is a DSC H-2 and actually this is a compact camera too - just a big one

Thanks - You just have to be patient and hold the camera extremely calm (some sort of tripod would be helpful) and then of course no flash.

While waiting for the last day's report I have this funny photo for you. Have anyone else noticed this Mickey sing hanging upside down on the way towards Newport Bay Club?

Well I am not sure about an Australian Disneyland, although it would be good for you Laura  , but I am sure that my next report is here along with my Fotki album (in 15 mins)...

Trip Report Day 3 – Disneyland Park:

Now for the final day of my trip, which of course was magical too!

A photo of the never-ending hallway in which our room was located

We were all packed before we went to bed Monday night, so we decided to check in the luggage at the luggage room before breakfast at 7.45 – Fortunately I got my figurine checked in at the congergerie along with my laptop. Breakfast was great again – this time we had a view of Lake Disney (it was still a bit dark so I regret that I did not bring my camera down to breakfast).

This photo was taken by my mom in the morning

We started the EMH with a photo tour down Main Street U.S.A. – I wanted to take photos of all the 15th anniversary figurines on the castle (can be seen on my fotki album) when the park wasn't that populated. Then we went for Discoveryland – my sister tried Space Mountain again and we all went for a final ride on Buzz. There was a little child in the Buzz Lightyear dress that you can get – my sister said that if she had a boy, she would buy him one too. The mother turned around and said: "It is a GIRL!!" in Danish – a bit akward. But the little girly Buzz stopped the entire queue when she refused to leave the set of the AA Buzz! I reached 99.800 points, so I was not satisfied as I was so close to move up a rank

After this we went for Peter Pan – again the queue was almost just Danes(we did expect many Danes as we have holiday, but there was actually even more brits, which surprised us a bit, but it was lovely as me and my mom absolutely LOOVE to hear a lot of real british talking ) I tried to record the attraction with the camcorder, but it was almost impossible.

When we came out of Peter Pan the park was almost officially opening, so we went in line to get first to Pirates and we were some of the first to try it this day – the effects wasn't working on this day either, but it was still magical. Afterwards me and my sister wanted to try Indy again, but they were closing it all down with rope and everything – we wasn't hopeful for the rest of the day. Instead we went on Big Thunder and after that we went for Phantom Manor – only to experience the worst experience of the trip.

We were in the elevator with an entire Spanish school class and they just would not shut up, when the cm said: "Silence". Then the TEACHERS (Yes, not the children!) started to do impressions of him and when he told them to be quite in French they just started laughing at him. The teachers kept on working up the class so they ended up talking so loud that I just wanted to shout something not very nice at them! Then the elevator opened for a while and when it began to drive it was without any effects (story as well as the final thunder and darkness) – we thought that this was a result of the school class, but the attraction was broken for a very little while. However throughout the ride you could clearly here the school kids talk and it completely ruined the ride!

At the exit we ran into Jack Skellington, unfortunately he did not bring Sally! But still this character is amazing, I really like his costume! My mom suddenly wanted to try BTM again, so me and my sister would not let this opportunity go as she seldom dare to try it – we got fastpasses so she did not have to stand in a big queue – and she really enjoyed it.

Before trying BTM we just took a drive through the park the Disneyland Railroad – and it is very beautiful and cosy as always ? We also just took a glance at Woody's Round-Up Village, where Woody, Halloween-Mickey, Kenai and Chip'n'Dale were taking photos and signing autographs. I actually think that this is a good little area for the children to get great pictures and autographs, without having to be pushed around by their moms to beat the other children (the lines for autographs are great and necessary – some parents are just crazy!)

This photo is not that good, but I just tried to take a photo inside the tunnel in Pirates of the Caribbean and I captured this skeleton.

Then we went for our traditional leaving-day-lunch at Toad Hall – me and my mom got the Fish'n'Chips Menu, whereas my sister got the Chicken Burger. We planned our last hours in the park so we would achieve as much as possible. We started in IASW, which again was lovely, but they used a bit too many boats which caused a major traffic jam – we actually stopped inside the final scene! :o The same thing happened in Pirates later that day (way too many boats in use).

Just a quick look on the Labyrinth that did seem much brighter from the outside – we didn't go inside though ?

After Pirates we went to Adventure Isle and me and my sister looked towards Indy, but it did not seem to be working yet. After a quick stroll through the Isle we just wanted to go to see if Indy did work and Yes!, this time it did work. The Queue was just 15 mins after being down half a day (that is a bit too little in my opinion) My sister, who tried all the coasters in both parks, actually told me that she found it the worst and wildest ride in both Parks and she wondered why I did not dare SM and Rock'n'Rollercoaster – but the major difference for me is that Indy is outside – I want to be able to see what is going to happen and I do not like the thought of the accelerations of the two others.

After this we went for some final shopping in Emporium and Harrington's, where I bought the Imagineering book and my sister bought another wooden Christmas figurine – this time it was Minnie. My final merchandise was the Limited Edition Band Concert pin, which my mom bought for me – it is awesome and it was one out of app. 5 tribute pins to Walt and the old classics.

Then for Le Grand Finale – Disney's Once Upon a Dream Parade, which was amazing to see again. I really, really loved it (and the pre parade). Now we had to leave the park for the last time on this trip, but what a trip it had been! A truly magical time – the magic never ends :D

As the last thing my sister bought some Mickey ears for her dog  while me and my mom bought some sandwiches at New York Style Sandwiches for the ride home!

Although this was the last day report, keep an eye on this topic as I will conclude it eventually with my dvd from the magic (maybe soon or maybe after christmas when I get myself the new MacBook Pro)!

Hope you enjoyed reading this nearly as much as I enjoyed the trip :D

I will be posting the link to my Fotki album as soon as possible...

Amazing trip report!
That class would have stressed me out soooooo much, I don't know if I'd have been able to hold my tounge...I'd have been as polite as possible, but its just soooo inconsiderate, specially the teachers being mean about the CM!

Halloween time is great - it was my first time and it was nice, as there was not as many people as in the summer time, however the park is only open until 6-7 pm, so there are both pro and cons for going this time of year. However a true DLRP fan should enjoy the park at every time of the year - I am just missing christmas :)

Thanks for letting me know Forza! I am really only missing Halloween, unless there are any easter specific celebrations that I don't know of? :?
The thing is I don't like spooky, creepy things and that's what puts me off about halloween sometimes, plus my mum doesn't like that sort of thing either and it is her that usually goes with me, however when it comes to that time of year I always feel I am missing out on not seeing DLP during it's Halloween season! lol

Hi everybody!

Editing is going well, however i'm having a little problem at the moment. I have a chapter of the movie showing pictures and videos of the park by night. My problem is that I do not know exactly which song or instrumental score I should use for this chapter. So I would very much appreciate some suggestions from you guys - I have some of the cd's from the parks and I want to use music from these cd's.

I am looking forward to hearing your suggestions :D

Now I am expecting to "release" the trip video on here tonight with some of the "Special Features" too.

Until then I just wanted to share some of the menu design I have made... It is the first time I do not use a boring menu template for a trip video.

The Main Menu will look like this with two choices (Play movie and Scene Selection):

One of the four Scene Selection menus:

The submenus will have navigation buttons like these:
(//http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k377/forza_united/Bouquet_home.png) (//http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k377/forza_united/Bouquet_upward.png)

Now to the Special Features disc, which will include this main menu:

And the submenu for Disney Magic will look like this: (there will be a second menu with the Animation Wall as "DLRP picture"

I am looking forward to share this video with you and I know it has taken quite a while, but now it is almost here. You guys must be the best crowd on earth to share a DLRP Trip video with  :D/

Thank for the comments guys

Handy Andy, I ended up using Cyberlink PowerDirector 7 for the editing and an older version of Pinnacle Studio for the many slideshows within the movie. All graphics were made with an old version of Photoshop.

Thanks for the comments CentralPlazaPerson  :D

I used Cyberlink PowerDirector 7 (for the video), Pinnacle Studio 11 (for the slideshows) and Photoshop (for the titles).

Wow, terrific use of the video camera there forza, I really loved all the parts.  I think with me just returning from the magical land, it brings back all the memories of being there all over again, I especially love the 15th Anniversary Characters footage, it took me straight back to the day I had my camera zoomed in on them..

Well done once again for helping me to re-live the moments..  =D>  =D>  =D>

It should be a best seller..    :D

We where at the resort a wekk after you so what you saw is practically the same as what we did.

I really enjoyed watching the videos, they really captured the magic on DLRP. Hope to see more of them in the future.

I've always found Pinnacle to be a bit limited during editing my videos (I used to use version 11) but you did a really nice job with the photos and the videos.

Thank you so much CPP and Honey for your comments - they are very well received!

Regarding the Clef Club 2 - I think I got either on iTunes or Soundofmagic.com :-)

Clef Club No.2 does not work on Sound of Magic unfortunately :(
Nicoli I spotted your signature that it says you are going to the Magic at Halloween again. If this is not too much to ask, since your first video was fantastic, maybe you could do a mickey's magical party special with DJ Stitch etc.

Well, I do not know if I will bring the video camera this time - it was my brother-in-law's Sony HD Camcorder and my sister is not going with us this time, so I won't promise anything, but maybe I change my mind and bring a camcorder - my new DSLR camera has a camera function, but it is not that great.
