Title: Standard half board!
Post by: Minnie2017 on March 10, 2017, 05:43:49 PM
Hi all,

I'm going in July first time with adults (well big kids really) and we are getting the standard half board. But I don't like the look of any f the buffet  restaurants so want to eat at a counter service e.g. Toad hall or pizzeria. Butt these are quite cheap $15 meals and my voucher is worth more. So can I add in extras such as extra potion of chips or dessert etc?

I'm really fussy and a vegetarian so quite annoying haha

Thanks for all the help!

No, the vouchers cover the cost of a set meal from the cheaper counter services. You lose money by eating there.

You can however use the full amount of the vouchers worth against seperate items on the a'la carte menus that are at resturaunts like Blue Lagoon and pay any extra if required or you can use them at the table service resturaunts like chez Remy and pay the difference which for instance would be an extra €11.99 adults and €1.99 children using standard half board vouchers purchasing the 'plus' set meal.

Is there anything that concerns you in particular about the buffets?  They're very popular because they do offer a wide variety of foods and you can have a good filling meal.  Some people wouldn't find the counter service meals substantial enough to be their main meal for the day, especially because of all the walking you do at DLP.  And 2 counter service meals a day would make some people feel a bit yuk because it's mainly junk food.  It all depends on what foods you like and how active you plan on being etc, everyone is different, but I wouldn't write off the buffets completely.  I think you might be pleasantly surprised because there tends to be something for everybody.

I guess. I pretty much only like pizzas and chips and fish haha. Well I lied I'm not vegetarian but I only eat halal food. And given that there is no halal meat in DLP I might as well be vege.

I wanted to use some vouchers in toads hall or other quick eat places but the meals are about 15€ so I will be wasting a lot of money.

In regards to the la carte foods I can get rather than the meal... where can I get this from? Aside from the restaurant already mentioned above.

Walts, Silverspur to name a few. Try this link http://www.dlpguide.com/planning/dining/meal-plans/.  Scroll down the resturaunt lists, click on the resturaunts to view the menus.

Have you got the free half board?  If so you won't be wasting any money if you go to counter service places as you won't have paid for the vouchers :-) If you haven't got it free then ignore this!

Also check this link out http://www.dlpguide.com/planning/dining/restaurant-menus/

There's a few places that don't accept any vouchers. I can't remember them all but king ludwigs and rainforest cafe, McDonald's, Five Guys and the new Italian place next to five guys don't accept vouchers.

We'll ignore is free. But I defo want to be getting as much as I can as I'll only be having this meal and brekkie the whole day  if I could get the meal and a few others add ons such as dessert or extra
Fries that would be ideal

No you can't get extras, you just get the set meal deal in the counter service restaurants.  I have to be completely honest with you, I seriously doubt that breakfast and one counter service meal will be enough food for a full day in DLP.  We walked an average of 10km a day during our last trip to DLP, and were on the go for 12-14 hours per day and you just can't do that on a croissant and a burger and chips.

Haha I'll be taking snacks with me too. But in terms of main meals I meant.

I had hoped we could buy anything upto the voucher amount $28. But I guess not.

Looks like I'll be at the plaza, agrabah and la cantina then. Not sure about that last restaurant.

Any suggestions for someone really fussy? (I tend to prefer more junk food tbh)

You can also eat in the Cheyenne hotel buffet.  It's tricky with your dietary requirements, I'm not going to lie, but there was pizza and salad and veggies in Plaza Gardens.  I've never been to Agrabah but it's middle eastern.  If you look on trip advisor there's lots of photos of the foods from the different buffets, that might help you a bit more.

It's about $28 I believe. For a standard HB anyways.

oooh is that buffet good? The one on the standardHB list that most people rave about is the Santa
Fe restaurant which is where I will be staying anyway

We like Billy bobs in the village. Although it's got a tex Mex theme the salad bar etc is really good. I believe they usually have pieces of fish and the dessert stations is one of the best!

Yep billy bob is similar to la cantina apparently. So won't go there I don't think. When's the best time to have dinner?

I found this online, it includes a handy list of food places to use vouchers and where they are
