Title: WALL-E (Pixar 2008)
Post by: Kristof on August 10, 2006, 06:28:25 PM
Very short message from Laughingplace about the next Pixar after Ratatouille.

Quote from: "Laughingplace""W.A.L. - E" Name of Pixar Film After Ratatouille
We are hearing that the name of Pixar's 2008 release is called "W.A.L. - E"

Post by: The Butlin Boy on August 10, 2006, 07:05:14 PM
I wonder what W.A.L-E stands for?
Title:
Post by: Anthony on August 10, 2006, 08:38:48 PM
W.A.L. - E ??  How do you pronounce that?  It doesn't seem to be in the same vain as previous Pixar titles, they usually go for titles so simple that you almost don't need to see the film: Toy Story, Cars, The Incredibles... W.A.L. - E?

Maybe it's a simple working title, as I hope it is anyway, it suddenly makes me want to get out my old Where's Wally comics  .

from Animated-News.com:

WALL• E revealed

The first image from WALL• E, the Disney/Pixar film scheduled to to come after Ratatouille, has been released in a December 2006 Letter to the Shareholders by Disney CEO Bob Iger. "We're... excited about Pixar's next animated movie, Ratatouille, which will be released this summer. And I'm pleased to give you an exclusive first look at the title character of their next movie, WALL• E (pictured here), which will be released the following year." Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) is directing and the film is scheduled for release June 2008. Thanks to Kinoo in the Animated News & Views Forum for the heads up!

This was posted back in April 2006 on animated-news.com

Disney and Pixar have set Wall-E, Andrew Stanton's next film, for a release date of June 27, 2008. Not much is known about the plot of this movie, but it's rumored to be about a robot. Stanton's previous film as a director was Finding Nemo. He has been credited as a writer on Pixar's Toy Story films, A Bug's Life, and Monsters Inc. in addition to Nemo. Wall-E will follow Brad Bird's 2007 film, Ratatouille.

And another great logo from Pixar...

Quote from: "JimHillMedia.com""Wall E." FYI: You won't actually find the logo for this new Andrew Stanton film in this year's annual report. That particular "Wall E" image was recently forwarded to me by a friend who has very strong ties to the Mouse House. Who tells me that this robots-in-love story looks rather promising.

Pixar remains original with the themes of their films. Insteed of cute animals, Pixar always seems to choose for the more difficult, but artistically better, way. Cars, monsters, toys, and fishes were only the beginning.. its time for robots. I hope Pixar will remain as succesful, original and keeps its quality. I can't say much about one pic, but at least the logo seems nice.

I quite like the logo. It looks like they have gone down a bit of a different route with it though, looking at the picture, it looks like a mini version of Short Circuit (old 80s film). It doesn't look very cartoonish compared to the other Pixar films too. It will be nice to find out more about the story of it.

Don't forget we will see a trailer for it this summer when Ratatouille is released. Seeing as before every Pixar film we see the trailer for the next Pixar release. Can't wait to see/hear more.

I read  this story on a Dutch movie website:

QuoteMankind has left planet Earth that has become inhabitable caused by pollution.  They send from their new home in outer space millions of robots (including Wall • e) that have to clean up earth, but they don't succeed in this and the whole operation fails.  The female robot Eve is send from space to investigate why the rescue operation isn't a success.  Wall • E falls in love with her and gets the help of his defunct robot friends to help his love conquer.

The sure doesnt sound the kind of style a pixar movie usualy is in!

Firstly the doom and gloom from mankind leaving earth, and secondly because the clean up mission fails! How trustworthy is the site that put up the plot outline?
Title:
Post by: Anthony on February 18, 2007, 04:40:16 PM
I've read the same plot elsewhere...  Seems quite political, about the earth being too polluted to live on?  Something I'm not sure is true is that much of the film will be nearly silent.  I can't remember where I read that...

Anyway, I think Disney are sweating a bit because they just paid so much for Pixar and now they're apparently going all arthouse/indie on us. Although I can remember the concept for Cars and Monsters Inc not seeming very commercial and easy to get into when the first trailers were released, but look at them now...

Great article that one.  This sounds like a very interesting film, and a step in a good direction - away from talking rats/cars/bugs/etc.  I just hope there's still some entertainment left between all those "daring" and "original" ideas. :?

It sounds a bit like The Incredibles, with its slow and quiet first act.

Comingsoon.net has some info on Wall.E

QuoteWALL• E (June 27, 2008)

The studio synopsis: "The year is 2700. WALL• E, a robot, spends every day doing what he was made for. But soon, he will discover what he was meant for." Andrew Stanton, writer-director of "Finding Nemo" (still Pixar's biggest box-office hit), describes this metallic love story as "R2-D2 meets City Lights," with WALL• E meeting a cute robot named Eve. Those who remember the 1931 Charlie Chaplin film, about a blind girl wooed by a tramp she mistakenly believes is a rich man, can transpose the story to a lonely planet and guess from there. The main roles will be "voiced" electronically by Ben Burtt, the wizardly sound designer behind Star Wars.

Definitely Pixar's best teaser yet! I'm glad they broke with the usual format and had that very stylish intro by the directors, it really sells the film by saying "this is the only one we haven't made yet".

The only thing that worries me is WALL-E's voice... imagine that for a whole film, unless something happens to change it or he doesn't speak much.

Yeah, the film looks really interesting and a different/better direction for Pixar. My only problem with the trailer is, why do Pixar keep going on about their past successes? It's great that they made Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc. etc, but must they really remind us in every single trailer? Let me put it this way, 2/3rds of the trailer focuses on what they made in the past, and 1/3 on the NEW film.

Woody and Buzz!! Woody and Buzz!! They're looking a bit more soft and Ratatouille-ish these days.

Great trailer, though I bet it cost them millions.   It introduces Wall-E and re-introduces Woody and Buzz! Sometimes it really feels like Pixar will never take a step wrong.

Didn't the Superbowl get the highest ever viewing figures too? So almost 100m people had the chance to see that...

I checked most other countries get it in July and some don't even get it in theaters till Ocktober. Europe does get early releases sometimes though like with Pirates 3, Spidey 3 and Iron Man this year. Narnia comes out in Europe sometime in July instead of the American release date in May. Sometimes release dates like for this movie are a bit unfair for a lot of countries.

It looks a million miles from any other Pixar film so far, so different and dramatic. I love this kind of silent comedy and it looks like this won't disappoint. How Pixar can even make a metal robot of nuts and bolts into a character even cuter than say Stitch, I don't know.

After looking up WALL-E on IMDB, I've discovered that there are actually quite a few voices in the film, considering what we have seen so far. The list includes the famous actress Sigourney Weaver, and Pixar regular, John Ratzenberger :)

From what I've seen of the film (thats two 5 min clips) the no speaking thing works because they still communicate (the robots I mean) but they just don't speak in a language, just small noises and imagery that makes you understand whats going on, very well done.

In some scenes there will be other voices due to humans and other robots (with speech, I think, I never saw them but there were hints) so I'm assuming this is where the famous voices come in to play.

I wonder if there will be any Pixar toys amongst the rubbish WALL-E has to sort? Or did the humans take them all to space?

Yeah, I remember him. :) But I think WALL-E is looking cuter. ;)

The Dutch Disney weblog D-log.nl (//http://www.d-log.nl) has a small article about the WALL-E animatronic that will come to the Disney parks. A test with WALL-E has been done at the Disney Studios in Burbank.

The article has a link to another blog, but unfortunately, this link leads to an 404 error page.

Do we have an Idea on the Short released with the movie?

Cause those seem to get me in the mood for the movies.

The WALL.E Meet's clips are awesome my favorite still has to the the Superbowl Advert featuring my two favorite Characters Buzz & Woody.

I remember looking at idbm.com a while back when John Ratzenberger wasn't included. It worried me as the ninth feature film for most companies has proven to be the failing point Without John Lasseter (Pixar's main lucky penny missing) not including Ratzenberger (The second penny that loves to turn up and give luck) for me ensured the film would fail, as my viewing of Pixar movies has become a game of Spot the voice (it was harder in Ratatouille, it took me 2 cinema visits in a week to find him).

I got the book The Art of WALL-E today! Usually I'd wait till after the film, but I had an Amazon voucher and couldn't resist. It seems much thicker than the previous Cars book, there's definitely a lot more artwork in here.

--- I've not really included many spoilers (none about the story), but this is just a warning anyway ---

What I'm seeing is just spectacular, spectacular, spectacular. Seas turned to dirty, brown sand, motorway networks crumbled and covered in the dust of pollution, cities reaching high into the thick orange sky and trash everywhere, filling every corner. In one picture, WALL-E is looking into a small corner where a ray of light has picked up the tiny leaf of a single plant...

Heading into space, you can hardly escape the earth for the amount of satellites filling the sky. It even looks like they considering making part of the big AXIOM space ship the humans are now living on look like an original Space Mountain concept by John Hench. Maybe they did... we'll find out.

The whole theme of this Buy-N-Large mega corporation is spread right throughout, loads of signs, advertisements, branding everywhere. There's a small newspaper cover with the headline "TOO MUCH TRASH!!! EARTH COVERED -- BNL CEO DECLARES GLOBAL EMERGENCY", with the guy pictured at the White House podium with a massive grin. The president's podium has been redecorated instead with a sign "Global CEO of BNL".

The really big revelation... the humans. You might have read on Jim Hill and elsewhere that these are going to be a bit different to today - so overweight they all need hoverchairs to get around, etc. There are a LOT of concepts in the book for them, and most link back to a character we've already seen last year...

This ain't going to be pretty.

Hey guys, the movie was shown at a private screening to a number of critics, all of
them agreed that the movie is one of the best Pixar movies.
This is what some of them had to say

QuoteWall-E ranks up there with Ratatouille as being one of the best movies Pixar has done so far, and they manage to move in a new and exciting direction! I'd say 1/2 of the movie is done without dialogue, and consists of the main characters saying each other's names, gesturing and making robot noises. You'd think it wouldn't work out, but it works perfectly! Not only do you get the plot without the need for dialogue, the characters really convey their impressively wide range of motions with subtle gestures. The character of Wall-E himself is amazing. He's the most likeable characters Pixar has created, and so human! He's so human-like that his personality infects others around him like a virus (a good virus). I couldn't stop watching him! The plot itself is compelling, the story moves along really well, and you really get into it. The look of the movie is also amazing, with great sweeping vistas of the future of Earth... so desolate and bare... as well as the future of humanity... so commercial and devoid of life. It's such a stark contrast to Ratatouille, which had a richer palette with warm colors. As with both Ratatouille and Wall-E, Pixar did an amazing job with making it look so real! Ratatouille made stuff familiar to us look realistic, while Wall-E made us believe in these new futures of Earth and humanity. Finally the end credits were some of the best I've seen... downright breathtaking and really shows Pixar's creative breadth and the overflowing talent of its artists

-------------------------------------------------------

QuoteWish I could share more, but alas - there's that whole confidentiality agreement and the fear of being suddenly unemployed! The Party was a bast, however (they always are!) we even had a couple of 'friends' share in the fun with us (the 'Crying Trailer Watching Girl' you might have seen on YouTube, and maybe one or two others I'm afraid to speak about), the food was great, and the movie was fantastic (speaking strictly as a fan!) Dare I say it: this century's E.T.! The short you'll find attached to the movie is perhaps our most hilarious short films ever! I think you guys will really like this one!"

The trailer watching girl is very funny, she filmed her reactions when she was watching WALL-E
trailer for the first time, so she got an invitation to see the movie

From this Tuesday, Disney.com will be in the hands of WALL-E. No, really...

QuoteWith the approach of one of this year's most eagerly anticipated films, the Disney/Pixar release of WALL•E, the designers and engineers began to wonder what, besides linking to the film's web pages, they could do to make the little Waste Allocation Load Lifter • Earth class robot more of a part of the Disney.com experience.

"What would happen if WALL•E tried to start our site?" Disney.com Creative Director Sandro Corsaro asked. After all, most of the teaser material from the film frequently shows WALL•E struggling to make out the purpose of mountains of consumer goods left behind on an earth choked in its own commercial refuse.

With that question in mind, Corsaro contacted the folks at Pixar in Emeryville and a concept for a short vignette featuring WALL•E, a remote control and a space age computer screen, emerged.

"We've never done anything with Pixar," Corsaro said, "and we want this to be the first of many things we do."

Beginning the first thing next Tuesday—at 12:01 p.m. PDT—when you go to Disney.com, you'll be greeted by a star field. "WALL•E is buzzing along and he comes across this remote." As he passes, he glances back and is fascinated by the remote. He picks it up and clicks on it.

And the rest...well, you're just going to have to visit Disney.com next week to find out what happens. We will tell you it takes a woman to resolve WALL•E's predicament for him.

I'd never thought I'd see this reported!
Pixar Worry Over WALL-E

Ok much speculation has filled the world since Pixar announced that the ninth movie would be about a robot in space with no dialogue. And many within the movie industry have quoted that it is indeed the ninth movie that breaks many a movie company, and many have predicted that the movie was already doomed to fall privy to this curse... However I've just found this on imdb.com... //http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910970/news?year=2007#ni0103181
QuoteAlthough Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille crossed the $200-million mark at the domestic box office over the weekend, some Pixar executives are blaming Disney's marketing staff for failing to create a promotional campaign for the movie that would have pushed it into the top-five for the year, as Toy Story was in 1995 (No. 1); A Bug's Life was in 1998 (No. 4); Toy Story 2 was in 1999 (No. 3); Monsters, Inc. was in 2001 (No. 4); Finding Nemo was in 2003 (No. 2); The Incredibles was in 2004 (No. 5); and Cars was in 2006 (No. 3). According to Disney watcher Jim Hill, Ratatouille currently ranks eighth at the domestic box office and might wind up out of the top ten entirely by the end of the year. As a result, he says, Pixar execs are now overseeing the marketing campaign for the upcoming WALL-E, something that has apparently infuriated the Disney marketing staff. Hill quotes one unnamed studio insider as saying that Ratatouille "was a very difficult picture to sell during an incredibly competitive summer. ... They're now being complete bastards about the WALL-E trailer, insisting that only they know the proper way to promote their next picture. ... But that's okay. Let them call the shots on WALL-E's marketing campaign. Next year, they'll be the ones who'll be taking the fall when that Andrew Stanton film doesn't measure up to expectations."

Now I'm not going to worry... (MUCH) but this was reported back in September 2007... There appears to be feelings within the Pixar teams that Disney are purposely trying to derail their movies (after all The Wild and Chicken Little both flunked if I do remember rightly correct me if I'm wrong and they were Disney Movies moving into Pixar Territory)

But its only now I've come across this... and Pixar lucky penny John Ratzenberger's role in the movie has been established as a character called John. I'm guessing that John is either one of the few Humans featuring in the movie or one of the rebel bots.

Well, that was last November. All reports I've read recently point to WALL-E being a massive success - both in box office and merchandising. This little robot is going to be big.

I did read on Jim Hill months ago that Pixar were handling the WALL-E advertising this time, which, considering how great it's been, could be true. The theory of Disney wanting Pixar to fail is the stupidest thing I've ever heard though. Without Pixar, they'd be dead.

I really want WALL-E to do well, but the competition is fierce this summer,
Wanted which is opening at the same weekend in the US is already getting
positive reviews and critics are calling it the best action movie for this summer,
Dark knight, Hellboy and Hancock are expected to do well too.  :x but i have faith in
WALL-E i hope it does better than what iam expecting  [-o<
These are a few pictures  that show that Disney is promoting WALL-E in a big way

Thanks for the photos howtodeal, did you take them yourself or is there a source? This is really one of the best movie advertising campaigns for a long time. Everything seems so well-planned down to a fine art. And for the first time in years, I still have absolutely no idea what to expect from the film or story, despite seeing all these trailers.

Here's an interesting additional trailer, playing up the action aspects of the film: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=46164 (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=46164%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;) Thanks to animated-news.com.

Nope, we just ask you post a source if you know it, makes sure everyone gets credit. If you don't, no problem.

Now, not that I want to ruin my own chances -- *brainwashes*don't pick Manchester*brainwashes* -- but you can enter a competition to attend a free WALL-E preview screening (with 3 friends!) at many Odeon cinemas across the UK on 6th July through Buena Vista's thinly disguised promotional movies website: http://www.bvimovies.com/exclusives/exc ... nings.html (http://www.bvimovies.com/exclusives/exclusive_cinema_walle_screenings.html%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

You need to sign up, but they often have good competitions and preview tickets.

I pre-ordered it yesterday from HMV. Although have to admit, I played a couple of the track previews before managing to stop, and it was really beautiful. Strange how Pixar's directors seem to always use their favourite composers - Lasseter = Randy Newman, Bird = Giacchino, Stanton = Thomas Newman - is there a reason why?

Well folks, Pixar have done it again. But this time, they've blown themselves out the water. They're getting comparisons to Chaplin and reviews as good as the best of any of their other eight films...

97% of positive reviews so far for Wall•E

Rotten Tomatoes sums it all up: "It's rare that a picture earns comparisons with Chaplin's City Lights and Kubrick's 2001. It's rarer still that said picture is also praised as intelligent, visually remarkable, darkly funny, and ultimately, heartwarming family fare. However, critics say the good folks at Pixar have done just that with Wall•E, perhaps the studio's most audacious film yet. Set in a dystopian future, Wall•E is the tale of a garbage-collecting robot navigating an unpopulated Earth. Soon he's joined by EVE, a female bot searching for vegetation, and falls head-over-treads in love. Critics have been heaping praise on Pixar for years, but there's a reason for that: The studio re-invents the rules of CG animation each time out. The pundits say Wall•E deftly blends slapstick, political satire, heartbreaking romance, and masterful storytelling into a one-of-a-kind movie experience. At 97 percent on the Tomatometer, Wall•E is not just Certified Fresh. It's not just one of the best-reviewed films of the year. It's one of the best-reviewed films in Pixar's history."

Wall•E scores 100% positive reviews from top critics

Pixar's latest also rose to 98% of positive reviews overall according to Rotten Tomatoes. It "has all the heart, soul, spirit and romance of the very best silent movies 60 years ago." says the Hollywood Reporter. "One of the best films of the summer" (USA Today), "Pixar's ninth consecutive wonder of the animated world" (Variety) has "a disarmingly sweet and simple love story, Chaplinesque in its emotional purity" (NY Times); "some day, there will be college courses devoted to this movie," says the NY Post, with the Dallas Morning News agreeing that this film is "something dangerously close to the sublime, a film that will be dissected and enjoyed for years to come." "A jewel of a film" (Washington Post), this "masterpiece" (Wall Street Journal) is "pure visual magic" (Newsday).

I've got goosebumps. Were Pixar worth $7.4 billion? Hell yes.

Just ordered mine too! Can't wait! Come on the 14th of July!

With the use of composers it could be because of the scheduling too... by the time Lasseter finishes a film, Bird's normally hot on his heels the summer later and then Stanton follows on (It works out from Cars to now but I can't go further back cause I'm having a little moments of blonde) and the composers are therefore tied up on their current project or after finishing it are probably wanting time off to enjoy the masterpiece they had created! It's also probable that the director and composer understand what each other need or want for the movie the details the composer requires for the piece of music, and likewise the composer knows what the director expects think Randy's You Got a Friend in Me, or Giacchino's La Festine can you envisage anything else in that place.

And then there was Three...

Looking at the soundtrack there are 31 tracks including 2 from Michael Crawford (Both Features of Hello Dolly: The Musical, Put on Your Sunday Clothes... I'm intrigued about that one as its a fairly long number in the musical and It only takes a Moment... Which I'm guessing leads to the trailer clip from the TV Screen as It only Takes a Moment is a heart wrenching, love professing Number... I've done the musical thats how I know... And from those tracks I'm guessing that is the moive in which WALL-E is watching on the TV Screen... Further details on that will come to light after I see it) and the Original Track from Peter Gabriel!

It's out 30th July in France! They always hold those "previews" stupidly late.

I don't think these have been posted yet. They're actually -- deep breath -- actual clips from the film.

Now I'm Can't wait, and Counting counting down Time...

125 Hours
7533 Minutes

Basically 5 Days and 5 Hours Till I'm Watching the Robot on the Silver Screen.

On a saddening Note: Pixar unfortunately has lost another of its outstanding animators, and Like Cars was dedicated to the Artist, and vocalist of Heimlich (and the first choice for Mater), Joe Ranft, WALL- E is dedicated to the Memory of Justin Wright, artisit of the closing sequence in Ratatouille and of the many Storyboards that constructed this movie!

Apparently Also featuring in this movie is a Pixar secret code hidden away in each of its movies, apparently this motif as some may call it is hidden away in WALL - E too... A113. Apparently it holds some importance this time!

We saw it last night! it was easily the best film this year, there havent been many that have made me actually go to the cinema (most I decided to wait until the DVD is 3 for £20 in HMV or similar)

Took me an hours drive and no dinner but it was worth it! WALL-E was cuiter than I could ever have imagined! such a well developed character! MO was fantastic! I love MO! and EVE wasnt at all how I was expecting! it was simply AMAZING!!! anyone else think that Pixar are just showing off with the lighter? lol

And what can I say about Presto? I didn't much care for the last Pixar short I am sorry to say, but after Pesto ... well you could say I have forgiven them  :P Well worth the wait, am going back to Norwich tomorrow (if I can wait that long lol) to see it again, it is a masterpiece even by Pixar's standards, even the credits are stunningly beautiful!

Does anyone know if something happens at the end, the Pixar screen comes up again and the Buy and Large logo ... but then the cinema music came on, is there something at the end?? please tell me!  :D

OK Clarebelle, Calm Down! Remember some of us haven't seen it yet... (I'm still one of those for the next 7 hours!)... Great to hear you Loved it, we've had a pretty mixed bag of reviews so far without anyone dropping in the spoiler (Which I appreciate the most)! I'll sit through the credits personally for you see the logos say anything and if they do you'll be one of the first people to know!

And on another note; How can you not care about the Pixar Shorts, Lifted was passionately awesome and the Use of the Shorts for Pixar studios are to give up and coming artists, animators, writers etc... fresh from Graduating time to perfect their craft and have it rewarded on either the DVD or On the Silver Screen before Lasseter, Stanton and Bird say "you, your coming with me... Time to work on the Big Stage". I love all the shorts, some more than others, but lifted was ingenious and got me prepared for WALL-E with the concepts of Space being highlighted! OK Rant Over... For the last 2 hours and 25 minutes I have done nothing but giggle at both the short and aspects of the movie... cry as I wasn't expecting that sort of denumont, explain where the term WALL-E comes from the Reason and origins along with references to Hamm, Rex, the Pizza Planet and A-113 and most importantly beg an usher for her T Shirt (It was a I <3 NY styled... I <3 WALL-E one... Which if someone can get one for me It would be greatly appreciated...)

For those who haven't seen it its awesome the curse of the Ninth Movie has failed this little bot go see what Stanton has given you... for those who have and didn't enjoy I feel sorry for you as you now meet the bad books of the Captain!

just saw the movie.... Wow! Visualy it is increible. It's not live action, but then again it's not animation as we usually know. It's like a hyper real version of reality.

Plot & and story wise I can see why some people have struggled with it. I personaly loved it, but my other half, who loved the characterization of Wall.E, found the film a bit weird.... Me, I just got totaly lost in it, and an hour or two later wanted to see if again. I also think anyone that struggled slighty with it would love it after a second viewing, knowing what to expect. I kinda think the adverts portray it as a slightly different film than it is. But what they do show, and what makes it such a specail film is wall.e himself. Just fantastic!

I've been planning to write a full review for DLRP Today at some point, but I'll just chip in here and say I thought WALL-E was an absolute masterpiece. You know I've been waiting for it for months, posting every bit of news here, so I was a little worried what I would actually think -- especially the second half which I'd heard wasn't as strong.

Well, I saw it first thing on Friday and again yesterday, I've been listening to the soundtrack non-stop and I'm desperate to see it again. It just doesn't get boring, it's thrilling and entertaining and beautiful to watch. And it'll be just as good in 10, 20, 50 years.

You can tell already it's a classic. I could easily put it on the same shelf as Lady and the Tramp, Dumbo, Pinocchio, any of them. Maybe even a higher shelf. I'd go as far as saying it's Pixar's best film. As I read in one review -- "one day, there will be entire university courses built around this film".

I honestly thought Pixar could never make a film I love as much as Toy Story 2. I think they might have...

OH MY GOD! Is all I can think of saying, it was amazing, even the short was brilliantly imaginative and funny.  Oh Pixar have definitely not lost it, constantly hilarious I think was the overall opinion of a Empire Leicester Square full cinema screen I saw it at :D .  Amazingly the cinema was not even half filled with children, I don't think I noticed more than about 5  .

Along with Indy, Wall.e is up there as the greatest film of the year.  Also Clarabelle nothing else happens at the end of it, we sat and watched all the credits, there wasn't much else you could do on Friday night at that Empire screening.  No one seemed to really move till the final Disney distribution logo :D .  There was even lots of clapping, yes I was even clapping along too at parts, which is sometimes difficult to get me to at a west end musical, let alone a film  .

Hey,

i know I am like a million years behind everyone else but I finally seen WallE today. Just back from the Cinema. Have to say it was much better than I would have thought and I had to stop myself from crying at the end! Really good film with a lot of hidden messages I think! I wondered why people seen WallE as 'cute' but now that I have seen the film I realise why!
Disney rock! :D/

Not that its the worst film ever. It was more a collection of "What 1950's style escapades can we throw at Indy, and how can we slap them together ?" Aliens ? 4 Guards at Area 51? The Waterfalls? Shia and the Monkeys ? There's only one smiley for the job..... [-X

Nope! I disagree!! Yes it was cheesey, yes it was overblown, yes it was too far fetched, but yes it made me smile from start to end, and yes I loved it!

I was a kid when the first three came out, and I took my nephew to see this, he came out as excited as I did all those years ago. Its not meant to be taken to seriously, its a big popcorn movie, and great fun he he

Anyway, back onto topic! :offtopic:

Wall-e follows Ratatouille and goes out 18 weeks after first premiering in UK/EU cinemas!

Its quite refreshing to see beautiful animation combined with a good story, likeable characters and no corny jokes in sight. WALL-E is a winner!  :)

Do you want it online or in the shops? The same art cards deal is £12.99 on their website: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDet ... sku=897718 (http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1;-1&sku=897718%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Maybe look out at places like Smiths or Tesco who often do a "spend a certain amount and get x on DVD for only £6.99". I saw those for Indy at least.

Does anyone have it yet? Are the BURN-E short and The Pixar Story documentary as good as I'm hoping? I'll have to wait a couple more weeks for my bluray. :)

It's in cardboard here too, and I think everywhere. The CD soundtrack was the same. I suppose they're trying to promote some sense of care for the earth's resources, though it won't exactly counteract the ridiculous amount of packaging from WALL-E toys and other merchandise being sold this Christmas...

And the Blu-Ray comes in the standard blue plastic case. Do Sony force the studios to use that?

Nope... But they must be the Blu Ray sized case... and carry the Blu Ray Banner... As you can get steelbook movies... One Example of Which is Burton's Sweeny Todd... But then if you need to go to all that fuss of placing the blu banner on... why not go for the blu casing it looks different and works! It reminds you that it is Blu Ray!

You could argue the same point about Amateur Societies Performing HSM... and all the mambo jumbo they have to adeere to! But then thats for another time and place

That's probably why they've not experimented with any other design for WALL-E. The format is new, people are really only just adopting it in large numbers this Christmas. They don't want any confusion. At least they seem to have stopped with the blue borders around the entire cover now. :)

Does WALL-E have any (probably pointless) BD-Live features, or is that officially cancelled for Europe for now?

Wall-E was voted "Best Picture" of 2008 by the LA Film Critics with "The Dark Knight" as the runner up.  =D>

Quote from: "IMDB"Walt Disney/Pixar The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (Lafca) announced their winners today and in a surprise turn the group voted to award Disney/Pixar's Wall-e as their Best Picture of 2008 and astonishingly have The Dark Knight as their runner-up. I say the decision is a surprise only because Wall-e had basically been counted out for no reason other than it was an animated feature, but the La crix have really bumped up against tradition and even including the "it will never be nominated because it's a comic book movie" as their runner-up. A great day if you ask me, it shows some serious growth, but the surprises don't stop there. For Best Actress Sally Hawkins took the prize for Happy-Go-Lucky and we haven't heard much of a peep about her since the film's early October release. Heath Ledger took Supporting Actor with Eddie Marsan, also of Happy-Go-Lucky.

Just finished reading the full list of BAFTA nominations, and I'm a little surprised. Basically because they're 99% identical to every other award ceremony so far this year. What's happened to them? There used to be a time when there would be a slight deviation from the 'expected' nominations, and made the Baftas more interesting for it. But now it seem they're trying to align themeselves as just another Oscar indicator rather than trying to stand apart from the crowd. Ah well. Anyway, good to see more nods for Wall-E. Shame it didnt get mentioned for Best Picture too, but as I just said, the Baftas are just another sheep this year.

There is a new Nomination in the BAFTAs... Best Actor: Michael Sheen for his role as David Frost in Frost/Nixon

Don't remember Mike being in the GG line up for the category

It was also nice to see Lasseter comment on the Nomination of WALL-E during his Brief interview for Bolt on BBC Breakfast on BBC1 this morning... wearing another one of his Movie Themed Shirts... Which I want the materials too to make waistcoats for me for Teaching Practises... expect to see more posts on the shirts and the materials for them... I really really really want some

Which I want the materials too to make waistcoats for me for Teaching Practises... expect to see more posts on the shirts and the materials for them... I really really really want some
Someone, somewhere really needs to create an online database of all his shirts.

I didn't know he was Breakfast this morning. Can't watch it online either. :( I'm surprised he was doing the advertising for Bolt... I guess he really is The New Walt Disney (Almost).

:big: I finally watched my WALL-E DVD on Sunday. OMG, the BURN-E short was absolutely hilarious! The bit where he finally succeeds and that epic music comes on just had me in stitches. :P I really can't decide now if I prefer Presto or BURN-E. They're both the greatest Disney/Pixar shorts I've ever seen.

WALL-E didn't win a single award at the Annie Awards...

I didn't realise Kung Fu Panda was that good. Or did they get bored giving Pixar all the trophies every year?

I loved Kung Fu Panda but Wall-E and Bolt are much better in my opinion. Something
is weird about Kung Fu Panda winning all these awards. Even the short movie "Secrets of the Furious Five" won lots of awards too

QuoteVoice Acting in an Animated Feature Production
Ben Burtt - Voice of WALL-E - WALL-E - Pixar Animation Studios
Dustin Hoffman - Voice of Shifu - Kung Fu Panda - DreamWorks Animation
James Hong - Voice of Mr. Ping - Kung Fu Panda - DreamWorks Animation
Ian McShane - Voice of Tai Lung - Kung Fu Panda - DreamWorks Animation
Mark Walton - Voice of Rhino - Bolt - Walt Disney Animation Studios

I can't believe that Dustin Hoffman won over Mark Walton who did the voice
of Rhino  .

On more award notes, Wall-E won the BAFTA for Best Animated Film tonight  :D/

ETA: It didn't win sound or music, however. Those awards went to this year's awards darling, Slumdog Millionnaire (along with about 5 others)

We have seemed to overlook 2 Awards WALL-E won at the Grammys

Best Song Written for a Motion Picture,TV or other Visual Media: Down To Earth: Peter Gabriel

AND

Instrumental Arrangement: Define Dancing: Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman

Which is Pretty Wicked if you ask me to get accolades outside of the norm of film academies!
