Title: Woody's Roundup Village
Post by: Imagineer on July 23, 2007, 06:17:47 PM
What's happening at Critter Corral?!

I split this from the DLRP Magic updates topic.

Imagineer seems to be talking about this news (//http://www.dlrpmagic.com/today/2007/07/23/keelboats-finally-return-critter-corral-next/).

They won´t reopen critter coral, will they ? Maybe they put a winnie pooh playground in that area, though i doubt it would fit.

Just my two cents.

Here's the photo Imagineer is talking about:

And please please please, this won't be for Splash Mountain, so let's not spam the topic with "they should build splash mountain there".

Shouldn't they?!  :P

No, but does really noone know what they're doing there? It'd be so sad if Critter Corral would never come back, I loved it  :(

I don´t know what they do there but I´m really exicted. All there is rounded by contruction walls and you have no view of it. I tried it from the train but no way
Title:
Post by: Parkfisch on July 24, 2007, 04:55:29 PM
The construction wall should be brown and not green ! This is not Main Street / Discoveryland !

Winnie Pooh playground ? Then it would be more realistic if they build the Winie Pooh ride there.

So it seems that nobody have any idea of what it could be. A real mistery... Or is it a simple rehab!

It's strange that no other websites have picked up on this, it's looking quite major news. As Riebi said, the whole of Critter Corral is surrounded by fences - when they were refurbishing Cowboy Cookout and the Thunder Mesa buildings, they didn't even put up a single barrier!

Just for completist's sake:

Quote from: "DLRP Today"The West isn't Wild enough yet!

So, after returning Molly Brown to service, giving Mark Twain another touch up, repainting almost all of the Thunder Mesa town, completing a two-month refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain, restoring the Disneyland Railroad Frontierland Depot and bringing a bright "ranch" red glow back to Cowboy Cookout Barbeque, have they reached the end of the tick-list? Not yet...

For over five years, Critter Corral has sat empty with a sign stating, "We'll be back next season!" - only to remain empty the following year.

In their photo roundup dated 14th July 2007, the Photos Magiques team noted a few construction fences around one of the buildings at the entrance to the former children's farm. This weekend, more strange things have happened - the entire area has been surrounded with fences, from the railroad to the old Woodcarver's Workshop, even entirely obscuring the view of the area from the railroad line, all carrying the 15th Anniversary "we're preparing something new" signs...

- Image -

So, preparing for the return of animals to the Cottonwood Creek Ranch farm, or preparing for an entirely different future development? With such an abundance of fences and the permanent return of live animals seeming very unlikely, the days of the old Critter Corral appear to be numbered.

Yes that is strange indeed! Nobody seems to know something about what happen there. Is it one of the birthday surprises? Mr. Holz seems to have some specials in his bag!

Blast from the past... I've dug up some photos from 2003 when Critter Corral was still open...  I have to warn you though that these photos were taken BEFORE I discovered Sony photo camera's...

 I'm kinda glad it's gone, as I don't believe small children and animals mix. I remember years ago when it was still open, there would always be some little brat chasing the chickens, or pulling on the goat's ears. Their parents would tell them off, but they wouldn't actually stop them from doing it and that always upset me. :( *Is a big animal lover* I don't doubt that DLRP took very good care of the animals, but there just wasn't enough restrictions in regards to people's children. At least when I was there anyway.

Well, that's really a point I didn't think about, but you're right :(! I love animals aswell and maybe was to selfish I didn't think about it that little children could hurt the animals :(
But what could come there instead?!? Please not another playground  :P

It will be interesting to see what happens though.

as much as I'd like to see a big new attraction, they stand to gain nothing by keeping it secret.  Announcing a new attraction is a great bit of free publicity so they'd make the most of it if something big was planned.

This begs the question - what could they be doing that they don't feel the need to shout about?

Have they ever unveiled a great attraction out of the blue?  In the past, what have un-announced constructions turned out to be?

Actually - I very much doubt this...  It might also be bad to announce the next big new attraction NOW already...  Consider it takes another 15 - 18 months to build it...  People that can not afford to go that often, might then decide to wait another year before finally going...

Marketing wise I think it would be best to announce something, and wait until the fuzz has gone away about that anouncement before already using their other announcements :)

Post by: WDI1992 on July 26, 2007, 05:54:47 PM
whatever it may be, it surely won't be a D-, or E-ticket if you think about it, they indeed would have had to start another big advertising campaign, right? of course that's only my opinion, they might just wan't to take it slow  :)
Anyway, gonna miss Critter Coral a bit, but then again, it was never very crowded and indeed, the animals had to put up with a lot with those little kids and too few supervision...

Quote from: "raptor1982"Because, I know.    .

Please tell us or at least give us a clue. Why should we all be guessing around while you seem to know more about it?

A few days ago there wasn't much going on behind the fences. When you ride the Disneyland Railroad you can get a view of Critter Coral since the backside isn't fenced off.

On the other hand, this construction seems quite important for the future of Splash Mountain. If they are planning to build an attraction, or even a building on this valuable land, Splash Mountain might not fit on the current location of the Frontierland Depot. Or they should take a look at their future plans once again.

In the meantime I can't really believe they are going to build a new attraction. Remember when a crane was spotted over the fences of the Studios in 2002? It became the Toilets of Terror. Then there was a crane spotted over the fences once again in 2003/2004. Eventually it became the first sign for construction of the Vinci Parking. That why I think we shouldn't think about a new attraction immediately; maybe they are just re-landscaping the area as a picknick area, or maybe they are just sprucing up Critter Corral? We'll see.
Title:
Post by: Soap on July 31, 2007, 09:21:50 AM
My thought is that they are indeed re-classifing the whole area, but that this will only end up being the same old Coral, but maybe a bit better organised?

So we'll have to wait and see or off course.....Raptor has to enlight us a litte bit  :P ????

Post by: Anthony on August 01, 2007, 12:09:57 AM
Haha!

Yeah, it must be something Critter Corral-sized or else they'd have had to apply for more funding and it'd be discussed with the shareholders like the 2005 announcement.

So we will have a critter coral sized Splash Mountain in that spot. A very unique attraction no other Disney Resort will ever have ?  ](*,)
Just kidding.
A new restaurant and/or shop along with some frontierland theming would be nice.
But we´ll end up seeing a major rehab of critter coral.
Just my two cents.

I hope they reopen that stall or include some kind of retail place in the new "thing", it's crazy that Frontierland has only one shop, even if it is quite big.

Raptor1982 - please don't hit me, but just to bring Splash Mountain into this...

As you can see, according to the old plans from around 1992 the loading area and entrance path of Splash Mountain would be on the current spot of Critter Corral.

So... the fact that they're now apparently spending some money on changing Critter Corral in one way or another must surely make Splash Mountain coming to this spot DLP quite doubtful, right?  The Imagineers must know how they'd like to expand DLP if the current projects go well, and it looks like those plans for Splash aren't at the top of the agenda, or why would they be doing this project?

Does this rule out Frontierland as the spot of the long-awaited next big DLP attraction then? It does narrow down their choices a bit.

Something to think about. :-k

Well I have seen imagineers with blueprints in Adventureland, so that may be the next spot. But one of my sources (very reliable) informs me that if the 15th does do well and a new finance plan can be drawn up, we will see 2 attractions in DLP and 6 in WDS over the next 5 - 10 years.

NOT MORE CARTOONS!!!!  For crying out loud, I am fed up of toons invading all over the parks.  I remember the days when Disney was about immersive environments and world class entertainment.

Rubber heads are cheaper than attractions and even musicians.  Disney - you keep falling further and further into the gutter of theme park entertainment.  The worst thing is, the average punter laps it up.

The fun fair area of Billing Aquadrome or Wickstead Park is fun, but it's not worth saving up and going abroad for.  I am sorry, I am really passionate about this one.  I remember the only place you could see toons invade the park was Fantasyland.  I really wish it was still like that.

So you'd save up for a closed childrens' farm then?

We should be glad they're just doing something here, regardless of whether this pushes over the Pixar-quota for 2007. A Toon Studio-style meet 'n' greet village sounds wonderful for this neglected place. The pushchair army from Pocahontas Indian Village will give it so much more life than the farm ever did.

If they were adding Goofy to Phantom Manor, Donald to the Riverboats or even Woody to Big Thunder, then I'd panic. This... actually has me quite excited.

But then Toy Story 2 is my favourite film, especially the Woody's Roundup scenes. 8)

I remember back in 1994 seeing Disney characters wandering around Frontierland and Adventureland. I don't see what the big deal is about this, it's another area where kids can meet their favourite characters, seems fine to me, and I actually think that the Woody characters are a good fit for Frontierland. It's hardly going to be a big area of the park is it.

I kinda think its all relative. I agreed with Davewasbaloo that the one of the main attarctions of a Disney Park used to be the theming of attractions and the back stories, that didnt rely on movie tie-in. They are/were some of the strongest attractions, I mean look at The Tower Of Terror. Themeing an attraction around a movie/character can and does lead to sub standard attractions.....

But if its a dissused area such as this, with a Photo Character Meet & Greet, then im all for it. Breathing new life into a dissused area, and not at great expense.

Anything to make a stay more magical...

Well, that's not what I thought would being built there  :?

How could they destroy a childhood memory of Walt and replace it with a cheap Character Location with characters that don't fit to the "Old wild West" theme?!
I don't like it that they bring so many computer animated characters into Disneyland Park, don't they belong much more to the Studios?!

But on the other hand... a Character Location is pretty small, isn't it?! Thene there's maybe still place for a Splash Mountain sometimes

But a character location doesnt bother me, its just using up free space that clearly wasnt very attractive and when they decide to build splash mountain *pray* something like this wouldnt get in there way its probably there to liven up the area. :)

I have to agree with some who think Splash Mountain will be there, I was thinking Critter Coral could be turned into a Song of the South Meet-n-Greet area when Splash Mountain will be placed.

Theres no use in moaning about more characters in the park. The good thing about this new development is it makes the top end of Frontierland a more welcoming and interesting place to be. I know i've only been up there for the Tarzan shows etc. so this should help to make every corner of the park more lively!  :P

I am interested in seeing how this will turn out, I don't actually mind about this, I'm just hoping that they will add loads of other interactive bits to the area like the scream machines by the Monsters inc photo location in the studios

How reliable is your source Raptor because dlp.info seem to think differently:

QuoteSo what could the work be supposed for?
Let's say it like this: at this point everything points to preparation work for the upcoming seasons. Originally everything indicated preparation for the upcoming Halloween Season which will have to center even more on Frontierland than in the apst years, since there is no room for the giant pumpkin structure on Central Plaza due to the anniversary stage set up there. But lately new information is showing up, that the preparation might also be used for a "Father Christmas Ranch" for the Christmas Season.
A "Father Christmas Ranch"? Yes, according to these rumors the Christmas season for the first time ever will expand majorly into this area of Frontierland. After all "Mickey's Winter Wonderland" is presented just across the walkway already anyway. The concept of a "Father Christmas Ranch" could be similar to the "Reindeer Round-up" at the Big Thunder Ranch at Disneyland Anaheim. There guests can meet Father Christmas in a rustic setting as well as take a look at his reindeer in an enclosure close by - similar to what the rumors indicate for the former Critter Coral. A public enclosure for Santa's reindeer would make sense, since they need to be kept somewhere on-site during the Christmas season anyway for their performances in the daily parade and can't be transported back and forth from their regular enclosures at Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch continuously.
The rumors are mum, tough, whether we can expect anything of the additional features of the "Reindeer Round-up" - say the photo ops with Miss Santa Claus, other Disney characters such as Pluto in their Christmas outfits, live entertainment etc. ... but in the end we will learn soon enough whether these rumors are correct and what exact guests will be able to enjoy.

And seeing as it has been confermed that there will be a santa's village this year at christmas, how reliable do you think it is?

It sounds like the same rumour to me, a rustic Father Christmas ranch village thing. They just don't mention what it'll be the rest of the year, Woody's Roundup.

Yes, didn't I posted that on the magicblog too?  That it will be used also during christmas and halloween?

Quote.can't be transported back and forth from their regular enclosures at Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch continuously.

Besides, the reindeers weren't kept at Davy Crocket Ranch, nor are the other animals.  There's a huge area for them right behind Frontierland.

Depending on the sources , some are saying that the new totally-wood buildings are for a "Halloween village " and then a "Santa Claus" village. But others say that a Woody round-up inspired by the Toy Story character will open soon, probably similar to the one at Disneyland , Anaheim

I like the idea, a multi purpose area. Never seen Reindeer up close and I love Toy Story. Wonder if under the Toy Story guise there will be any animals or just Woody and Jessie? Maybe we'll get to see Stinky Pete too.

I agree Butlin Boy, if they want to do a Toy Story meet 'n' greet area, they have to bring in the Bulls Eye character!  I know they have him at Walt Disney World, but each time we went he seemed to be stuffed away in Al's collection.

Wonder if they will do the Woody's roundup street show there like they do in WDW?

They had Jesse Woody and Bullseye in that, not to mention the tune is still stuck in my head...

*Skips off singing* Woody's roundup, right here every day, its, Woody's round up, come along and play! Theres Jesse the Yodelling cowgirl, Bullseye thats woodys horse....
Title:
Post by: Disneyana on October 02, 2007, 04:01:06 PM
yes I hope they bring out that tune. I just love it since the first time I saw Toy Story 2. It would be so cool if there would be a country band playing that song. For Example at the beginning when the Characters arrive and at the end. And I would so much like to see Bullseye. But anyways I will queue at Woody's Roundup, because I so much love Woody and Jessie.

I was told (not sure) That the reason the Haunted Mansion was closed when I went to WDW was because they were giving it a Jack Skellington Theme for Haloween, not sure if thats true though!

Jack seems to be becoming popular so we can certainly hope he will be making an appearance! After all I dont think any of the disney characters embodies Haloween quite as well as Jack the Pumpkin King!  :jack:

From Wiki;
QuoteThe theme song of Woody's Roundup, heard during the movie, consists of the line: "He's the rootinist, tootinist cowboy in the Wild, Wild West." This song can be heard at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom when Woody and his cowboy dance to the music in Fronteirland.

And soon to be changed to, "And at Disneyland Resorts Paris Woodys Roundup Area."
Title:
Post by: Anthony on October 07, 2007, 07:56:27 PM
A new area loop in Disneyland Park? Wow, it's been a while.

Do they just play the full Woody's Roundup album that was released with Toy Story 2?  I'll have to have a listen to it again later...  :D

http://disney.go.com/disneyrecords/soun ... index.html (http://disney.go.com/disneyrecords/soundtracks/woody/index.html)

That entrance sign is still wowing me, such a fun and original design. Hopefully they'll finish up the area by reoping the Woodcarver's Workshop, that'd be perfect.

I've post a new topic on this forum two hours ago to let you know that i've post on my blog disney and more the first ever document that prove that imagineers have planned to built the highly awaited Indiana Jones adventure attraction at DLP.
Unfortunately, it seems that the webmaster of this forum decided that YOU shouldn't see it . He also have the delicacy to cancel my topic probably to make sure you will not go on my blog to see it.
My blog is a non-commercial site, with the only goal to share great documents to all DLP fans. I will be you, dear magicforum readers, i will take quite badly that your webmaster try deliberately to avoid you to see DLP documents that you are all hoping for.
May be it's simply some jealousy against my blog ( they can have good reasons to be jealous ) or may be it's only stupidity.
Anyway, if you want to know why the imagineers are ready to built Indiana Jones adventure the day the park will decide it and see the first blueprint of it, please go at:

Quote from: "loaloa"I've post a new topic on this forum two hours ago to let you know that i've post on my blog disney and more the first ever document that prove that imagineers have planned to built the highly awaited Indiana Jones adventure attraction at DLP.
Unfortunately, it seems that the webmaster of this forum decided that YOU shouldn't see it . He also have the delicacy to cancel my topic probably to make sure you will not go on my blog to see it.

Excuse me???????

You have been warned on several occasions by me and the other moderators to use the Disney and More topic in the weblinks board to post links to your blog.  If you would have looked a bit further you would have noticed that your original topic was moved to that weblinks board and you even got a comment on it over there.  I won't regard this as a direct assault to me as the administrator of the board, but as a "misunderstanding".  However I will tell you for the last time to use the Disney & More blog topic in the weblinks board.

Back on topic to Woody's Roundup. (Why was this posted here in the first place???   )

Is woody's roundup just filling a gap for the time being, for something bigger and better? e.g. Splash Mountain (DLP needs another water ride, don't you think?)

It might be - you never know, but there are certainly no current plans that we're aware of to use the area for anything else. Woody's Roundup is just a way for the entertainment department to make something quite cool out of a disused area.

The new Stinky Pete meet 'n' greet is brilliant! It'll be interesting to see what happens when Father Christmas leaves town.

I might have an idea from a book I recently finished called "The Disneylands that never were" The book talks about a version of Splash Mountain with a tunnel through it for the Disney railroad and I'm sure I read on this or another forum there were plans to move the Frontierland Station, maybe Woody is a filler, The station will be moved along the line and then Splash Mountain can be built with a tunnel through it.
Please people this is just a thought not a rumour or spoiler but I think its a nice idea.

Aww, that's really sweet, thanks for posting Riebi :)!

Are those rooms an addition? Or was something different in there before? Woody and Jessie are still there, aren't they?
What about Santa, it was a photo location for him during Christmas Season too, right? Is only he there for a meet'n'greet during Christmas or are there other characters (usually), too?

Oh right, yeah, of course it's that, I...I knew that

On a more serious note, I wonder what will be going there? Decorations, or something more permanent, or...? :-k

Since Entertainment took over control of that area, I'm not surprised we'll see plastic animals bolted to the ground...

Haha!

Well they're advertising a Post Office or something for this year's Santa Claus Village, but I would have thought that'd simply go in the second new building they never used last year...

Didn't they inital use this area last year as part of the Halloween setup?.

Anyhow, when it comes to the Christmas season - whilst it was a nice 'touch', I wasn't really overly impressed with the outdoor 'theming' - I felt that they could have done more to the area to match the idea given it was suppose to the place to meet Father Christmas.    Obviously 'official' this is Woody's area - but I'm sure they could have (in my view) included some of that Snow astroturf they like to use in the gardens at Main Street/Hub in the hedging behind just to give it a Christmas feel.

Maybe last year (in my eyes) was a tad of a letdown as it was an area that had only just become available to them......

I note that this year we are going 'American' - and the old man has become Santa Claus - I'm kinda of hoping that they have some more in mind than simple 'same show - different name'.

Theming people!.

Hi everyone

I am planning my trip to Disneyland and I would like to have some info about Woody's RoundUp Village. I haven't found any info about this in any website, so does anyone know what is it about? Is it a playground? What can you do there? Any photos?

Thanks
George

It's the site of a meet and greet - basically a collection of sheds that you can get your photo taken in, together with the different characters. Because of the theming, and the great character interaction while in line, we were very pleased with it.

Hi,
I was just wondering... last June I was in DLP "Woody's Roundup Village" wasn't marked on the map. I must confess that I didn't look for it either. The last thing I heard about it was that it was a temporary"Meet Mickey" location before the real thing opened in Fantasyland. But what happened after that? Did Woody come back? or is the meet and greet area closed (for good)? Is something new on the way? If so, what ist it?

A lot of questions :) maybe someone can answer a few

Thanks ;)

As of what I heared it's only used during Christmas season for Santa's Village and a meet 'n greet with Santa, his Elves and some disney characters. The rest of the year it's closed...

Its never been opening when we have been there in last two years. I just assumed it was closed for good, which is such a shame.   :(
