Title: Why is Casey Jnr always closed???
Post by: pers5579 on September 01, 2010, 10:46:36 PM
Can someone please explain why the Casey Jnr ride is always closed???

I have been twice previously and for 4 Nights / 5 Days each visit  and only managed to get on this ride once.

It was open 1 morning only!

My little girl loved the ride and when I've looked at the planned closures Casey Jnr is on the list regularly!

So What Gives?!??!

They always have and still do close in winter.

I think this topic should be in "Disneyland Park" rather than here.

It was operating in February this year, which still counts as winter. But prolonged rehab closures for the Storybook Land and Casey Jr. are rather normal during the winter months.

Casey Jr and Storybook land have been closed everytime we have been at Disney so we have never even been on it!
I am hoping we will ride it for the first time this October

The reason is obviously saving money! These two rides are only ever open during peak season as the area is self contained and easy to close off, Disney probably hope that casual visitors don't notice! The other absurdity in this area is The Windmill ride which never seems to operate! If it is broken beyond repair it should be replaced, if not it should be open, after all we pay top dollar to visit Disney! To have Casey Junior,Storyland canal Boats,Phantom Manor and Snow White closed at the same time is particualarly unfair on visitors at the moment.

According to Photos Magiques, "this attraction closed around 2000 and opened a rare few times after, but has since been closed for good."

And Casey's Jr/Pays des Contes du Feés are only opened during summer season and with sunny weather, while Snow White and Phantom Manor will be closed 2-3 days because of regular maintenance.

I go to dlrp during the christmas season at various times, sometimes early nov through to mid december and casey jr and pays des contes du dees are always open and autopia is always closed, love goin g on the storybook ride and my nieces and nephew loved it last november. Went on after meeting belle and beast at belles christmas village. I suppose its just pure luck..

I still down understand why they close it so much in the winter months. I just wondered if this was an expensive ride to run or if it suffered from regular technical problems??

Autopia used to be closed for winter too, but thats changed over the last couple of years and its actually been open for my annual trip in January.

There are a few attractions I'm starting to get used to not going on any more because of winter closures, such as Storybook Land, Molly Brown/Mark Twain and Animagique!

we went november 2008 and autopia was open much to my little boys delight! but any other time in winter its been shut, also whilst there casey jr and story book ride was open for one day whilst we were there and both children loved it! so its just pot luck with these things, and the windmills havent been open for donkeys years. i totally agree that they should have everything open -within reason- as its cost so much to go.

I understand that they have to maintain the rides and that closures are inevitable. But i would have though that if your going for a 5 day trip, that at some point during that trip you should be able to get on most attractions.

there's a sign by this attraction with the text : will open again in summer, so it's closed for 10 months or so?????

Thats very dissapointing. It rules out our having a ride in ouy January trip  :(

I know they often close it before Christmas as the area gets themed, but do they really need to close it this early this year? I hope they aren't closing it until next Summer, as it is a popular ride.

I swear that theyve added these new november dates recently !

QuoteCasey Jr. Le Petit Train du Cirque
Closed in October 2010 from 4th October to 15th October
Closed in November 2010 from 4th November to 5th November

Le Pays des Contes de Fees
Closed in October 2010 from 4th October to 15th October
Closed in November 2010 from 4th November to 5th November

If the dates are true then i will be able to ride these attractions but why close them for 11 days in october then a month later close them for 2 days. Also we all know these rides will be closed during the winter months !

Just to set the record straight: both rides in Storybook Land are always closed during low-season. They are only open during the summer AND winter season (that means during the christmas season from early november till the first week of january). If you want all rides to be open, you need to visit during high season. If you visit during low season you can expect rides or lands to be closed. If you pay less, you'll get less.

As for the sign: they put out the wrong sign, which is usualy there during spring for the summer-refurb. Storybook Land will be open during the christmas season, as always.

They have both been occasionally open at restricted hours on our last June and Oct trips. They were down as closed on the refurb list but we were very pleased they were operating.

This is good news, we are going at the very start of the xmas season so it will be lovely if we are finally able to go on this ride.
Mind you, I went for a day trip in September 2006 and remember going on the storybook ride :S its a while ago, I suppose

We were at DLP last November - 20th - 26th, If I remember right.  We went to try these rides mainly due to having our 17 month old daughter with us, to find they were closed - however the sign did say they were open at the weekends. Not sure if this is true as we first tried on the Monday.
We were dissapointed as there are not a huge number of rides suitable for very young children so at least the storybook boats would have been suitable for her.
The idea that you should get less in low season because you pay less seems a bit strange as the actual entrance ticket is exactly the same price! :?

I understand that its not peak season so they have less staff. Fair enough. But this is a good ride for the younger ones and its a popular ride. Why can't they rotate which rides are going to be closed??
Title: Re: Why is Casey Jnr always closed???

As Tuvok states: the Casy/ Storybook area is high peak season only since it is easy to close without noticing it at all (only from the railroad its is realy visable.

As for the mill ride 'Les Pirouettes du Vieux Moulin': it has been closed, I believe, less than a year after opening. The official reason I know is that its evacuation protocol took to long. In other words: in case of an emergency it would take to long to get all guests out.

Somewhere in 2000 I think they re-opend it with new safety procedures which included the closure in case of rain. Since there was a lot of rain in Paris the attraction closed for good somewhere in 2002. I love it when they put the candy canes in it around Christmas though!

I was so angry to find these attractions closed when we went this week! The website said it would be closed from 1st October, however the park guides said they were closed that whole week and the next! There was a sign outside saying 'reopening next summer.' However my friends went on these attractions last november???  I really want to take my daughter on these rides but it seems the chances of them ever being open when we go is minimal :(

"if you pay less, you'll get less"

What a ridiculous system to go by. They should offer the full experience to all guests, all year round.

it took us a while to find as well.... by chance we found it just wandering around... (i hated casey junior first time i went on it.... more because its not thrilling enough... i love rollercoasters and that ride just doesnt do it for me.... yes i know its meant for younger guests.... but i was a 13 year old who wanted to go on the big rides)

Hopefully we'll get it on again in a couple of weeks. The rehab list says its closed in Jan UNTIL 21st.... but the same goes for the boat ride and Animagique, all of which have been closed on my last few January trips. But we'll see.

I can fully understand rides having to close for maintenance, and certain rides having to close due to weather conditions, and I can also fully understand that the most convenient time to do this, would be in the winter months when the park is quieter.
Having said that, I don't understand why Casey Jnr, and Le Pays de Contes seem to be mostly shut throughout the low season.
If they are not prepared to open them more often, then they should replace them with rides that are open throughout the year.
Yes, we may pay less for accommodation through the low season, but the park tickets remain the same price.
I'm sure when Walt Disney first had his vision for Disney theme parks, it wasn't to alienate anyone, or stop anyone enjoying the rides. =(

Funny that these rides always seem to be refurbed the most, yet they are hardly ever open.

Although they bother were open on my halloween trip 18th - 23th.

we are going on 6th to 8th April, so hopefully Casey Jnr should be open.  We rode it in July 09 and was my little boy's first coaster ride.  I hope he can ride it again, as swinging left and right on my office chair in my study while watching the video on this site doesn't have the same effect, and is taking it's toll on my chair :o

casey jnr is always open in the morning when I've visited at Christmas but by afternoon its shut. I think its something to do with the way the ride is built and what the power is run on from what I recall someone else saying.
