Title: High School Musical 4 details announced
Post by: peep on April 10, 2008, 10:49:52 AM
I shockingly came across this story on BBC.co.uk. It seems that they are already writing the script for High School Musical 4! The third film is due to start filming at the end of this month in America somewhere.

Read the article HERE (//http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7339406.stm)

I think they may kill the entire franchise by doing this. I think 3 was going a bit too far (being released at cinemas and all) but it seems that three films is just not enough for Disney anymore.

OH NO! They'll write more of those brainwashing songs...and my ears will drop off!

When I told my dad he said "I didn't think there were that many mentally ill people in the world!"

Well, the second was actually quite good (in the same kind of so-cheesy-its-good way)... let's wait and see.

The difference with HSM to me, compared with say Shrek etc, is that the audience really seem to want more films, more songs... It was made such a success by the audience and not just by marketing brains. We've really only just recently seen them capitalise on it with the merchandise two years late.

It might get a bit strange when we have the live show of High School Musical 4: Let's Get Another Out Quick Before They Grow Up! playing at Walt Disney Studios in 2010 though. :P

^Hehe, I can imagine that now going round WDS, either that or it'll be a mash-up of all 4.

I agree that 2 was good as in bad cheese thats good but I think it would have been nicer to end it as a trilogy, a 4th film could ruin the franchise and I think peeps will be bored by then.

I thought the 3rd One being named SENIOR YEAR and reading the synopsis on idbm, that Troy and Gabriella along with the rest of the Cast are each going their separate way... So unless its their final summer together... I don't see it working.

Get me the Audition details I'm sure their looking for a quintessential Brit to dazzle the Americans with their stereotypical British Accent, to make Miss Montez stray from her Bolton rather than the continual other way round.

Uh oh, not another! Ever since i saw the 2nd one i always thought 'how and earth can this be called disney?' 4 Movies of the same musical theme I think is a little overboard and I hope this wont later lead to a High School Musical attraction at the parks

Oh please not a 4th!!   The first one was barely bearable, I didn't go anywhere near the 2nd one and I'll be keeping well away from the 3rd one... Since I love musical-style films I thought I'd love it, but I tried to watch the first one and it was so bad it just made me cringe   I just hope WDS don't go any more mental on it than they already have - I'm already VERY unimpressed that they've scrapped the cinema parade and now there's TWO (not one, but two!) HSM shows..! Overkill maybe?!?!

^Sorry to upset you but if I remember correctly we won't see any of the original cast in the 4th one, thats if it gets made. This would make sense as in the third film they leave high school.

I hope they don't make another, it'll just kill the franchise completely :? Although I thought I heard somewhere that they were going to make a TV series, although that could just be my imagination

[strike:2458nc3o]How about a school reunion?[/strike:2458nc3o] Quick hide it before Disney read it

looks like this may happen  :(

it also looks like this is a straight to TV version (like HSM 1 and 2) according to imdb!

it also states a possible plot but it maybe fake!!

Don't you think this is going into overkill now?? and with Camp Rock 2 going into production soon....can't the Disney geniuses think of any other films?

I fully agree!
Major overkill.
But I can see why they are doing it, while there is a market for these films and they can make money from them then they should. Plus there are a lot of kids that will be more than happy to see some more HSM stuff. Though I'm not one of them
So I'm happy for those that will enjoy seeing more HSM and Camp Rock styled films.
Though I really wish Disney could bring out a brand spanking new film, instead of just a sequal.

There's an article on the BBC News site about future Disney projects, which leads with the loud headline "Fourth Pirates 'in development'" but then fails to really tell any more except "If realised, Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow".

Errm, Anthony, this topics actually talking about the rumors of a fourth High School Musical film, not Pirates of the Caribbean. But thanks for posting that link though

Now there's a good point. That's a 4th film I am against...

I'll change the confusing title.

The next HSM after this one will be a Disney Channel film from what I understand, and three of the new protagonists are debuting in the Senior Year film.

I actually read somewhere that Zac Efron asked for 10 million dollars to be on the
4th High School Musical movie. If Zac agreed to be on the 4th one iam pretty sure
Vanessa, Ashley and the rest of the cast will join too   . I think it depends on how
successful the 3rd movie is.

Not true.  The original six will graduate, and a new class will take over.

No wonder GMTV considered it "good news", they're 25% owned by The Walt Disney Company!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMTV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMTV%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

I know, you've probably ripped all your Disney posters off the wall hearing that - DISNEY pay FIONA PHILLIPS' wage. :|

I read an overview of what the plot (a HSM film with a plot?!) could be for a fourth film and it actually sounded quite good. Basically, the whiny two leads (Zefron and Hudgens) would be forgotten in favour of the more fun Ashley Tisdale having a feud with one of the new characters who is introduced in the 3rd film. I can't remember where I read this now...

Now That actually sounds good... Bring in a British Transfer Student (aptly aged the same age as Efron... Therefore ME) and we have a cracking movie

Yeah I heard it would be a new cast. Efron and co want to pass the torch and move on to more serious acting careers and the new English girl in HSM3 will be moved up to a lead role in HSM4. Not sure how true that is but I think it seems very likely.

Disney have now confirmed details about the fourth instalment of the franchise. You can read about it on the BBC website (//http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7922825.stm).

I think it sounds interesting, they are defiantly trying to make it very different from the previous three.

Quote from: "BBC News"The Disney Channel said the film would introduce a new cast of characters and feature a love triangle set against a cross-town school rivalry.

Hmmm, can anyone say Romeo and Juliet ? Maybe they could change the ending were everyone poisons themselves, so there's no possibility of a 5th. But for some reason I can't see a Disney film ending with a mass teenage suicide scene

If they are bringing back the new characters from HSM3, hopefully Rocketman will have had some coolness beaten into him before the credits role. Or maybe that's the point of the film : East High Wildcat Rocketman falls for West Side Knights cheerleader and realises that being such a goofball isn't gonna get him the fair maiden (then everyone poisons themeselves !)

Romeo and Juliet! Yep I say it... Its not like Disney haven't already Done it Lion King 2 anyone?
All HSM movies are based on Already Infamous Musicals... HSM1: Grease... This Time round its West Side Story... Please Don't Give Us a Song like "Maria" I may just Die!

Can I be the one to beat the Cool into the 'Rocket Man' and then get with Miss Evans (as she never technically leaves East High she is said to say on well work on from College to help with the running of the Drama Dept)... We Need to get me in the movie NOW... Peoples get to work!

Speaking of which... I just had a delivery of HSM3's Score... So Ironic!

So it sounds like they're doing a "Skins" and dumping the main cast in favour of the younger class. Well, good luck to them. That's a very easy thing to screw up.

Hopefully they'll find some actors this time, whilst they're busy ripping off West Side Story.

Are we placing bets for a HSM5 on TV and then a HSM6 "only in cinemas"? :P

Oh  no. camp rock was nothing special. so camp rock 2 i'm not looking forward to it. however as a 13 (going on 14) year old boy you'd expect me to hate HSM. but hey secretly i like it. hey they can make a 4th film but without Zac efron, Ashley tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens and Corbin, it will flop and won't go any where. the cast are essential to the whole thing. Disney can not just make 3 films with a great cast. bring out a fourth with new cast and expect similar results!!!!!!

I get a weekly emails about the Auditions for Current Disney Channel Movies/TV Programmes...

This Weeks Email Included this little note:
QuoteHigh School Musical 4 pre-production has officially begun and the project will return to the Disney Channel in 2010 instead of playing in movie theaters, as was the case with High School Musical 3,...

Disney Channel 2010... Means No HSM for Summer or Christmas... Bit of a let down really.

Quote from: "Magicalmouse125"Disney can not just make 3 films with a great cast. bring out a fourth with new cast and expect similar results!!!!!!

Yip, and if you want proof I refer you to

Exhibit A: Grease 2. Same film as the first one, except everyone has Motorcycles instead of Cars. Songs not as good. One supporting cast-member returns for continuity. Poor shadow of a film.

Exhibit B: Teen Wolf Too. Same film as the first, except its about boxing instead of Basketball. One supporting cast member returns. Really poor shadow of a film.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the acting is of Shakespearian standard in HSM 1,2, or 3. But it was palatable. With a half-decent plot, a few new ideas and a good pre-film beating for Rocketman it might turn out all right. But ultimately, it will all come down to how good the songs are.
