Quote from: "Courtsy of Slashfilm.com"Disney has launched the movie event line-up for the D23 Expo fan convention. The event line-up includes exclusive sneak peeks at upcoming films like A Christmas Carol, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Old Dogs, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Tron: Legacy, The Princess and the Frog, Rapunzel, Toy Story 3 and more. Also making their premieres will be the new new Disney Digital 3D Toy Story and Toy Story 2 double feature, a new digital conversion of the original Tron, and a newly restored digital version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. PResentations also include a Muppets update, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, and the new ABC-TV holiday special, Prep and Landing

The Walt Disney Studios is jumping on the D23 Expo bandwagon with four days (September 10-13) of exciting programming that includes major overviews of upcoming films by Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook and Disney-Pixar Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter, plus a full schedule of events spotlighting new releases and newly restored digital versions of classic favorites.

Cook will present exclusive sneak peeks at such highly anticipated Disney features as "Disney's A Christmas Carol," Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," "Old Dogs" (with Robin Williams and John Travolta), "Prince of Persia" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (both from producer Jerry Bruckheimer), "Tron: Legacy," plus updates on many more exciting projects. Lasseter will discuss and show materials from such upcoming Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios' motion pictures as "The Princess and the Frog," "Rapunzel," "Toy Story 3," etc. Both presentations will be held at The Anaheim Convention Center in a 4000-seat arena.

All other film screenings and programs will take place in The Walt Disney Studios Theater (at the Anaheim Convention Center), a custom-built state-of-the-art venue with 3D capability, located within the Convention Center. All Disney Digital 3D™ presentations will be shown in RealD 3D, the world's most widely used 3D cinema technology. Among the U.S. premieres at the D23 Expo will be new Disney Digital 3D™ versions of "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2," the digital conversion of the original "Tron," and a newly restored digital version of the Walt Disney classic "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Expo guests will get an exclusive look at all things Muppets, as well as meet the filmmakers and see exclusive presentations for such highly anticipated new Disney features as "The Princess and the Frog," "Toy Story 3" (from Disney-Pixar), "Tron: Legacy," "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" (from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment), and the new ABC-TV holiday animated special, "Prep and Landing."

The Expo will also debut selected scenes from the upcoming Disney Digital 3D™ version of the Studio's 1991 modern classic, "Beauty and the Beast." Other highlights of the four-day event include a program devoted to the music from "The Lion King," a panel discussion and screening of "Sleeping Beauty," and the first U.S. screening of "Trail of the Panda" (Disney's second co-production with China). There will also be presentations on two recent documentaries – "the boys: the sherman brothers' story" and "Walt & El Grupo."

A special screening series, "Fifty and Fabulous," will unspool at 10:00 pm in the Studio Theater on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights spotlighting films that are celebrating their 50th anniversary – "Darby O'Gill and the Little People," "The Shaggy Dog," and "Sleeping Beauty."

Looks great. I wish I could be there. Maybe the second week of September is the best time to go to Disneyland California for a holiday each year :-)

I was reading through that PDF. I wonder how many fans/guests will obey Disney's photography rules:

"No flash photography, and no filming or other recording of any kind is permitted in the "Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives" exhibit. No photography, filming or other recording is permitted in the D23 Expo Studio Theater or Arena or in any other location where prohibited. By attending the D23 Expo, you agree not to take pictures or video or make sound recordings wherever posted or announced as prohibited."

^That's annoying. Lets hope someone goes against their rules.

Btw, I read somewhere earlier that Tim Burton and Robert Zemeckis are going to be at the expo for Dick Cook's presentation.

I just watched it, and was absolutely blown away. There's some amazing stuff in that video =D>

The whole pre-show clip, leading into the exhibitions is brilliant, almost like a higher budget Blue Sky Cellar. Perhaps if Disney wanted to open some more Blue Sky Cellars for other resorts in the future, they'll look like this... :)

WOW, the animatronics in that video are just amazing, Lightning McQueen, the dino and Wall.e (seen before though). It's amazing how much this technology has developed and how realistic they can now look.

Mystic Manor for HKDL looks great, the concept images are really exciting, the special effects look so much better than what I've seen in a park attraction before.

I'm hoping something for DLP is announced at this event though, something we didn't see coming (which I doubt).

I have to say, Mystic Manor is looking to be one of the best new Disney attractions for years. A unique ride sytem, immersive theming, an elaborate story, special effects... it's gonna be awesome. =D>

I'm amazed at how advanced the AAs are nowadays. Lightning McQueen is pretty much real there. Nice to see Lucky make an appearance too! One of my favourite memories of WDW.

The Lightning McQueen figure is great. But let's be clear, it's not an audio animatronic. It doesn't actually move. It's not robotic. All of the animation is done via video projection.

Fantasyland at WDW will nearly double in size by 2013. It'll be largest expansion in the history of MK.

The expansion looks excellent. I was just thinking, surely at least one or two of those new attractions/areas could be cloned into Fantasyland at Disneyland Paris?

How about Pixie Hollow on the empty grass hill, opposite the Mad Hatter's Tea Party? Shouldn't be too expensive and would provide a new area, with beautiful gardens and water features, to explore.

And, as discussed before, how about Voyage Of The Little Mermaid replacing the old Fantasy Festival Stage?

Yes it is a shame, and God knows DLP needs to make some announcements soon (at this rate, they'll announce Toy Story Plsylsnd after it's opened! )

But I think, taking everything into account, that this has got to be THE Disney event of the year. By far, it's one of Disney's most successful project for a long time. I really hope that they keep doing D23 expos in the future, because this year's has been exceptional =D>

Long Live D23

I'm glad it wasn't... Traditionally, fans over there care far less about Paris than we care about their resorts, so any major announcement would have just been shrugged off in the push to see Cars Land. Hopefully, if they work out another slate of new attractions, they'll announce them properly... and to their own fans! Remember that great event they did in September 2005 where fans were invited to a night at Videopolis, and the Imagineers shared LOADS of concept art and details from all the 2006-2008 attractions? Again please!!

Anyway, it's probably just the case that DLP are still in the process of confirming things and checking down the back of their sofa for spare change. They're working to their own schedule.

D23 has yet to acknowledge the existence of Disneyland Paris anywhere yet anyway (there was an article about Captain EO on the website which made it sound like it only played at DL and Epcot), so possibly Paris and Tokyo being separately run are just not in their remit.

Good point, I'd rather wait the folks at DLP to take their time and not rush.

Also I agree with you that I'd prefer announcements regarding DLP to come from Paris itself, and I'm pretty sure most of the Magic Forum community would too.

It looked like there is some really amazing stuff coming , but must admit  I am really disappointed they made absolutely no mention of DLP !!! We all know TSPL is coming they could of at least made a comment about "a future attraction , to be named soon "!
Even if they announced a new popcorn stand in Fantasyland it would have been something   I guess we all know where we are now in the order of things at the Walt Disney family of theme parks !!!

Disneyland Paris is most likely ignored, simply because it's not in America. A lot of Americans only seem interested in, or care about, what's in America. If it's outside of America, they couldn't care less. I really think that's what we're dealing with here.

Disneyland Paris certainly doesn't get the respect it deserves. Americans still don't seem to appreciate that Disneyland Park (in Paris) is more popular than Epcot, more popular than Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney's California Adventure, etc. It's a very popular, very important theme park. Again, they probably don't know those facts because the park isn't in America, so why should they know about it?

Very true , a great failing of Americans is that they are very introspective (Big word for me!) , except of course for Davewasbaloo who is a very well travelled American !!!! :D
I would have thought that a company could have mentioned all areas of its business , instead of ignoring them ! However it just seems they have lived up to a national stereotype !

I think you're being a bit unfair. If Americans don't care about what happens abroad, why would they have a huge model of the HKDL expansion there and make Mystic Point, etc, so much a part of the presentation?

The truth is that only California, Florida and Hong Kong are considered part of the core Walt Disney Company, aren't they? Let's ignore that Paris probably hasn't signed enough dotted lines to announce its next steps yet -- that leaves Tokyo, which already has several new attractions lined up, all completely missing from even a small mention. Even the spectacular Monsters Inc ride didn't appear. Is it not just that Paris and Tokyo aren't any of Disney's business to make announcements for?

However... I agree with what Alan says about Paris being overlooked. By both Disney and fans. There's a strange distance to DLP that a lot of fans from a certain country seem to have... if only they'd stumble on magicforum, they'd learn the turnstiles are ticking, the paths are free of litter and the Cast Members are near universally lovely.

To be controversial, a DLP fan could probably name any WDW ride. A WDW fan couldn't name our second gate.

It's a real shame that D23 has yet to introduce them to anything of our wonderful resort.

These Steve Jobs-wannabe speeches aren't Euro Disney SCA's style anyway. They'd much rather drop the mention of a new attraction into the last line of a black and white (or black, white and red, haha) financial report. The party animals.

Here's some great reviews of the Expo, well worth a read:

Maybe they mentioned HKDL in an effort to boost attendances there !!! But it was a Disney fan event and not the shareholders meeting ,so they should have made mention of ALL the parks IMO !!

Anthony, why do you think that HKDL is part of the core Walt Disney Company. I thought that TWDC only owns 43% of HKDL and that's only 4% more than Disney holds of Euro Disney SCA. Or am I wrong?
Title: Re: D23 Expo, 10th-13th September 2009

If you look on the Disney homepage , ALL the parks are listed under the travel section,so they should really use the ownership issues at a fan meeting ! If it says Disney I am sure people don't worry about what percentage of shares are owned by different parts of the Disney corporation !!!
