Character Castle Makeover & Park Decorations
Unveiled 1st April 2007.

For the 15th Anniversary Celebration (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=541).
Previous discussion about these 15th Anniversary decorations may be found in the general topic (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=541).

Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant becomes the home of 15 golden characters (or groups of characters) holding candles for the 15th Anniversary.

These are:
- Tinkerbell
- Dumbo & Timothy
- Pinocchio & Figaro
- Seven Dwarfs
- Chip & Dale
- Pluto
- Goofy
- Jiminy Cricket
- Buzz Lightyear
- Lumière
- Hewey, Dewey and Lewey
- Cheshire Cat
- Donald Duck
- Daisy Duck
- Mickey & Minnie Mouse

On Main Street, banners featuring Lumière decorate the reconfigured Christmas chandelier lampposts, illuminated by LEDs within the design.

This topic is for the Castle makeover and everything to do with the park's magical 15th Anniversary overlay!

Haaaaa, that's all so great :)

Is it already sure how the middle of Central Plaza will be decorated?

And...   well sorry I haven't understood it til now, but how will it exactly work with the lightning ceremony: Will "real" Characters climb onto the castle and then lighten a candle?! And how can you see this when it's not dark already?!

QuoteWill "real" Characters climb onto the castle and then lighten a candle

 :?

No, just think tree lightning ceremony during Christmas season.

Edit: Candleabration discussions should go here (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1639).  :D

I heard they were going to go up gradually over nights the week beforehand? As if they're slowly taking over... :o

Yeah, I should have mentioned that above actually.  We don't know when the other decorations will arrive (the princess chandeliers still have their full crowns, for example), but the castle characters should arrive from 17th March onwards.

And here's a photo which belongs here:

(//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/albums/trip_2_5_mar_07/DSC06793.thumb.jpg) (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/trip_2_5_mar_07/DSC06793)

One of the spires has been removed already in preparation.  They must be testing they can add the decorations quickly and safely when the countdown begins.

Lumière's base has also been installed, as you can see on that photo.

Oh yeah!  Well, the fact I didn't notice bodes well for this stuff blending into the castle nicely.

I hope they don't go drilling any massive holes like they did with WDW's castle...

Hehe, sorry, I haven't seen the Bougillumination-Topic when I wrote this ;)

It's a pity I don't know the Christmas Season and within the tree lightning ceremony :( Is it described anywhere?

 Buzz ruins the classicness.

Hope he doesn´t make his invisibility-artifice and lost the candle in this way.
The hole area will burn then!

That's what I thought, too! Is Buzz really that popular?! I think there are many more characters who'd have earned that honour instead of Buzz

Does anyone know who chose the 15 characters? The Imagineers? I think they should have made an inquiry of the fans or something...
Title:
Post by: Masamune on March 12, 2007, 09:47:58 PM
@ Riebi - :P Cheshire isn't Dopey, so he won't lose his candle.

@ Nala - :o I have nothing against Toy Story, but like I've heard a few others say; Pixar really does fit best in WDS. Buzz just looks weird among all those classic characters. Like you say, there's many other characters who would've been more deserving.

Yes, the first pics arrived. All I can say; this looks classy! I'm not easily convinced, but this blows me away! It has written "subtle", "quality" and "Disney" all over it at the same time. Great!  :)

Those are gorgeous, really really stunning!  And like you say Maarten, very understated too. :)  I love how they're gold/bronze, yet each has a tiny hint of colour to it. Just perfect.

Eat your heart out WDW and DLR, this is how it's done.

Has anyone noticed the actual turret? It has the light covering/mesh on it, very similar to what is used in the xmas ceremony! Something tells me this castle lighting will be more spectacular than was originally thought!! e.g. the whole castle will light up not just the candles!!!!! DLRP has truely been moving in the right direction these past few months!!
Title:
Post by: dreamseeker on March 13, 2007, 12:30:42 AM
I thought that the small gold carachters were bigger (like Magic Kingdom)... but now I think that it's beautiful!!!!! It's very different than the decoration of the magic kingdom castle for the 50th anniversary...

But I don't know why Pooh (it's my favourite character) was eliminated... :(

I can't wait to see more photos!

Hmm I don't think so personally, I'd be very surprised if they did that.  It'd spoil the effect of the candles if they went and turned on those thousands of lights.

PATMAGIC suggested to me before that they probably installed the Christmas lights with these so they can all use the same power supply.  Plus, it saves extra work come Christmas.

Lazy, and I do think it looks very ugly with that mesh, but I'll forgive them.

The "pixie dust" strobe affect will be used from the Christmas Light Set-up. But I think they are putting them up now to save having to remove the birthday figures to place the lights come October.

I'm liking the fact that donald and daisy are still in colour - the soft blue for donald's top and hat and the soft pink for daisy's top and bow.

How come Jimeny doesnt have any subtle colouring added?

I've been to WDW last year and saw the decorations there. This ones are more beautifull, although I miss some more pixie dust around all the castle and not only on top of the biggest tower.

The little pixie dust 'swirl' that circles the tower looks like it has LED's in them too - probably to create the effect of her casting magic down the tower and lighting the whole castle up! OOO pretty! :P
Title:

Aaaah, that's all so pretty!! :)

Except Buzz. I like him, but he really doesn't fit into the classic Disneyland Park :(!
Title:

About the pixie dust 'swirl' I don't know if that has LEDs also... Because I remember in WDW that the pixie dust there on Cinderella Castle looked like it had LEDs also but it didn't. So I don't  know if that are LEDs or not... Have to wait till the 1st to see  :P

Oh wow! This really brings it all together.  It just looks stunning.

For a castle makeover to get some positive comments is great on its own, but for there to so far be zero negative opinions about this makeover anywhere on the internet is just... wow.

The people who worked on this should be so proud of themselves.

Press Event - "Placemaking" and Mickey lost his flowers!

On dlrp.fr you can watch some pics of the preparations for the press events. Lights, cameras, action - but not at the studios. On the Town Square a grandstand is set and on the roofs of main street you can find some camera crates. The grandstand should be for the photographers of the international press.

(//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/petitpressevent15th04.jpg) (//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/pressevent15th04.jpg)(//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/petitpressevent15th07.jpg) (//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/pressevent15th07.jpg)(//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/petitpressevent15th13.jpg) (//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/pressevent15th13.jpg)

The crates of the roofs are for cameras and the stage direction. Lamps and Lights are also instaled on main street and the hub to shine all the events right.

(//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/petitpressevent15th09.jpg) (//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/pressevent15th09.jpg)(//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/petitpressevent15th11.jpg) (//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/pressevent15th11.jpg)(//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/petitpressevent15th10.jpg) (//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/15ans/pressevent/estrade/pressevent15th10.jpg)

But that are not all news. Mickey on the castle has lost his flowers. But what had he done with them? Some people think he has give them to minnie but there are no flowers in minnies hands. probably he has eaten them because he was soooo nervous for the big event!

Title:
Post by: Riebi on March 30, 2007, 12:09:34 PM
Haaa that´s the evidence for me! Heee must have eaten them. It was a cloudy night, mickey was nervous about all the things happen to the birthday events and then: The straw that breaks the camel's back!
The flowers tickle his face! "Eat them before the night is over" he was thinking. And now: No flowers more for minnie. He must now barter something like his harmonica for minnie´s birthday present. Like it was in one of the classic cartoons for xmas.

I thought we had made a big mistake but actually the press, the forbidden areas etc. didn't affect our day at all, we had no problems getting on the rides we wanted, we had our GMF breakfast so that gave us a head start we got fastpasses when we needed them and we got to see the superb opening ceremony, as well as the Alphabet (you bet), we had already decided to skip the main parade having watched it on Friday.  in short we had a fabulous day. :D

The opening ceremony has looked great! I saw a video with disploding balloons, confetti, the D I S N E Y L A N D-Letters, a marching band and of course Mickey and Andie MacDowell!

Looked like a lot of fun! How near was you be at the ceremony?

Back on topic... Mickey now holds a magic wand with a star on the end. :)

The castle looks so beautiful right now, the christmas lights on the spires didn't bother me one bit.  They seem to have cleaned it up a bit too, it just looks much fresher and more eye-catching.

The decorations on the park entrance look amazing too, like they've always been there.  The two new oval plaques on each edge of "Disneyland Park" fit so well that me and Patrick couldn't figure out if they'd always been there (with a new design).  But no, apparently they're new!

I think it's the entrance arch where the security checks are now which says "Parc Disneyland".

The DLH entrance has only ever said "Euro Disneyland", "Disneyland Paris" and "Disneyland Park" (hehe, "only").  Main Street station still says "Disneyland Paris".

There are some lovely (as always) photos there.

It's always great to see photos taken  from unusual angles - love the one with the silhouettes of the characters as it's getting dark.  And the one with the flowers in the foreground. And...well, you get the idea  :D

Hi,  We loved the 15th anniversary celebrations, especially the new parade at 4pm and the candelabration, it was so good we are going back on the 16th September as we loved it that much. We also had alot of friends go over to see it too. Although we go twice a year this year seemed special to us somehow,  we certainly recommend others to see the 15 year anniversary.

Do the other parks go all out on their themed decorations like Paris does? I know Paris is supposed to be the most beautiful of the parks, and the decorations for the 15th only add to it. But do the other parks, when they have their 'themed' year, go all out as well ?

they had the peter pan wendy and tink, what we now have in studio, or?

Wow, I love the decorations! I wish Peter, Wendy and Tink were flying over Sleeping Beauty Castle, and not in the studios. But hey ho, thats just my opinion  :)

I cant really see which other characters are attatched to the castle; is it like Paris, with the Chesire Cat, Dumbo etc ?

Post by: coruscantpt on September 28, 2007, 03:37:40 PM
Well they had many many characters from different movies. Here are some you can see over at the castle:

- White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat's head and tea cups from Alice in Wonderland;
- Simba, Pumba from Lion King;
- Sebastian and Flounder from the Little Mermaid;
- King Louie and Kaa from the Jungle Book;
- Victor, Hugo and Laverne from The Hunchback of Notre Dame;
- Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell from Peter Pan.

In the middle you had the huge mirror with pictures of all the castles from all the Disney parks around the world and the opening dates of all the 5 magic kingdoms

I have a question:

Are the characters on the spires of Sleeping Beauty's Castle staying there permanently or will they be taken down at the end of the 15th celebration?

Im almost certain they will go down after the celebration because they are holding birthday candles for DLRP :)

Just to clarify, they'll stay up after the 15th Anniversary, through the Celebrations Continues Big Time and will then be taken down.

So the "15" on the castle will really stay & they won't add a candle?

This sounds sooo silly, it's great they keep all the advantages of the celebration, but I still can't and surely will never understand why they celebrate a 15th anniversary two years long  #-o  ](*,)

Because, as i hope im right. The 15th anniversary has pulled in so much money and people that they might aswell take advantage of it and have it for another year.

Anyone no if this celebration has made more money and more people come to the resort than when space mountain opened ?

Sorry if this has been covered here, new to this forum and haven't read all 170 odd posts for the castle decorations!

I saw them in January and thought they were great, really tasteful. It's such a beautiful castle that you still want to be able to see it even when it's decorated!

Does anyone remember the fifth birthday (I think it was 5th) decorations with those big hats and stuff. I have to say I really disliked it,    you couldn't see the castle properly, it was just really degrading somehow! You always want to take lots of photos of the castle, but I didn't take many that visit!

Oh yes, definitely! Some 2 million more visitors, or thereabouts. (Although they have two parks, etc. now)

I can understand why a lot of people here might not like continuing the celebration, but a lot of the "public" might have missed last year and, given this final chance, book a trip to DLRP to catch the celebrations. Other people might return because they enjoyed it so much. Most people only visit once a year, if that!

I think it'd be weird to end the anniversary just as Stitch and the major attraction we've waited 6 years for finally open anyway. :)

Can anyone actually remember what Main Street looks like without those giant white poles for the banners/chandeliers?

I must say: I like both. I like the way of the main street without decorations but I also like the 15. deco very much. And cause it will be the original main street after the party (or maybe they party till 20.  :? ) it´s ok to see the 15. birthday style main street a bit longer!

I think they could make quite a lot of money by auctioning off some of the decorations, they could give the money to charity if they thought it would look better.

I would sure like to bu something, my 3rd daughter was born in Feb 1992, she likes to think of herself as the same age (ish) as DLRP!

I was wondering has anyone else noticed the fading of the castle characters, when i was there in july, they were very bright gold, as well as the crown design stands on top of the turrets, now they seem to be more silver when i visited in December, like washed out or bleached to a silvery gold

Well, I think it's okay to show a cut-out of the picture ;) Have to say that this big storm was while he was there:

And Buzz is also missing. And the spire down to the balcony. Strange the missing characters. Are you sure this is from this year? It looks like the pictures from last year when they were placing the characters in March. The missing ones were the last to be up in the castle.
How did they made the candleabration without them??

In july the castle figurines looked like this:

They should really polish them up or something. It's hard to make out that there's even a hint of color on them.

looks ok, but would also been great if the castle would have been without decorations this year. I mean it's already a long time decorated, a break would have been a good idea imo. But the decoration isn't bad of course, think it fits good with the occasion.
