Title: What more would you like as a member of the Shareholders Club?
Post by: A&S&O on August 19, 2015, 11:05:23 AM
We're just back from 10 days at the park. While we were there we discovered that our Shareholders cards no longer gave out fastpasses.

What simple (free or cheap to implement!) extras would you like to get as members of the Shareholders Club? There used to be suggestion cards in Salon Mickey, but we couldn't see any this time.

Maybe someone at DLP will read this list and think "Hmm, what a good idea".

We'll start with -

Re-implement the additional fastpass option for Shareholders cards.

Have a shareholder club pin (might make DLP some money!) - either a straightforward "Member" pin, or "Member since xxxx" or "x year Membership".

Turn down the temperature on the drinks machine in Salon Mickey! I think the Imagineers have succeeded in getting water above 100 degrees!

Been a shareholder for almost 8 years and didn't know that you could get extra fastpasses, oops! :-[ missed that one. Iwould love to have a members pin or a range of merc that you could buy...i think they have pins and lanyards in the states but not sure if they ever did that in dp. Maybe now they have changed the share requirements it would be possible.

Have they actually changed the requirements now? I thought new memberships were suspended while they thought about the whole membership / benefits thing.

It is possible to get water above 100 degrees without boiling it, but I doubt the drinks machine is designed to actually pressurize the vessel it uses to hold the water. ;)

As a real world example, Geysers generally have water that sits at around 180 degrees C, but it flashes to steam the instant it erupts and the pressure vanishes. :)

I never knew there were perks for being a shareholder at DLP, then again, I don't have any shares. :)

No you are correct, I meant raising the shareholding to 100. I havent heard whether they are accepting new members yet and if the requirements to join will be different. I suppose they would have to be considering their drop in individual value.
Still worth it for the hot chocolate IMO!

That's probably why the geysers at DLP don't work, they're being re-routed to the drinks machine in Salon Mickey.

If that were true, then that machine would make some of the best Espresso on the planet. ;D

Not yet. Had an email convo with them today and after pushing it out several times since January of this year. They now told me to contact them end of the year to see whether they are again accepting new members.

Apparently they are still deciding whether the minimum amount of shares has to go up and whether they have to change any other conditions.

At DLR they have AP and DVC only pins which makes it a bit more exclusive. Those pints were also LE which made them even more wanted. I have a few of those and although they are also more expensive, they are worth it.

You could get extra fast passes????  :o All these years, and I never knew that!! How did that work?

What I'd really like would be longer opening hours for the Salon Mickey, we hardly ever go because when it's open we're either travelling to the park, or enjoying the morning to do lots of rides before it gets busy. If we could go for a coffee and a rest after lunch for example, or later in the afternoon, it would be really lovely.

I think I might know who removed the suggestions box!! It was possibly a CM named Jenny who received a number of complaints about her abrupt manner back in March! Various Salon Mickey guests of differing nationalities were driven to complain about her unnecessarily rude communication skills.  If I was her I would probably have hidden the suggestion box!

Just saying...!

I had cause to complain about the way she spoke to us last November. Very rude unnecessarily.

Can't believe have been missing out on fastpasses all this time!  :'(

A couple of years ago they issued a limited number of VIP fastpasses which were valid for 1 (chosen) day and up to 5 people which we were lucky enough to receive. I think the option to have one of these once a year would fab. Also if they ever thought of expanding, would be rather nice to have a 'Salon Mickey' over at the Studios too.

I think they were going to "review" things "in January".

I don't know how long the review will take, or how long it will take them to announce and implement any changes.

When did you get that? Can you still get it?

I'd like the opportunity to buy a VIP fastpass. I know asking for it to be free would be a bit far fetched but as the only way to get one is stay in a premium room. I think it would be cool if we could get to Disney and have the option to pay a bit for one.

Personally, I don't like the idea of being able to buy your way to the front of line (like you can in Universal Studios).

I cant quiet remember. I am a member since 1999 and it may have come with my renewal card one year.

I got mine a few years ago, I simply asked them for one explaining that I had never received it. They quickly mailed it to me.

I don't know if they still have it, but you can always ask. I sent them a mail via the website.

I emailed the shareholders club about the pin and received the following -

We have well received your request to receive a Shareholders Club exclusive pin. However, we inform you that this pin was a limited edition and, up to this day, all the pins that we had have been distributed. As a new release of this pin is not being considered, we regret that we are then unable to fulfill your request.

Do people think that if they get enough requests ( eurodisney@clubactionnaires.com ) that they will produce new pins?

To be honest, the main thing I'd like right now is for the requisite number of shares to not go up to the rumoured 1000.  To say it used to be 5, then 20, then 100...

I've always had 100 but buying an additional 900 would be unlikely to happen, so my wish list doesn't currently extend any further than this!

Our February trip is likely to be our last involving Salon Mickey.  Bad times...

I feel like they are trying to drive out individuals that have shares and make it more corporate - 1000 is ridiculous.

Out of interest - what have peoples returns / dividends been? I've never been in the position to buy shares until now (I'm 22) so it would be good to know if people have / are likely to make a profit?

No returns or dividends on the DLP shares.... At least none since I've been a shareholder  ;) But you end up making your money back with the various discounts in the parks (shops and restaurants). Or you used to. Will need to wait and see what the new membership criteria are!

As never2old has said, no dividends as such - they use the Starbucks accounting method - any "profit" goes straight to TWDC to pay licensing fees.

Our rationale for joining was, we buy shares for £x, reap the benefits of being a club member, then if needs be we sell our shares for £x - no profit, no loss, no dividends, just benefit from discounts and muffins.

The reason that the number of shares needed to be a member has gone up is because the share price went down and because £1 was worth more ten years ago than it is now, consequently as prices have gone up, you save more money in discounts (and the cost of muffins has gone up!).
(I'm guessing here but) you used to have to hold 20 shares at around £8 = £160, then the shares went down to around £3, so they upped the number to 100 = £300. People are expecting / guessing the required holding to go up to 1000, with the share price at around £1.

When we first bought shares, we saved the entire cost of the shares by buying two annual passes.

Oh that's kind of annoying that you don't get any return but if it's only £1000 it doesn't seem too bad (in the grand scheme of life - it's a lot in comparison to years ago). Waiting to see what happens before my decision is made on where and who to buy shares with.

£1000 = 250 muffins.

Yeah thats why I'm waiting til the end of their financial year and possibly til 2018. Seems a tad unsafe at the moment - interesting to know though. Just wish I was 10 years older so could have got in for cheaper!

I would have loved to have got shares early on (like when DLP was a big deal and you got a pin and better benefits), but I was always too young and my mother although being a business owner is not interested in share buying so never bothered getting me any... even though she got me a paving flag outside the DLH!

I love my paving flag but shares in DLP would be preferable. God help my future children ;D

We bought our son some shares a couple of years ago (not entirely straightforward!), so he's been a member of the shareholders club since he was 8!

We also have a "stone" in Fantasia Gardens, but rather distressingly, there is a recent picture that appears to show them all dug up. We have just emailed DLP to ask them about it.

Yeah my mum wouldn't know where to start buying shares and neither would I before I did public company law as part of my law degree!

I was so tempted to remove mine last time I was there but I was told I could have it back so they better send me it! To be honest I always tripped up over the bloody things so I hope they tarmac it. It was lovely but badly maintained and unsafe (or at least if you're as clumsy as I am).

Not sure if we covered this but the deal for current shareholders is if you renew with 60 days of your current expiry date you get a 5 year renewal which in my case works out pretty well as I only just renewed in February so I basically have 7 years left on my shareholders membership.

And the one thing I really would like would be free parking like with an annual pass dream
Title: Re: What more would you like as a member of the Shareholders Club?

......and, as I understand it, under the current (new) conditions, provided you apply within 60 days before or after expiry, you will be able to renew for a further 5 years etc. etc.  :D

I also still have a morbid curiosity about the 'special' fastpasses that were available to club members as mentioned previously. I never knew anything about them  :'(  but would be interested to know what I missed out on. Can anyone shed any light?

I agree, a fastpass type perk would be fab.
