Exactly Pussinboots. That is why we always spend a fortune in Disneyland, but very little at WDW and DLP. At least WDW has park and resort hotel specific merchandise too (but not so much).

But I could never see DLP stocking my hand painted goofy train watch that is 18 carrot gold - $500 (I got it for $200), or my Shag Retro Haunted Mansion Shirt, or my DL 50th Anniversary 1950's style leather jacket, or many of the other cool things I have bought at DL.

LAst really cool stuff I bought at DLP was the beginning of the 15th Anniversary (we have made 6 trips since then). The last time we dropped serious money was about 8 years ago when we bought the Auberge de Cindrillon tea set. We were going to buy the plates and bowls on our next trip, sadly they stopped carrying this cool individual stuff.

DLP had some awesome shopping experiences in it's first 5 years, ok in the next five, and pretty poor from then on. A pretty building will not make up for a woefully inadequate retail experience.I would like to be optimistic like Smurfy, but sadly this just seems like a waste of money. I hope and pray I will be proven wrong, but so far, not much has been in the last 5 years.

Unfortunately, if it were just you and three other forum members buying those gold watches, Euro Disney wouldn't make much of a profit. So who can blame them, really.

It would be nice if there were at least some exclusive merchandise, though. If only a savvy individual at merchandising would experiment a little, see if it's possible to put out a line of something that is both profitable and worthwhile. See if there isn't a small yuppie market to tap into, or a fan market. Surely not every Disneyland Paris guest is a tasteless, one-size-fits-all-wearing sucker for kitschy doo-dads.

the more i read davewasbaloos' experiences of DL the more I am determined to go. Looks like end of next year for me or the first half of 2011 is going to be the time. I really hope the store has some quality merchandise, and seeing as im ever the optimist im sure it will

I haven't been to DLRP recently, so I don't know what the merchandise is at the moment. But the merchandise of DLRP in 2008 was so much better than the merchandise in WDW in 2008. When you see WDW's merchandise you are very happy with DLRP's. Nevertheless I have same opinion like you and I really hope that the merchandise will be better again, especially the kitchen articles.

I have never been to DL Anaheim so I don't know the merchandise there.

Well given that spending is down, I do think they need to shake the merchandise up a bit. I mean 70% of the stuff you can buy at supermarkets or on-line for a fraction of the price. Yet our trip in May, there were only 5 pins based on attractions. All the rest were the characters out your ears. Well as a pin collector of 10 years and 400+ pins from around the globe. I am not inclined to put my hands in my pocket to buy generic character pins (last ones bought were WallE a couple of years ago).

I wish the stores had more non Disney merchandise as well ! When the park opened I remember a lot of specialist items that I had only seen in the US .Frontierland used to have some amazing stuff that was difficult to get even in America. :(

I have to say there isnt much diversity between merchandise, and I just wish there was some more stuff like this on sale today;

//http://www.eurosouvenirland.com/memorabilia/item/1992-frontierland-wanted-souvenir-licence-plate/

Hopefull World of Disney will address that problem [-o<

PS: I can't wait for more of the sections and memorabilia on Euro Souvenirland :)

exactly. It used to be that shopping was an attraction in their own right, and they were not worried about making quite as big a profit margin (block purchasing is cheaper - this was the motivation behind the Disney Parks merchandise). Personally I almost always prefer quality.

(In case you haven't noticed, I've been pretty anti Disney lately...)

The merchandise at DLRP is awful, there is just nothing special anymore.
Its all the same regardless of which store you go into, it really needs to change. I'd like to see it change with the 2010 event, but I don't see that happening.

Some of the 15th stuff was really nice, especially the models of the parade.

I dunno how I feel about the World of Disney store, its a good idea, I just doubt the quality of merchandise.

ive picked up some really nice crockery and kitchenwares recently, but apart from that can we get back on topic  [-o< what do people reckon will happen to the Disney store side of the village, with the potential opening of the World of Disney store. More restaurants, different types of stores, what kind of things do downtown disney have that would be great in the village. What things really work that would transfer to Paris?????????

As davewasbaloo has stated about the loss of entertainment stages in Disney Village, why dont they demolish the disney store ( just that part, as if im right it only links on the the other buildings by a glass roof ?)

And as we are losing a store but also gaining a new one, why not go for dining and entertainment. And what better place than ...

HOUSE OF BLUES

I think it would be an amazing addition to the studios  :)

Mind you this is imagineering.

New concept arts for World of Disney have popped up!

Source: G-Force at Disney Central Plaza

I think it will be a great addition to Disney Village together with Earl of Sandwich. Compared to earlier renderings, it seems the Parisian warehouse kind of style has been altered to an art deco look to fit in with the exsisting IMAX and Frontlot buildings, while keeping the domes. By the way, look at the Tinkerbell statue on top of the earth-dome. Great touch, although a Mickey figure similar to the one on top of Crossroads of the World at DHS would have been nice fit aswell, considering Tinkerbell is feautured at the spires of the Disneyland Hotel, Sorcerers Apprentice Hat at Toon Studio and Sleeping Beauty Castle aswell.

But like I said, a great design if you ask me. Bring it on!

The concept art looks really cool. Can't wait when it turns into reality. Like Maarten already said the design has changed a little bit, but I like the new one better. I would also prefer a Mickey statue on top than Tinkerbell.

Very impressed with the concept, I also like the art-deco design together with the domes. Let's hope that we hear of some progress soon.

Looks great. Now when do they start building it? :-)
