From ED92:

"Chaparral Theater expected to close after the Christmas season for rebuilding of up to 18 months to remove the center pillars."

Disappointing to have it out of action for so long but those pillars really are a pain in the backside and I guess it's rather major structural work to remove them. It'll certainly improve guest experience once it's reopened.

I guess its another case of taking short term hurt to make the park better in the long term. Timing is appalling unless the Marvel show in Cinemagique is ready to go by then.

To be honest the pillars are annoying, but for most spectators it wont be an issue. Shame that things like the Forest of Enchantment wont be on for that time.

I know a lot of people who are really annoyed by them (and they're a pain in the butt if you're a photographer!) but yeah that's exactly how I read it - short hit for long gain.

I think they cause issues with the show blocking too as the performers have to work around them. It'll be a lot easier to do shows there once they're gone.

If it closes after Christmas then the new Marvel show opens in time for summer season then that's fine - Chaparral theatre normally sits unused until then anyway.

Timing is really odd. Chapparel was massively under utilised for years and now it's being used they're refurbishing it.

I think it does show they're committed to its future and not - as some people kept saying - thinking of getting rid of it for another ride. It does need updating and I'm glad to see they're obviously positive about the future of shows at DLP.

18 months? They could just knock it down and build a whole new theater like the one Mickey and the Magician plays in!

Tbf I suspect those pillars are there for a very good reason and they have to safely remove them and then insert another way of keeping the building up, that isn't a short job.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did work on the stage, sound and lighting system as well whilst it's closed, modernise everything and future proof it a bit.

Would be great if they did some real thinking about what they want to do with it. Some awesome theatre areas in Orlando particularly the area for the Nemo Musical in WDW

Allegedly they're planning a Lion King show for when the new live action film comes out.
