We have been told that at the Disneyland Hotel you have to take your breakfast at alloted times and that you have no choice in the decision on what those times are.  Does anyone know if this is true?  Does it only apply at peak times like school holidays, Easter & Christmas?  We will be going there at the end of April and having to wait for a breakfast slot that is after the extra magic hours start time would seriously impact our plan for the days we are there.

no, there are no timeslots at the Disneyland hotel. Even at the onsite hotels with timeslots you don't have to stick rigidly to them, so don't worry.

Elaine's right, there are no time slots at the DLH. Fortunately my family are all early risers, so we tended to get there for 7.45-8.00am, but by the time we had finished (say an hour later) there was quite a queue forming.

excellent news.  thanks for the info.  Sounds like an early breakfast is best to avoid the queues and maximise the early magic hours.  Can't wait.

Or a late breakfast after magic hours. When we stay in DLH in october we are planning on being in park 8-10am and then going back to hotel for breakfast from 10 till 11 - will work up an appetite this way too! :)

Good idea amanda08 with the late breakfast after early morning park visit - do you know the serving hours for breakfasts in the on site hotels - we are staying at The New York in May.
